Alagbaka, Akure.

A ghost in his mid-twenties walked in a way not to attract any questioning attention on the sunlit street of Alagbaka, Akure. Even if anyone had by chance seen him, common sense would have told such an individual that he was one of the frustrated products of our broken society.

The ghost strode past the fountain at the Alagbaka Round about, took a glance at the dancing fountain and headed north. He was mumbling some words to himself, he believed those words will purify him for the task ahead. He smiled within as his destination came in view. The building was just few meters away.

In the just renovated building, inside a well secured room, around a brown polished oval table were the governorship aspirant who doubled as the incumbent governor, the state party chairmen of Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun and Lagos. They spoke in a voice that was barely above a whisper, maybe they feared that the room might have been bugged by the major opposition party, All United Party (AUP).

The meeting was supposed to be a top-secret, but none of the men knew the Judas within had sold the valuable information to the enemy without, and that the enemy was close and was just few minutes away from striking.

The heat of the blazing mid-day sun made the ghost uncomfortable in his oversized three-piece suit but he refused to be distracted by the temporary discomfort. The success of his mission was what mattered most. It was a great privilege to be chosen to fight the Holy War.

Apart from being handsomely paid, he anticipated a greater consolation which awaited him in heaven; seven virgins and an induction into Allah’s Hall of Fame. Jihad is a word used by Islamic fundamentalist to perpetrate evil in the name of God. Ironically, in the Holy Quran, the word Jihad has nothing to do with war. Its primary meaning is to extort oneself; to live a moral life.

The ghost felt his heartbeat quicken as he approached his destination. He had been brainwashed to believe he was on a holy assignment. No mistake must be made. The men in the building were infidels, corrupt men, and a cancer to the society. Allah is angry with them. They must be eliminated.

As the ghost edged closer, against the norm, one of the men stood up clutching his stomach, his demeanor was like that of a man in a biting pain. He groaned as he said ‘’Your Excellency, may I be permitted to use the rest room please?’’ the governor nodded in approval.

If no one stopped this ghost, the tall building radiating architectural excellence would be demolished, covered in Inky darkness. Those men would be torn to shreds like pieces of paper. The building was none other than the secretariat of the People’s Political Party.

LAST ASSIGNMENT…2
Aguiyi Ironsi Street, Abuja.

The Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) is headed by a board of nine commissioners. It was founded in November 1992. The NCC is charged with the responsibility of regulating the supply of telecommunication services within the country.

With the aid of the China Exim Bank, the Nigerian government acquired the funding to launch her first communication satellite (NIGCOMSAT-1) on May 13, 2007. The satellite was deorbited on November, 10 2008 due to power failure, but was re-launched 10 months later.

This satellite was instrumental in national security and intelligence operations such as in phone calls interception, IMSI number catches and signal direction finding. It had been particularly useful in acquiring intelligence that prevented a terrorist bomb attack once in the past.

Three weeks before the ghost appeared at Alagbaka, the NCC intercepted a call believed to have originated from Sambisa Forest, Borno State. ‘’Take those ripe Tomatoes to PPP secretariat. Be careful not to let it burst before you get inside.’’ The call was believed to be received by someone around Oba Adesida road. Akure.

The message would have passed for normal if the word “Tomatoes” was not mentioned. Terrorists often use it to mean bomb.

The NCC analysts tried tracing the call recipient via the SIM card but only came up with the names of two Biafran soldiers that died during the civil war. The registered fingerprints too were traced to two ladies that were believe not to have survived the June 3, 2012 Dana plane crash. All dead ends.

After the suspicious call was made, both caller and receiver SIM cards were destroyed, and the phones wiped clean of any fingerprint and dumped in an incinerator. After hours of deliberations and further analysis, NCC concluded it must have been a bomb threat on the Ondo state PPP secretariat. The big question then was, “when will the attack take place?”

One of the NCC commissioners picked a secure phone in his office and dialed the director of the one body he believe could stop any bomb threat, The Department of State Service (DSS).

Last Assignment ...3

The crisis within the Ondo state PPP was an outflow of the crisis at the national level of the party. At the last National convention of the party, election of new executives was supposed to have been conducted. It was however marred by gross misconduct and led to the party’s splitting into three factions. The leadership of the party tried but was unable to contain the problem. As a result, like a house divided against itself, the party began to self- destruct.

Of the three factions, two flowed to Ondo state. Each conducted its own gubernatorial primary, thus producing two governorship candidates from the same party. It was just the beginning of the drama yet to unfold.

Oluwole Yusuf was the governorship candidate for the first faction, while Alexandra Ajasin was the candidate for the second faction.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recognized the election that produced Oluwole Yusuf, but Alexandra had the powers-that-be behind him. The case was taken to High court where the Justice pronounced Alexandra the winner of the election. However, three weeks to the gubernatorial elections in the state, the Supreme Court overruled the high court’s ruling. The candidacy went back to whom it belonged.

On the day the final verdict was given. Alexandra composed himself, he was burning with bile didn’t let it show. He often prided himself as a man that could remain calm under great pressure. He went over to Oluwole and openly congratulated him. This was politics; no permanent friend or enemy was the rule of the game.

He decided to switch the battle mode from external to internal. He doubted if the man he cordially greeted would be alive to see the gubernatorial election.

LAST ASSIGNMENT 4

Aso drive, Maitama. Abuja.

The Department of State Service (DSS) is one of the security outfits that arose from the ashes of the National Security Organisation (NSO). It was founded on 5th June,1986. The DSS is responsible for domestic intelligence.

Its headquarters was located at 15, Awolowo Road, Ikoyi before General Sani Abacha moved it to Aso Drive Maitama, Abuja. The headquarters complex is known as ‘’Yellow House.’’ It was rumoured that the Director General (DG) of the DSS earns a whopping 1.36 million naira monthly.

Yellow House looks inviting, but not everyone knows that there are hidden cameras at the front of the building. They allow specially trained analyst to run background check on people entering the building. At strategic locations around the building, are directional microphones that pick conversations.

Those tinted glasses in front of the DSS headquarters are bulletproofs and are designed to neutralize listening devices. At the top floor, east of the building is a small soundproof room. It has no window and it contains many sophisticated electrical devices. The room is swept to eliminate bugs before any meeting because matters of national security are discussed there.
There exist various basements at the DSS headquarters. One of the basements contain the best technical equipments in this side of the world, calls made by Nigerians are monitored and intercepted in that room. There are pressure pads in the office of the Director General, these help secure the movement in his office. There is a secure telephone in the DG’s office that leads only to the president’s office, also the DG travels in armour-plated cars.

In the intelligence world, it is a known fact that, the American CIA takes Mossad - Israeli Intelligence agency, to bed regularly. However, Israel sometimes cheat on America by laying with Nigeria. Most, if not all of the weapons used by the DSS are supplied by Israel. In fact, rumour has it that, the Late Gen. Sanni Abacha used Mossad agents as his personal protection.

One of the outstanding successes of the DSS was the interception of a large consignment of arms and ammunition smuggled in from Iran at the Apapa port in October 2010. Despite several successes, the DSS was blamed for failing to prevent the bombing of the United Nation's House in August 26, 2011, because it had prior intelligence before the incidence.. That negligence led to the death of an assistant director of the agency in a car bomb.

On receiving the tip-off from the NCC commissioner, the DG called his Fifth Directorate - the one responsible for security and protection. The fifth directorate had little worries, he knew the right person for the job.

LAST ASSIGNMENT….5

Aso drive, Maitama. Abuja

Agent Precious Adeola was a fair lady with delicate feminine beauty. She was in her mid-twenties, with a trim, athletic figure. She had an intelligent oriental face, and her voice was smooth and soft like a violin’s. She often wore an impressive afro, which was what possibly earned her the moniker “Enchantress.”

Agent Adeola studied Terrorism and Counter Terrorism at the Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service. On returning to Nigeria, with the help of the Minister of Defense, who was a close friend of her father, she got a job at the DSS.

Precious had proven to her Superiors, time and again, that she merited her job position. She had successfully led the team that uncovered the plot of the Boko Haram members to bomb the National Assembly on 15th, April 2014. She was also credited with arresting a bomb threat in Sokoto, in collaboration with the local police squad.

Apart from her work, astrology was something she deeply loved. And this had cost her her relationship with her boyfriend Adeyemi Olaniregun. He believed astrology was a dark science and was unwilling to continue with a lover of the devil’s game.

She spent a fortune in acquiring obscure books like The “Zohar” and the “Kybalion,” and she loved Cladius Ptolemy’s Tetrabiblos. She knew the Zodiac signs off hand to the last detail, and did not hesitate to declare she was a Capricorn.

She was also well versed in natal astrology (the predicting of a person's future by studying his birth chart), in Physiognomy (fortune telling by examining features of the face) and was good with tarot cards and Ouija boards. When asked why she was so inclined, her response was, ‘’well, they help me do my job better.’’

Agent Precious was the fifth Directorate’s master piece for handling bomb threats. She was promptly summoned and debriefed, and in less than 24 hours she came up with a plan to stop the bomb.

The DSS boss studied her plan for a while and looked up. "Precious, you are the best. I love this. You have my approval.’’ On receiving marching orders, she assembled her gear and left for Akure 6:00 AM the following day.

LAST ASSIGNMENT………6
Alagbaka, Akure.

Most people believe Boko Haram started out in 2002, but that is not necessarily so. Boko Haram emerged from the Saudi-Iran split. After the Iranian revolution in ‘79, many Nigerian Muslims were influenced by what happened in Iran.

At that time, to offset Iran’s influence in Nigeria, Saudi Arabia began to support Salafist institutions in Nigeria. Among these institutions, many sects began to emerge which deviated from the traditional main stream Salafism. One of those sects became Boko Haram.

Appearance could be very deceptive. The well-dressed ghost, once out of his formal suit, was actually a monster. His hands were buried in his black pants. His oversized suit was saddled with no less than forty pounds of high explosives; nails, ball bearings and shrapnel. His lips moved involuntarily as he said his final prayers. His eyes had a glassy, thousand-yard stare and he was unnaturally pale.

In one of the hands buried in his pockets was the detonator of the bomb. He had been ordered to end the lives of those corrupt men at a precise moment. That was part of the training he received at one of the Al Qaeda training facilities in Sudan.
He checked his wristwatch. It was 13:50, ten minutes to the detonation time...

LAST ASSIGNMENT…………7
Alagbaka, Akure.

It was 2:00 am. Normal men were expected to be sleeping, but he wasn’t asleep. His heart was heavy as a stone. Knowing what it meant, he walked out of Akindeko Hostel, Block B, Room 2, and went to the Car Park to unleash the burden. He knew within himself that he was to pray for the election that was coming up. He prayed for 2 hours until he felt an ease inside him. He had done his job.

*************
When she got to Akure, Agent Precious went to the DSS safe house, located in a classified location at GRA. The safe house was codenamed Guntal Boulevard, fortified with heavy armor-plated doors and bulletproof lexan windows. It was designed to withstand any external bomb blast with minimal effect on the inhabitants. All DSS safe houses were built by the Israeli Intelligence Agency – Mossad.

Secret agents are masters at manipulation, especially their physical appearance. Precious wanted to see where the PPP’s Headquaters was located and she wanted to do that with the demeanor of an undergraduate. She took her bath and came under the transformative power of make-up.

She wore a flowery formfitting knee length dress with a strappy high heel sandals. Her tote bag held a loaded 45 caliber Taurus 24/7 OSS pistol with a sound suppressor. Her left hand cradled three higher education notebooks as she would have carried a baby.

She stood at Oriental Filling Station, opposite the PPP secretariat and acted as if she was waiting for a cab. But in essence, the PPP secretariat was under her surveillance. To her advantage, it was a bit difficult getting a taxi at that spot.

It was not the best to stay in a position where you can be easily spotted when you are gathering information about a person or a place, but there are times when you can break the rules and get away with it. That day was one for Precious. She took a quick mental note of critical things about the building under her watch.

Precious reached for her phone, she feigned receiving a call but all she wanted to know was how many minutes she had spent – five minutes more than she planned. It was time to leave.

Precious stopped a taxi
‘’North gate, drop.’’
‘’N1200.’’
‘’I will pay 1500. Please drive fast, I have an important appointment to catch’’

The driver opened the front door happily. His taxi climbed the mountainous road that laid before it and descended the road to Oja. He was about to get to the overhead bridge when Precious said ‘’I will drop here.’’
‘’But you said North gate naa.’’ He replied rather perplexed. She gave him two new One thousand naira notes and left without asking fo her balance.

She went into a boutique and bought some new clothes. “Do you have a rest room here?” she asked the attendant. "Yes ma. It is down the hall to your left.’’ She came out another person. On her way back she threw a black nylon into a trash bin. It contained the clothes she wore before she entered the boutique.

It was getting dark, time to return to the safe house.

LAST ASSIGNMENT 8
Alagbaka, Akure

The election that made Oke Emmanuel the governor was called miraculous by those who believed in it. Three weeks before the elections, the candidate of the major opposition party- Action Party, Akingbade Jubril was the favourite to win. He had the support of the masses and even that of the sitting President, Galadima Hammed.

Things changed when The Punch Newspaper Investigative Journalist, Mohammed Hassan, brought to life some dead news from his past to speak against his ambitions.

While serving as the Commissioner for Finance, Jubril did many shady deals and buried them well. But two were not well covered. One, he diverted pensioners’ funds to build himself a world class hotel- the Lakesun Hotel at Oba Adesida Road. In justifying his actions, he asserted, “I borrowed it, and will refund as soon as the profits come in.’’ But profits didn’t come in as planned.
Secondly, he had an affair with his then secretary, Chidinma Eugene. She got pregnant, and he blamed her for being careless. ‘’Don’t tell me you are not wise enough to use contraceptives when spreading your legs for a man you are not married to,’’ he barked at her when she told him about the pregnancy. For fear that his reputation might be damaged. He made her abort. She died on the abortion table, a free sacrifice to Yama, the Hindu god of death.

When dealing with ladies, one must be very careful because whatever one does with a lady, she will tell at least one person before she dies.

In the Zippergate Scandal, Monica Lewinsky never wanted to say anything about her amorus relationship with Bill Clinton. It was her friend Linda Tripp in whom she confided that sold the story to agent Lucianne Goldberg. Chidinma confided in her friend Akinsipe Olapeju, and she sold the story to Hassan with convincing evidence.

To Jubril, Olapeju was used by the PPP to destroy his political career. He was not a man that easily forgave. The shock of the event spun him into a deep depression. And though he eventually got out of it, he never really got over it. He wanted revenge.

Those people were worse than himself after all, and nothing had happened to their political careers. He wanted to destroy the PPP in Ondo State together with everything it represented. He saw himself as a tool in God’s hands to wipe out those men. He was the one that planted the terrorist on the sunlit street of Alagbaka Akure.

As Agent Precious was returning to the safe house, She slightly shaking her tiny waist as she sang along to Simi’s “Soldier.” Solider go, soldier come, soldier do wetin you want, but don’t fall in love with me. Solider me I no dey do. Solider find another boo, but don’t you fall in love with me, Mr Soldier….’’ And then, something happened that made her knew she was in trouble.

LAST ASSIGNMENT…………..9
GRA, AKURE

The seemingly harmless mistake almost took her life. Precious should have known better. At Camp Peary, the CIA training facility which is also known as “The Farm,” agents are taught not to ever do anything that will push them to the climax of emotions during op.

Precious was at the climax of positive emotions. Her guard was down and she was vulnerable. She heard the side mirror of the blue Camry beside her shatter to pieces. The shot was pretty close.

Her training took over immediately. The first thing was to take cover to her advantage. She saw a turning to her left and dashed into it. The black figure behind her smiled, that was what he had wanted. Precious had just walked into his trap.

He was called ‘’Lone Wolf’’ by those he worked for. Most of the killings he did were done alone and were done with precision and dexterity. His latest hit was the killing of Alo Bidemi, A governorship aspirant of the Action Party. He had framed it very well. Autopsy revealed stroke as the cause of Bidemi's death.
That was story for the media.

Lone Wolf injected an overdose of Heparin into Bidemi’s system in his sleep. Before the next morning, Bidemi was effectively dead. That was not his first time of killing at the GRA. He only needed to take the turning before the one Precious took, soon they will be seeing each other face to face.

**************

The sun had completed its slow descent. It was getting dark. Precious almost froze as she saw the male figure walking towards her. His domineering appearance radiated evil. He flashed a sad smile as he strode towards her. Before she could reach for her gun he was already pointing a silenced 45-caliber semi-automatic pistol. He stopped few steps away from her.

‘’Hey broad, I want to make your death easy, I won’t kill you with this but this,’’ he growled as he produced a knife. ‘’Any last wish before you die?'’ Precious giggled, ‘’you motherfucking son-of-a-bitch. You're such a coward, I can see it in your face, you can’t even do a clean job!’’ He was surprised to be confronted by the tiny thing standing before him.

‘’I will send you to he…’’ Before he completed the sentence, he swung the knife at her throat. Her extraordinary reflex enabled her catch the thrust. Then with her left hand she delivered a deft jaw breaking blow, and two successive kicks into his gonad.

He doubled over in pain and attempted a right jab, but Precious was ready for that. With her pointed stiletto heel she kicked his temple. His skull was not as hard as it looked, really. He was staggering now trying to find his feet.

‘’Don’t ever in your miserable life mess with a master yogi.'’ With that, she gave the farewell smackdown, delivering the kick that brusquely brought him down.
Precious reached for his knife and drove it into the base of his skull and turned it here. With a cold flinch, death crept into his body.

She pulled out the knife, reached for a blue face towel and wrapped it neatly and hid it in her Armani bag. With the knife safe with her, she searched the black man and saw Akingbade Jubril’s business card.

She cursed under her breath, ‘’these idiots have infiltrated the DSS, how the hell on earth did they know I'm here?’’ She left the scene making sure no evidence was left behind.
Precious was tired when she got back to the safe house. she slumped on the bed and dialed her boss' number.

LAST ASSIGNMENT …10
GRA, AKURE

Some months ago, the CIA hacked the personal computer of top members of ISIS. They wanted to access Intel that could assist in the fight against the terror group. To their disappointed surprise, they found out that 70 percent of the materials on those PCs were pornography, called Jihadi porn.

The assassin and the terrorist have the same goal, but they employ different modes of operation. The former loves to do his work silently without drawing any attention. He does the damage and leaves quietly. But the latter kills to get attention.

Taking another man’s life is not as easy as it is being made to look in action movies. Murder puts a heavy psychological stress on a man’s soul. To be relieved of the stress, most times, killers drown themselves in things like drinks, drugs and sex. The etymology of the word 'assassin' reveals that it was coined from the word 'hassassin', meaning the follower of hashish - a potent drug taken by deadly men years ago after brutal killings.

The ghost in the apartment was thinking about the task ahead the following day. He felt an appetite for hedonistic pleasure. He wanted to satisfy that desire, since it would be his last time of having any carnal pleasure. And he knew just where to get what he wanted.

He had been in Akure for a while and had done his best not to arouse any suspicion or draw attention. He would make himself comfortable until he received further instruction on the assignment. 20 minutes after he left, he was back with this shy and quiet lady. She had some pound of flesh under her skin. To the ghost that made no difference, what mattered was that his desire be quenched.

To his surprise, the girl was the opposite of herself in bed. Her libidinous skills was revealed as he went into her. She was a tigress in bed, a raging fire, and an erupting volcano. She moaned repeatedly from sheer pleasure as she clasped her legs around his waist - subtle attempt to wear him out soon, but the ghost was stronger than she imagined. When she heard him moan hysterically, she smiled within herself. He was at his climax and it would soon be over.

Five minutes later, he rolled off. He managed to ask, ‘’How was it?’’

'’Stupendous.” she replied with a sigh.

With a relieving yearn, he dozed off, his hand across her chest. As expected, before he woke up, the girl was gone.

The PPP secretariat rose into view. He started to have this overwhelming feeling he had when the prostitute was with him. He snapped the thought out of his mind. No. Discipline is the ability to delay gratification. That desire was not for anything carnal, it was for the seven virgins that awaited him in heaven. He had imagined how exhilarating that ecstasy would be. If possible he would ask the angels to play Reminisce’s song ‘’Wa Fe Ku La Yi’’ as he ‘’bang’’ those virgins.

He checked his time and gave an affirmative nod. Six minutes to the detonation time.

LAST ASSIGNMENT 11
GRA, AKURE

Precious’ call made the fifth directorate to know that what was at hand was beyond what Precious alone could handle. Though she tried to sound confident, there was something in her that yearned for help.

‘’Don’t leave the safe house until the next instruction,’’ was the last things he said to her. It been three days since she spoke to her boss. He hadn’t called since then and it was beginning to trouble her.

At about 4:30 pm on the third day, he called. ‘’Help on the way. Stay put,’’. He didn’t allow her say anything before he ended the call. Ten minutes later, the door to the safe house opened and she saw three people entered.

An olive-skin and black-eyed lady entered first. She was young and slim, a bit shorter than Precious. Precious was trying to place a name to that face but couldn’t. This girl must be new in the DSS. She concluded. The lady before her was a Nigerian Jew, a third generation descendant of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp survivor.

At Sharon Onochie’s ancestral Anambra hometown - Anaocha, many believed her great grandfather, David Onoichie must have used the Arigbe leaf - a leaf believed to have mystical power that softens a woman’s heart - to win Ahuva Abbot’s heart.

In 1948, Felix was flown to Hadassah Medical Centre, Ein Kerem, Jerusalem for a deep hypothermic circulatory arrest, a surgical technique, also known as stand-still surgery, to correct a defect in one of his left vertebral arteries. The procedure involves lowering the body temperature to around 14oC to stop circulation and brain functions. This reduces rupturing of the arteries and of brain damage. In a way you were clinically killing the patient, and you have to bring him back to life in under 45 minutes. It was a delicate one.

The operation went well. He was recovering fine. He was told to stay some weeks back to monitor his progress. During his recovery period, he met Ahuva, an auxiliary nurse assigned to attend him - to take care of the cleaning of his room and changing of his bedding.
He loved the way she did her job but she appeared traumatized, a terror was hidden in her body. She behaved like one haunted by fear. Moved by compassion, he decided to speak to her on one of her visits.

‘’You are doing a wonderful job, but you always look sad. Hope there is no problem?’’

‘’I am fine,’’ she struggled to mumble, did her work faster than usual, and left.

The next time she came, he tried to talk to her again, and went a step further by touching her left arm. She twitched as she drifted away. This made his kind heart burdened. The following day as she was cleaning, with all the courage he could summon he said ‘’ you know, no matter how bad whatever you are going through, or might have gone through may be, you shouldn’t allow that shape your future. That you survived, that you are still alive, means God has a better future for you."

With the fury of a raging lion she turned and barked, ‘’God is dead. He couldn’t be alive to have watched that pig wasted the people he called His.’’ It was similar to being on the edge, a bomb counting to detonation time. With that she broke down in racking sobs. He knew he was in for it. A crying lady, one of the few things most men are unable to handle.
