With depression, the individual feels worthless, hopeless and helpless. When it all seems unbearable, they might contemplate suicide to end the pain and suffering. The best thing however is to seek help as there is a solution.

Ebiere Asu, a 2018 English and Communication graduate of the Federal University, Otuoke, is dead.

According to her friends, she took her own life on Tuesday, February, 26, 2018, after battling depression. .

Ebiere, who was meant to proceed on her NYSC in March, allegedly locked herself up in the toilet and was later found dead after the door was forced open.

We are all different. Millions of Nigerians suffer depression but not all of them have the emotional and mental capacity to handle depression.

People who are depressed live amongst us. If you look and listen carefully to certain statements from people, you'll sense depression.

But unfortunately, many people are insensitive.

Thanks for acknowledging it got almost to that. My point is it takes extraordinary intervention to get pass the suicidal thought and not really carrying it out and not everybody has the strength to carry on when it get to that 'tiny rope point'

I know you know that depression is way more complex than that.

You could go and drink just to go back home and end it all (suicide).

However, even if you avoid committing suicide, you could end up taking up a new mental disorder, alcohol abuse in this case which has several physiological, and psychosocial adverse effects like damage of the internal organs, abusive relationship, occupational problems and the depression most likely still stays.


I am replying this because I care about you and the 80+ guys who liked your comment and every other person who might need to see this.


Depression is a serious mental health problem and should be treated as such.


SEEK PROFESSIONAL MENTAL HEALTH CARE as often as you need it.

I might have a faint idea why this young promising girl committed suicide. Though I'm a guy, I nearly committed suicide also towards the end of my uni days, because I couldn't pay for my clearance and go for NYSC. But I held on trusting God. Now it's just a story. Depression is real, pls let's help each other.

Look at all the suicide cases happening over time. It did not stop the sun from rising and setting.

It's not easy, speaking from experience. I non fit gather heart take commit suicide but I lost alot battling depression for 4 yrs.
