As am employer of labour, i will NEVER employ a graduate from a private university. because is only in private university u see the number of First Class student greater than the number of those with second class upper, and those with second class upper greater than those with second class lower. third class degree is only reserve for those who are struggling to spell there name (thats if there is any)

Free sex cheesy that's part of the exposure in public universities cool honestly going to private university is like going back to secondary school while studying university courses and being treated as badly as you were treated in secondary school AT AN EXORBITANT FEE, that's the crazy part.. And they label it discipline, discipline my ass, besides anyone can get a certificate at a private university without attending a class grin na your money kill am, but still there are good private universities and all have their reasons for being sort of strict, and that's to avoid cultisim which is prevalent in public universities, some private universities are too small tho

PS the only the thing affecting public universities is government funding, which is what appointed unions like ASUU keep fighting for, if your VC knows what he's doing he won't just pocket the money and run.. And yea public universities are cheaper options as regards the economy,

there is this saying glittering ornaments like gold passed through fire to become what they are, such is life, if you've never experienced hardship in your life, guarantee that you'll manage tough situations is almost zero

I would say 65% because not all parents who sent their children to Private University are rich. We have the ones who struggle to save up money.

Public, federal universities (as dilapidated and quite frankly, messed up as some of them are) command a greater respect than any other type

Even in this nonsensical election that just passed..they only called these VCs (who couldnt read their own writing, i know!) from federal schools to conduct it

Fallacy. Public University is simply a reflection of a failed society, while private universities are only pretending. Travel out and witness real world academic hardness where laziness and fake cannot survive.
Our Universities either way are filled with academicians that has no direct impact on their immediate environment.

Why exactly is this thread on the front page?

Do people even still argue this shit?

I mean this is so immature.

And I guess this is the kind of maturity you learn from a public university right.

Check this out:

Freedom and Independence ( Sounds to me like an lame excuse for truancy and indiscipline ) Who says you have no freedom. You are free to do whatever pleases you within the confines of the law. Break the law and you face the consequence.

Cost of Education - Well its private, not funded by the Govt. They have to get funds somewhere

Exposure - Exposure to what exactly? Life is what you make of it. Exposure is relative. The only real exposure you get is when you truly strike out on your own.

Life on and Off Campus - My rebutal for your first point holds here. Youthful exuberance does not like the confinement of law.

Maturity - Yes I can see the maturity. That is why you went to start a dumb thread as this.

Hard Work - Like seriously! Is this guy high or something? Just because your professor made life hard or you because you didn't settle him or give him the punny he wanted doesn't mean you work hard. The best graduates of Private Universities will face up to the best of Public Universities

There is no disadvantage whatsoever; it is poverty of the mind that makes us deduce such utterances. Nothing is good as having a lot of money to afford what you wish and want.

While there are some Nigerian guys who are actually excited about the idea of attending a private university after their secondary schools, there are even more than thrice the number who don’t wish to, especially those who come from well-to-do families whose parents are always intoxicated with the proposed or assumed good morals and high quality of education their children will benefit from these private institutions.

Not to lie or hide it, private universities do have some good advantages like the absense of the very familiar strike in the federal and state universities and the quicker and better access to lectures but honestly that’s all they can boast of. Forget their forming and poshy lifestyles. Many of them wish they were in federal and public universities. Lol.

I had an encounter with a girl from Madonna university and she confirmed she wished she was in Imo State University as her school was worse than a nursery school in the ways they were being treated.

Going to a federal or state university gives you the exposure you need in life and not being confined like someone in a prison or a food warming in the microwave. You learn the ethics and orientations of the real world and you are braced to face life because you have seen it all.

You gain wisdom outside the school lecture halls and your system becomes automatically adapted to the real life hustles and struggles unlike some over pampered babies in the private institutions who can’t face the real world when they graduate.

Graduating from a public institution gives you a psychological balance and charges your mental ability to scale through difficult times.

Enough of the talk. Let’s roll straight to the point. Here are six reasons private universities don’t suit a typical Nigerian in this our kind of bad economy and government no matter how rich your parents are. C’mon, forget the money, you need to experience life in the public institutions and your life will never remain the same.

Freedom and Independence: You don’t wanna be confined in a place like a baby or someone in prison or a food warming in a microwave. You need space, you need freedom, you need to explore more, you need to move out and experience some things. Unfortunately, going to private universities, especially those owned by the churches won’t help you achieve this and I know deep down your heart, you wouldn’t like this to be your case. You also need to wear that favorite dress you like and you can only do this in a public university. In private universities, you live the normal routine of a bank staff – everyday corporate. Lol.

Cost of Education: Private universities pay exorbitant school fees as if they even learn anything. What has a student from a private university in Nigeria invented or accomplished after all the school fees? Not just about fees, cost of living in private universities are way too high unlike in the public universities where you can cook your own food, go to the market and buy foodstuffs at cheaper prices. Don’t you think you are too old to be fed like a baby in the private university?

Exposure: In a public university, you literally meet life and life meets you. You see it all. But in a private university, you graduate and still haven’t met a quarter of life let alone life meeting you.

Life on and off campus is everything: Like it sounds, it’s just it. Campus life is sweet – on and off it. That’s the kind of fun you will only experience in a public university. No wonder when students in private universities are on break, they want to do all the bad things and have all the fun at once before going back to school. They know they are in prisons and not school. Lol.

Maturity: When you graduate from a public university, you automatically become an adult because the school system has shaped you to be. But when you graduate from a private university, you start life afresh like a new born baby.

Hard Work: Public university will teach you that hard work is compulsory and you will see it with your two eyes. Students in privates schools are still being pampered like nursery school students.

Read more here:

https://schooltalk.com.ng/6-disadvantages-of-going-to-a-private-university/

You people should stop deceiving the world with all these "you go see life" in public schools. All these are dependent on the school location as well as the individual

Not everyone is in notorious public schools like Unilag, OAU and Uniben. Some public schools might as well be private schools with how orderly and strict they are. For instance, a lot pf public schools in the North, just like private institutions, have dress codes.

Secondly, if a person is holed up in thw hostel, I doubt there is much to see. I spent five years in a public institution and I can count how many times I went off campus and how many times I went to parties.

We read here how a Covenant student traveled all the way to Ibadan to see man. That girl has had more adventure in her lifw than I have, but na private school she go.

Just because you are suffering doesn't mean you are seeing life. Private school students love to party and have a good time, they are bold and adventurous and they can afford it. They are having the time of their lives unapologetically. Lots of public school students are innately jealous of this, and convince themselves they have 'seen life' more than those in private schools.

I attended a private University I rep Ajayi Crowther University owned by the Anglican Church.
These points of yours are not valid, let me remind you,"school does not make any man" if you are good, you are good.
Contrary to all what you wrote in your article, the major point of yours is the "exposure" part. Most of you who comment on private university had never being into one before talk less of knowing what they do in it.
In a private University, the first thing that make it student's achieve excellent result is that "there is no fear of intimidation" from any lecturer's.
The V.C's,Dean,H.O.D nos.are in all the student's phone, just look at that. There are suggestion box if you feel threatened and if you are able to prove any "sexual molestation" case, the lecturer is automatically dismissed from service.
Secondly,do you think if private Universities are substandard,it would be approved by N.U.C ,let me remind you to obtain the start up licence of any private university, it's about #200million just for licence approval, not for accreditation,is that cheap.
Thirdly my University pays all staff salaries at every 26th.of the month not for once in the past 13years have they been owed any salary, I can count about 10 lecturer's in Lautech who resigned and went to the private university. My school runs a monthly expenses of #75million,that is not cheap.
My fourth point is that, staff promotion is well secured unlike public school's, as long as your international journals are on point, your becoming a professor is well guaranteed. Have you observed that most institutions that the Nigerian government handles are not performing well not until the private investors comes in.
My fifth point is I was a diploma student in the public university before I got into the private university as a direct entry student, the expensive tuition fee we pay is only meant for comfort and towards "healthy mind"
I had been to great Ife,I love the school with passion, but the day I went to drop off my younger brother inside Fajuyi hall of residence as a 100l student, when I entered into my brother's room which he would be staying for the next one year, tears gathered up in my eyes, why? the walls were all stained due to neglect and one of his seniors who we met asked him that he needs a big cupboard because the hostel rat's are damn big, some of the bunks were so bad and you would wake up with severe body pains all over you.
There is this assumption by most Nigerian graduate's the term "hustling spirit" has to do with survival for the basic necessities of life and we are already having a damaged concept of "you must fight to be successful in life" asides "poor management of our national resources and bad leadership" naija would compete with some World powers.
You said what has any private university or it student's invented ? I can't be mentioning the achievement of my friend's after school, but for me I am a motivational speaker,a writer and I have about "149" personally written articles here on nairaland and I go by the name "Darevofpeace" you can check out my article's bro
All my Lecturers and Professors were all products of Public University. I was taught by the O.A.U H.O.D Accounting as a 400L student in 2013,Professor Ashaolu and 90% of my mates had A's in the Management Accounting he taught us.
Professor Ashaolu lectures in about 12 Universities way back, all his University mates are always part of the N.U.C accreditation teams and do you think Professor Ashaolu would reduce his professionalism because he lectures at my University.
All major courses in my University were duely approved, less you forget, for all Universities, there is always re-accreditation of all departments as the year progresses.
All your points are so weak.My University friends are doing so well in there career.I have a 1st class graduate in my set whose first job was at KPMG as a graduate trainee.
She is still working at KPMG now.Do you have any understanding about getting a job at KPMG? This international firm only recruits 1st class and 2.1 for job interviews, they pay it graduate trainees the sum of #250k.
Do you think that is cheap? KPMG are the major private firm who audit NNPC,SHELL,CHEVRON, Nigeria Bottling Companies Account.
Life is bigger than all what you wrote up here,we were 120 students in my department and about 50 of us now are ICAN certified.
Do you know what it takes to pass ICAN examinations? does ICAN gives Private University student's easy exams to write?
I could go on and on about my own valid points to negate yours. Most of my friends went abroad for the postgraduate studies and are into there P.hD already.
You only wrote based on your myopic sense which is so little.
I write for bloggers and get paid good cash on all topics.
Do you know what it takes to become a Writer? writing is a great intelligent art work which requires hardwork of the mind usage.

I write on marriage, leadership, academics, motivations and I do get paid by some bloggers when I write for them. You should know to be a "writer" is not cheap.
Lastly in the struggles of the life after graduation, the life challenges won't differentiate a "private University " and "public university" graduate's. The hustle in naija is so real and we must survive.Your analysis are not totally correct brother. I would be waiting for your reply.

I went to a public school but I swear my children will never attend any public school. It’s just suffering. They jampack y’all like sardines for lecture . The lecturers are unnecessarily harsh. Public school people lack confidence because of this . Unlike most private school people they have good speaking etiquette. That’s why most job seekers look for covenant university or good private school not all dose Madonna .
Public school is difficult to have connect unlike private . I hate public schools the worst is state school .

You should know by now that any appointment of the V.C in any public school's is always political, if you are in a federal University, you must be recommended by some people in the presidency and by the governor if it's a state University, most Public school's V.C after retirement goes to the private universities.

Noted. That makes sense

My main point is that by and large, "University of Lagos", "University of Calabar" all those just make a much better first impression than other places. The person will assume that you can at least understand something, unless or until you mess up

With other schools, it is usually the other way around

The other thing about private schools is that they tend to name themselves these obscure names that will still take a while to establish in the collective public psyche. Well thats more of a function of time. If they distinguish themselves positively, then people will get to hear of them

The advantages of public university over private universities in Nigeria are uncountable but i will try to be very brief.
Public school has the prestige. Moreover private university are very sympathetic to the grade they award to student due to the huge sum of money they pay.

How do you compare the "date of birth" of a 50yrs old man to a 15years old boy, most of these public school's are over 40years old.I love your point thou.
Re: 6 Disadvantages Of Going To A Private University - Schooltalk.com.ng by FrancisAdl(m): 8:04pm On Mar 20, 2019
Most of the points you mentioned are completely frivolous. All these would not matter 10 years after school. One major advantage of going to Private School is the quality of people you would meet and that outweighs all the benefits. Most of my peers already secured good-paying jobs and businesses right before graduation.
It's like suffering in Nigeria and claiming wise when kids in the same age as you in Germany are earning way more but they run a more strict judiciary system.
Two things would define your altitude as a human being, that's your DNA and your environment. The things you consider a bragging right or an achievement counts as nothing in an private school environment where you have kids with parents earning millions of dollars.
I remember making 400k per month in my 300 level and it felt like nothing because of the environment and people I was exposed to. That alone shaped my thinking to stay quiet and do more. Yes there's a lot of exposure that can be gained from going to Federal schools but the quality is all that matters.
