Governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Thursday promised to repeal the law granting pensions to former governors and their deputies.

This according to him would free up resources for the masses if elected into office.

He urged the people to vote for him and all the APC candidates for the House of Assembly in the March 9 elections in Kwara.

“We need to change some terrible laws. We’ll repeal that obnoxious pension law when we get to office,” AbdulRazaq said during his campaign stop at Omu Aran in Kwara South and again in Pategi in Kwara North.

“It’s a privilege to become a governor of a state. It is dubious for anyone to become governor and then earn a pension more than people who served the state for their entire lives. We can’t take that anymore. But we need enough lawmakers to push through the repeal of the offensive law.”

The Kwara state pension law for former governors and their deputies has continued to raise eyebrows, with the masses and civil servants often decrying it as unjust and a rip off to the state.

Speaking at the rally, AbdulRazaq also said his administration will invest in security, local economy and youth empowerment in a bid to stamp out thuggery and bring government closer to the grassroots.

“We need to work seriously. We need to revamp the economy of Kwara State. We need to bring jobs to our people. We need to address security issues. Instead of funding police, they arm thugs. We will help the police by offering assistance they need to secure our communities,” he added.

He also vowed to join the efforts to grant full autonomy to the local government areas, insisting that is the only way to grow the local economy and halt the unhealthy exodus of people to the cities.

AbdulRazaq is on a fresh round of campaign tours of all the senatorial districts of the state, beginning with the Kwara South on Tuesday and Wednesday and Pategi in the northern axis of the state.

You see, I thought being a leader is a call to serve. That's why they can do anything to get there.
Why should they be getting paid in millions too, which work are they doing really.
Let the money part be removed and see how you will be begging people to come and take up positions.

They should not give former Governors pension. The Government should establish a big farm for each of them to go and be plucking mango there.

When they pluck mango and sell it, what they make is their pension.

There is a Pension law in Lagos yes. It is not up to 1 billion.

The law is written in plain English, you should read it.

And so therefore they should have endless recourse to public funds? Sentiments like these are what is killing our country. Didn't they have businesses or jobs before becoming governors? Benefits to the political class should be lean and controlled so that we can use our excess funds for other aspects of our development.

This is commendable and should be replicated in all the states of the federation even to the Federal level, this way elective positions will no longer be attractive. Once you are Ex-anything your Gratuity will be paid Asap, you can drag out your pension savings with your respective PFC's, No buying of cars or building of Houses for anybody every 2 or 3 years again. That way all the ex's won't be too rich to poke us in the face anymore, they will just retire to enjoy their little savings and if they have any investment at all they definitely won't have the gut to expend same on frivolities, neither will they ever aspire to become godfathers in their respective state as they'll have no resources to aggregate such demand. That way our economy can be freed to grow and the masses can freely elect their leaders. A situation where somebody served only for four years in an elective position or 10 years as a civil servant and you keep paying him for life how can such a country ever grow. When people serve or work they should be properly remunerated and when disengaged should be well compensated, after this no extra burden should be placed on our common-wealth or resources.
