Shortly after casting her votes during yesterday’s governorship and House of Assembly election in Lagos state, wife of APC National leader, Remi Tinubu, was accosted by newsmen who inquired from her what her next plan is since she will be going to the red chamber for the third time.

In her response, Mrs Tinubu said she aspires to be the next DSP, Deputy Senate President.


She lamented the participation of too many insignificant parties in the election, saying it makes it confusing and complicated for most of the illiterate voters, as well as money wasting and time consuming.

What kind of dumb question is that? She is a Senator of the Federal Republic. She can be addressed as "Senator", or even in a more generalized capacity as "Madam". A journalist addressing politicians in such familiar terms of endearment is unprofessional. This is why our politics is broken: not just politicians who don't understand their obligations, but people who do not understand their civic responsibilities to speak truth to power and hold those in power accountable for their actions. Anybody that addresses a politician as "mummy" is a brown envelope journalist looking for lucrative access to politicians.
