Standing near an Armored personnel carrier will make them prone to injury either from RPG or A machine gun's bullet that will be trying to take down the Tank.

Natural cover is not limited to trees or big rocks or mountains. Taking advantage of the rough terrain by lying down while observing is also a natural cover because in that situation of absence of perfect natural covers, the best option is to reduce the chances of being hit by the bullet.

The mortar might be their target and once they aim at it, it might get to them. The best thing to do is to lie down flat on the rough terrain.

The commander has a valid point, the APC tank is an obvious target, clustering around it, will claim lives when the tank is attacked...by scattering they make it harder for boko haram.

Very wise cousel, Rules of combat under fire 1. spread out to minimize losses from shells and mortar 2. Duck for natural covers, avoid anything that could draw enemy fire 3. find, fix, flank and finish. REMEMBER THIS AND YOU WOULD LIVE TO FIGHT ANOTHER BATTLE.
