Engineers in the house, please I need clarification on the picture below, I have about four columns with this kind of adjustments and my engineer told me it's to correct an error and there is nothing to worry about.

Should I be worried and is this right?

Hi, what are the best practices for a water tank stand for a single story house? In terms of specification (height, material, price, etc). Thanks.

You can use Stainless Steel pipe for the stanchion and the tank can be rubber type e, g GEEPEE tank, STOREX tank

Thanks. What should be the total height of the stand. Also what's a reasonable price for one that will carry two tanks?

Good day experts in the house. Is it necessary or compulsory to plaster a wall before installing tiles?

The steel structure has been jeopardized and has failed it's purpose. The building completely depend on the load being transmitted to the columns.

However, I suggest he should introduce a new pillar and basket on the concrete cast column base. (No further digging)

OR, bend another bar ( legs) for reinforcement and on each bars of the column and also use dpc beam to chain up the affected columns.

It's a mistake and can happen to anyone, it's better corrected now.

Nevertheless, One good thing about construction is that it's construction.

Thanks

I love your response much. I think he shld introduce parallel iron bars with there legs bend out into all bars and make them rest on the concrete.
Only my opinion not a professional opinion

This is called cranking, but this is way too much structurally this is not acceptable, if the cranking is just little it can be overlooked. The best the Engr should do in this case is to cut of the iron completely and do another mat and small casting on the existing concrete. This called Hunch base. cheers

It's not a requirement for approvals in Anambra State. Just submitted a bungalow plan last week. However the requirements may differ from state to state.

Then how's the building basically constructed since it will not be a frame model? Is it just excavation and start laying blocks?

Sharp sand is better. The price difference is not up to 10k in practical terms.

You will need more than 20tons of laterite as you will need to wet and compact it leading you to need more laterite for the same volume.

But with good quality Sharp sand, no need for compacting or wetering, just fill and go. Saving time and labour costs.

Good day house, pls which one come first between PVC ceiling installation or wall plastering?
my Carpenter advice that we should install ceiling before plaster, but i always seen people plaster b4 ceiling
cc: rotecch77
I always do my ceilings first cos I think the plastering of the edges and mop up of wall breakages after ceiling can then be corrected during plastering.

Only that you have to instruct plasterer to ensure that they wipe any splatter as they go. They usually do but for the lazy ones just a reminder.

no Oga, always know that when u do ur p vc before plaster, it will gives u 100% strong than after, l have esperience a lot, when u do after plaster, there are some laps u will see in between wall and the clisp, which insect can penetrate from ceiling to inside room, and if u want to make the clips to closed to the wall den the clips will not straight , so there fore the best is to do it. before plaster,
my sentiments exactly.
Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by gabbytabby: 10:06am On Mar 11, 2019
Oga it’s not the showing that is the problem and you are correct they will not show big gaps but small enough for little insects to get through from the root at least more than if you plaster afterwards.

No matter how good they are there are little wall breakages here and there.

What might be a no no for ceiling installation prior to plaster is if you do not forsee completing the house within 6 months of ceiling installation. You might then plaster, do the ceiling later and then get the plasterer back to clean up the edges or use silicon as suggested by someone
rotecch77:

You get a point there, but when some building guru talk here you need to ponder with there reasoning.
When we are talking about building construction and maintenance handle by professionals such GAP you mention will not show.
1. They will maintain a straight wall from point A to B
. with this no gap will show.

2.They will think of the maintenance of such building.( because when you plaster part of the clips to the wall when time for maintenance comes up don't you think they chisel the plaster away before they can carry out good repair to the affected PVC CEILING.

OK o, when u are talking about apply silicon, yes correct sir, to the unlaps

Thanks to whoever suggested the silicon idea cos presently I am in one of such flats where pvc was done by tenant after plaster and I was going to call the plasterer to seal the edges and repaint by clear silicon will be a better alternative.

Thanks guys.

You are also correct ma.
But there is a way to do proper nogging of ceiling for pvc or asbestor, the 50mmx50mm plank will lap with the wall which will close any gap ( unless the wall is not perfectly done and monitor by profectional) then the pvc clips will be nailed to the 50x50mm plank any liitle gap there will not open into the inner ceiling bcs the plank has covered it already before installation of the pvc clips follow by the pvc board.

But to be on saver side when you see that your wall is not straight enough then installed your pvc then follow by plaster, or apply silicone if you notice any gap.

For a two storey building, what size of block is recommended to form the blocks of rooms, living room etc.

5 - inches or 6 - inches?
