The House of Representatives has suspended plenary to April 2 to enable members engage Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) at committee level on the defense of 2019 budget proposal.

This was sequel to a unanimous adoption of a motion by the Majority Leader of the House, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila (APC-Lagos) at the plenary on Tuesday

In his ruling, the Deputy Speaker of House, Rep. Yussuf Lassun (APC-Osun), urged all the standing committees to work and conclude budget defense before May.

He said that the 2019 Appropriation Bill should be ready for passage upon resumption of the House in May.

The fact that they suspend plenary doesn't mean they are on holiday. What it means is they will be working at committee level, engaging the MDAs and other stakeholders on the appropriation bill so that it can get passed.

Committee level is where most of the works are done. However, what the public gets to see on TV is the plenary session. So, do not think their work starts and ends at the plenary, no. The real work is done behind the scene...

I will keep saying this, we have a failed political structure in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.

We have all failed democracy.

New structure is the only way forward, too many loopholes in the present system.

All members belongs to one committee or the other. Some members even belongs to up to four committee. These committees carry out over sight functions for different ministries, agencies, parastatals etc. These committees would have to scrutinize the budget proposal of the ministries they are carrying out over sight functions on. They would report back to the whole house during plenary on April 2. No holiday for anyone.

And 2019 budget is hanging in their chamber..God have mercy on these bunch of unpatriotic lazy reps
