Why Are Private Schools No Longer Operating The 6-3-3-4 Educational System? by amani337(m): 8:34pm On Mar 03, 2019
I have come to notice many private schools (warri, a classical example) are no longer operating the 6-3-3-4 educational system that is practiced in Nigeria, removing primary 6, jss3 and ss3.

This I think is very wrong. I for one skipped jss3, and it affected me terribly, expecially in chemistry. Removing 3yrs of education from a child's life may cause a child to miss out on a vital knowledge which would have been helpful on the long run.

Another effect of this is the rate at which kids will graduate secondary school at an age I consider too young to enter a higher institution. According to this system, my younger bro is expected to graduate secondary school at age 14.

Their public school counterpart are still operating the 6-3-3-4 system, I wonder why the privates are deviating from this.

Nairalanders what's your take on this?

Instead of 6-3-3-4, NERDC changed it to 9-3-4 system. What it means is that there is no pry 6 certificate as least educational certificate again, rather, we now have junior secondary school certificate as the least recognised educational certificate from at I think 2 years ago.
This pertains to both public and private schools.

I read about this change sometime ago, I didn't know it's now in implementation.
The 9-3-4 is basically the 6-3-3-4 in short form. They’re all the same because the 9-3-4, which is Basic 1-9 is the same thing as Primary 1-6 and JSS 1-3. My problem is that private schools are shortening the length of this program.

so my country people are bent on imitating the western education system by all means. This is the same as the American style.

9(junior high school) + 3(senior high) + 4(college/university).

It wasn't the best, our fathers operated under 6-5-4 which was better. 6-3-3-4 is just a waste of 2 yrs i.e pry 6 and ss3. All I did in pry 6 was revision of pry 5 subjects while SS3 was a revision of SS2 subjects.

6-3-3-4 or 6-9-4 is a waste of time, the best educational system for now is 5-5-4

Their is no policy in place to checkmate the influx of private schools in this country on the part of government, and parents are to blame on the other part.

There are it's just that it's not being strictly implemented and in some cases it varies from different states

In Canada, your child won't start school until s/he is 6 years old.

You see many parents making case for their wards to enter secondary school from primary 4. When you ask, they will tell you basic 3 uses basic 4 books, and basic 4 uses basic 5 books. Private schools are not helping matters too. Where are they rushing to? Those that designed the curriculum anf attached age to it are not dumb nah

Nigerian government killed the education system.

Nigeria educational system is now a big joke with no one to checkmate it. You'll see a child writing common entrance from Primary 3 or 4, then writing WAEC in SS2, some even SS1, next thing is to start external lesson and bang!! miracle centers. You'll see age 12 telling you him/her is done with SS. WTF...

There are now 1 month old in kindergarten, by 2050 Nigerians will be born graduates.

Our Educational system is faulty and curriculum far less than standard...
Norway does Engineering for 4years and Msc 1 year..
Here we do 5 years engineering... 1 year NYSC before you can proceed for MSC

I also schooled in Classical Warri. They still operate the system but it's your choice to skip classes if you are smart enough, I skipped js3 too
