All4good:

You are totally mistaken. There are many reasons authors choose to adopt a pen name other than trying to conceal their ethnicity or cultural background.
More apt is the desire for writers to overcome certain glass ceilings that could hinder the acceptance of their work.
To answer your question, yes I have seen British and American Authors adopt Pen names; notable amongs which are Joanne Rowling (Harry Potter) using the pen names Robert Galbraith and JK Rowling . Also Benjamin Franklin used the pen name Mrs Silence Dogood and Samuel Clemens used the pen name Mark Twain. I believe these are enough proof for you.
Understanding a writers motive, audience and personal challenges determines if the use of pen name or real name is the best route and not "get rich quick" as you put it.

No you didn't answer the question. You simply avoided the question. Have you ever seen a white man use a Yoruba, Hausa or Igbo name? Have you ever seen this happen before? You didn't answer this. You avoided it.

The examples you gave are white people adopting white names and this was not the focus of my earlier post.

Not everybody can adopt a name or a white name. I'm not saying some people are not doing so. If at all as a Nigerian you want to hide your identity and use a pen name, why don't you use a native name that belongs to your cultural heritage? If some whites are using pen names, they use white names. If Nigerians want to adopt a pen name, instead of using or adopting Nigerian names, they adopt foreign white names.

Why can't you use your cultural name or even if it's not your cultural name, use any other Nigerian name? Eg a Yoruba writer adopting an Hausa name or vice versa, if you want to hide your identity. Has this happened before?

So the fact that some people are doing something doesn't mean it's good for everybody. It doesn't mean you should advise every dick and harry to do it.

Majority of authors don't adopt Pen names except those who are writing many books on different genres or are writing very classified or politically expository content. Like George Orwell - Animal Farm.

And mind you, with my over 15 years of professional experience editing books for both Nigerians, Africans and whites alike, I can confidently tell you that many Nigerians who adopted white names for their books didn't go far with it. They simply couldn't sustain it because at the moment it's expensive in the long run to maintain a pen name especially if you're already known to some extent with your own name.

Mind you also, in the course of my editing career, I've met white writers who later regretted adopting a pen name. They wished they had stuck to their real names, but it was already too late to do this and changing back to their real names would mean a lot of confusion, expenses and waste of decades of years in the process. So all that glitters is not gold. I'm talking from experience. Many years of experience.

My focus here is that Nigerian writers or African writers can make it in any genre they want even by using their own names as long as they package their books well and promote it massively. Yes they can make it without necessarily having to be forced to adopt a white man's name. That's my focus.

So before you get your idea for fiction, you must first of all know the type of fiction novel you want to write.
