A lot of us have been voicing our opinion, views to Ṣeun for quite some years now.. about the need for change but we haven't heard back. Ṣeun hasn't really addressed us on the reasons holding him back.

Nairaland has been around for over a decade now. No real restructuring. Same emoji, same old design, insufficient functions and it sucks on a lot of level. To open this website in public na wahala

The reason we still hang on to Nairaland is because of the it's depth of content, the community, the trolls, the excitement and lalasticlala.

I don't know why Ṣeun hasn't taken Nairaland to the next level but I would like to ask if Ṣeun is willing to sell Nairaland.

We (a team) could buy it out in a nice deal and we'll take it to the Next level ourselves. #My humble opinion.

What does it take to buy your own domain and code your own python.

Leave the young man alone to manage his estate of negative vybes.

Have been coming across Forums here and there. Coding up one isn't a problem. But the existing user base and depth of content on nairaland that matches our struggle as Nigerians is why Nairaland still wins.

We just need an upgrade.

can someone guess what nairaland would probably worth now, if expose to an open market?

If the forum is generating traffic as it is, what makes you think anyone cares about the upgrade. If you can do something better, then start from the scratch. Your money should be able to buy you some litres of patience in the black market.

No offense.

None taken.
Starting from scratch is an option. Buying an existing platform and build on it is an option. Both are viable but varying level of difficulties.

What makes you think any one cares about upgrade? Are you really on this platform¿. Someone on Family and Romance section must have even raised the issue before...

I am too old to be on Ladies Section of the Internet. Men should be in Politics and Business Section of the Internet and allow women to be on Romance and Family Section.

Life is not ending soon, so build your forum independent of nairaland and give people a choice. Nairaland is not for sale, it is designed for plasma harvesting by energy vampires. grin

The only forum you can build that will give Seun a run for his money is a blockchain based site where users earn tradable coins for posting, commenting, liking and sharing on the platform.

Although there are some problems to be envisaged, but you will definitely draw out almost half of the population. Checkout weku.io or smoke.io and see what I mean.

Like I said, a blockchain site with a great design will draw out a lot of bloggers from nairaland as most of them are looking for both money and traffic to their websites. It would be an additional source of income for them.

Once the bloggers have moved, the rest of the community would have no other option than to move as well.

I was building such a platform once, I think I still have the files on my laptop but I stopped along the way after I got a job.

This is a solid idea.
Let me check those sites.
I will port if I see potential in them.

[UPDATE]
Another benefit of getting paid for commenting is the elimination of trolls.
Almost all members will choose to put their best foot forward when concerning comments.
The trolls will have to push out witty comments or disappear in a swarm of well thought opinions and write ups.

Personally I don't really like the idea of paying or getting paid to read news, like or comments.. I believe at the end of the day the comment section is going to look doctored and the likes aren't true.

I'm not against Content creators owning and getting paid for their works by the way. That's why I find the Medium.com way of rewarding creators more appealing.

I don't buy the idea of Forums rewarding readers for likes, commenting etc. I believe it reduce the intangibility of the Creators work.

You are right but it is also a way of giving back for those touching comments and contributions. Even Facebook had it in mind and will soon begin it...

I think the way the world is wired now is such that quick gratifications pays.. Just as everyone looks forward to having likes and followers.

Have you heard of China's Social Credit System? That gives instant points and rewards to citizens for good social behaviour. Though it is under debate as Amnesty International says it is against Human Rights and therefore has its drawbacks.

Maybe seun Has forgotten how to write codes due to the pounds he gets in NL. It does happen at times when you already got money that writing codez just weak u. What else are we struggling for, when the cash flows?
But selling NL is the biggest joke of the century. Unless he got a backup plan which i dont believe he has, he aint selling sh.i.t. Dude worked hard for the site and its his office, his portfolio, his future.
So get that thing atta ur head. No sane guy will.

What of the football bet spammers?
Don’t forget the hawkers always advertising their goods and services.
Finally there is the MTN scammer who has a room and parlour in Nairaland.
I believe that ‘guy’ is actually sp4mware the admin can’t find a solution to.

The moderator of this section or spambot thingy should post this repository in threads related to this topic before locking it

Reddit has something called Reddit Gold.
I don’t know what it does but I see it used as a form of payment for well composed thoughtful comments.
Every rational human being knows people spend time and brainpower to come up with opinions.
It is also common sense to find ways no matter how little to encourage them.
Even with Reddit Gold in place the comments I see on the forum don’t look ‘doctored’ in any way.
