Chief Ebenezer Babatope, a former Minister of Transport and member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in this interview with TEMIDAYO AKINSUYI, speaks on issues on the chances of the PDP at the Presidential Election Tribunal and other issues. Excerpts:

Is there any hope for your party and its presidential candidate as he seeks to challenge the declaration of President Muhammadu Buhari as the winner of the presidential elections in court?

As a lawyer, I have my belief that the judiciary is capable of performing wonders that we think can only be performed by the western European countries. I believe Atiku will get justice. I believe the judiciary is up to the task of ensuring that justice is done. As party members, we will support him in every way we can and ensure that we will do everything within our power to get justice.

What is your take on the leadership of the incoming National Assembly? Do you think the President should interfere in the process?

That is the duty of the members of his party if they decide so, because, the APC is in the majority in the Senate and House of Representatives. But we all know Buhari can do anything because he is capable of doing anything. The APC also have a strong-headed national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole. Whoever Buhari and Oshiomhole wants will likely emerge but I know that by the grace of God, when we leave the tribunal, we will be able chart the way forward for this country. But as it is now, it is going to be Buhari and Oshiomhole who will be dictating the pace.

I don't blame Atiku for going to court because he knows that he can't contest again for the presidency after this latest election. But unfortunately for him he is just wasting his time, and money.
