No Fresh Collapse On Lagos Island – Govt by mrakeli62: 4:57am On Mar 19, 2019
The Lagos State Government has debunked claims that a building on 57, Egerton Square, Oke Arin area on Lagos Island collapsed, yesterday, with people trapped.

General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Adesina Tiamiyu insisted no building collapsed on Lagos Island, yesterday.

He said what happened was that officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, (LASBCA) were demolishing the building on Egerton Square and that a scavenger got injured while trying to pick up something from the building.

Also, LASBCA officials, who were at the scene, said there was no collapsed building and that they were only pulling down a structure when a scavenger tried to pick up something and was injured.

LASBCA Public Affairs Officer, Titi Ajirotutu, denied that a building collapsed on Lagos Island, saying the building was under demolition and that one person who was trying to pick up something from the building was seriously injured.

Regardless, a witness insisted the building did not collapse on its own, but that it was being demolished and that four scavengers were injured.

“The four scavengers sustained minor injuries and had been taken to the nearest hospital before the arrival of the Lagos Response team (LRT), LASEMA said on its Twitter handle.

Shame on rumor mongers.
For every persons or group of people that always pray for bad, evil news and tragedies on other people.
Serious tragedies will never depart from their lives, they can't escape it.
That is the law of nature, not a curse!

And the lie was given a platform to spread more by nairaland. It's time the owner of nairaland should use his money to support campaign against fake news the same way WhatsApp is doing because the platform seems to be benefiting from the spread of fake news. Government should also place a kind of fine or tax on platforms like nairaland that directly benefit from the business of fake news.

I knew it was fake news wink
Unfortunately, Nairaland allowed it on the homepage.

I was on the island throughout yesterday and we didn't hear anything of such. No single reputable media house reported a building collapse, because it was nothing to report about.

TVC and Channels were in Òkè Arin and couldn't find a collapsed building. Only useless bloggers found a building that collapsed

These people should stop defending lies to cover their ineptitude to verify beluilding, before they are being errected.

I live on the island just like 10 street to where the second beuilding colapse, but not really fatal like the first one.

I couldn't go there just because I was at work then, and I come home late from work daily.

Their was a second colapse building in the said area.

Though the government have tried their part in marking and bringing down bad building since the first incidence happened and I give kudos to them.

Lagos state government should always come out clean and not cover themselves from shame, because their civil servant who are to inspect buildings before they start errecting any building are corrupt people.

They prefare to collect money from developers to build their nonsense structure than to save people's lives.

I just need another job in abeokuta to leave this lagos entirely. Please if you have any job in abeokuta, kindly help me out.

Thank you

Building collapse is another means bloggers and media houses generate traffic. So I am not surprised when the news was spread.
Re: No Fresh Collapse On Lagos Island – Govt by ignis: 7:15am On Mar 19, 2019
Why would they allow scavenger or anybody go close to a building under demolition?
