The DG of Atiku Abubakar Election Campaign, Senate President Bukola Saraki looses his district and State by a wide margin to the opposition. The SW zone Atiku Abubakar Campaign Director and Coordinator, Ex Governor Fayose also lost his voting district and State.

We must admit that the numbers going to PDP's Atiku Abubakar nationwide are not attributable to any of his campaign slogans "Make Nigeria Work Again" or policy document released in Dubai, but instead the result of disappointment with Buhari"s performance. Atiku's campaign did not hit the chord with the electorate. Those who voted for him would still give him their votes even if he did not campaign at all because they were furious at his opponent, Buhari.

If Atiku had approached the election with a grassroot campaign and focused on Nigerian landscape and vigorously appealed to the local level he would have won over to his side a considerable number of voters nationwide, particularly in swing states, but he preferred instead to orient his campaign in an appeal to foreign media and international influencers to accept him as a better candidate to their free-market bottomline. He spent millions on Dubai trips and meetings and employed a school of consultants to put together for him a policy paper that went over the head of local market traders and investors to address concerns of foreigners and their greed for privatization of our national assets.

The Nigerian democracy in its form remain consistent with the principles of democracy anywhere else in the world that practices democracy of majority. In substance and in practice however, ethno-cracy at local level politics remain the most potent vehicle for driving an electoral victory. Those who fail to submit to politics at local level, however much endorsement they get in foreign lands will always come out loosers in their bid to rule.
