In all our religious inclinations in Nigeria, the ironic thing is our latent wickedness so that one would wonder isn't the religion supposed to make us good? It seems to me we're seriously fighting over nothing! BotherMleeper: 2 Likes |

77up: Thank you It starts from me and you looking inwardly and asking ourselves the profit of hatred. What did the wise Master Yoda say? "Fear leads to anger, anger leads to HATE, hate leads to suffering..." No one feels better for hating someone, and no one should be encouraged to. Yes I don't trust christians because I dont expect them to wish well for me. But I can very well live my life focused on things that impact me meaningfully and positively without wasting away consumed by hate. Hating someone wont mean I'll make it into heaven; respecting their rights as long as they dont impede my rights makes heaven that much closer. If the youth should learn anything, it's that they're being used to perpetuate the system of corruption that benefits only those old geezers. They weaponize our hate into something potent and destructive.....for the gain of someone in gilded mansions. Do we destroy those mansions in our fits of rage? No we destroy the essence of society, we destroy our humanity. |

77up: Like I said, yes churches did preach to their people to vote for certain interest groups. So? Did we do any less? As much as I dont like religion mixed into politics, I am not offended if people think conforming a certain way would better their interests. Isnt that what politics is all about? In the US the evangelical body tends to the Right because conservatism fits their worldview. Should the Left be offended and damn them? As long as you dont hound me for my beliefs, you're free to give your votes to whomever you please as well I have that right too. That being said, my problem with the church is how they demonize and consecrate Islam as something abhorrently evil, something to be feared. That offends me deeply. They joyfully propagandize it on podiums on TV and radio....and they gloat about being untouchable, about how Nigeria will"go up in flames" if they're arrested. That's one aspect of the truth. But truth is universal. We too have imams preaching hate, and we like to tell ourselves it's in reaction to the stance of the church. Now my mission is not to cast faults; my aim is to address fault lines and hope we all overcome this petty squabble of whose religion is right. To me, Islam is the true religion, to others theirs is. Big deal. "Lakum deenukum waliyadeen". To each, his own. |
