CU is undoubtedly the best university in Nigeria followed by University of Ibadan.

CU is actually not in competition with any Nigerian University. Absolutely audacious goal of breaking into top 10 in the World by 2022. Aim for the stars and you just might land on Mount Kilimanjaro. CU is already 8th in Africa. Times Higher Education Ranking.

As far as I’m concerned, convenient university is the best school in Nigeria. It’s still evolving and has to do away with some practices and learn new practices but I can see a school with a vision to be the best in Africa and maybe the world someday.

Hiring foreign professors to lead research while teaching in Nigeria will greatly open up the marketability of the University and increase the variety of talent pool groomed by the university!

P.s. I went to a federal school where I was abused and mistreated and victimized by lecturers who now make less than the guys that man my gate. It is well.

I strongly encourage all parents with university aged kids to try private universities or go abroad. Don’t kill your child’s talent in federal unis.

You have said it all.

The wahala and rot in federal uni is TOO MUCH!

You see, I have come to understand that Nigerians hate Nigeria.
No matter the tribe, we are all hypocrites.
I've been to Winners Chapel headquarters...and I must say that the church is gradually transforming the entire vicinity.
If a church can run this efficiently, why can't this country?
Nigeria is just an annoying country!

Very soon the University will become liberal. Foreign students would not want to be controlled the way these Nigerians are in covenant.

This is what detribalized universities do. They are sending a key message. The school may be in Ota area but isn't dominated by sons of the soil.

Only companies does that and not university.

This university is getting it. They're getting it.

Research, they're really trying, easily one of the best, if not the best in Nigeria (although I don't believe their nobel prize in 3 years is a realistic expectation)

Now, they're trying to recruit foreign faculty of Nigerian descent to strengthen the capability and general exposure of the university. In 50 years or less, I see this university reaching world class height..It won't happen oversight though..

Oya, Covenant, come hire me and my squad..We fit your criteria. We're hard working, maybe a bit smart, and we are very productive and will only cost 50K dollars per year grin

Yes, this can happen --though it depends on your definition of a few years. It will be very hard to displace UCT, Wits, Stellebosch..I've been to some of these places.

However, if Covenant continues this way, with the money they are pumping and their insight, they will reach top 3 is a few years. I think it will be relatively easier to displace Makarere and Kwazulunatal.. But UCT, Wits and Stellenbosch, e go hard in the short term

Christianity is a super culture, and organisations from several sectors: Education, health, sports, hospitality, music etc are going to be turning to the church to learn the standards for running their businesses as a result of the massive strides the church is taking in these sectors. God bless Bishop David Oyedepo and the Covenant family forevermore. What visionary people. God increase them.

I agree with some of your points.

You made some good points that I agree with.

However, talents are not killed at federal university, you can't generalize with your agreeably unfortunate case. Two, all parents cannot send their kids to private universities..It won't happen - unless maybe you want to sponsor this.

The Nigerian top students (who schooled in Nigeria) I know of, who are attending top programs in America and UK and elsewhere, they attended federal universities in Nigeria..They're spread across Harvard, MIT, Stanford, etc etc.

Federal universities are still OK in Nigeria although there are lots to be done to make them better.

My cousins will be entering Uniben in September...Of course in 10 years time, I do not see them achieving less than someone who attended a big money school.

The parents sending their kids to any university should also be active in the lives of their kids. If they don't know much, they should get correct mentors for their kids...Lack of mentorship is partly responsible for the bad turnout of students, and it is not solely the job of academics to mentor undergrads

Like I said before, I hope it is not going to be philosophers, economists or sociologists alone, even though they are cheaper.

We need accomplished foreign engineers and applied scientists lecturing in our schools.

That is where the greatness is.

Which Unilorin? Iffa hear!

I have personally requested for 2 transcripts from Unilorin since April and August last year, they still can't find either or both. Claiming they were not computerised and can't find the hardcopies.

Shame of a University with 'ethno-religious' grandstanding.
Is true that unilorin favours a particular tribe or religion in their admission process ?

Covenant University Sets Aside N4 Billion For International Staff Recruitment.

Covenant University, Ota unveiled its plan to recruit foreign faculty during the past administration of vice chancellor CK Ayo. The international recruitment drive is in line with Times Higher Education's(A leading Consultant In Higher Education) requirement for world class universities to have a minimum of 19% of her staff and students as foreigners.

The University would engage international faculty as either full or visiting staff. In the case of visiting staff, the lecturers would be required to lecture fully in CU for one semester(3 months) - minimum. After which they can relocate to their home countries' universities of primary assignment. The appointment of foreign staff would be renewable each year.

The University has set aside initial of about 10 million USD to recruit foreign faculty. However, Covenant University would focus more on foreign faculty of Nigerian descent. This maintains a balance between the pan africanist mandate and a desire to have foreign faculty from leading research institutions. The recruitment drive would also help to bring the university into the expected 7:1 student - staff ratio which it expects to have realised by 2022. This would help Covenant surpass Times Higher Education assessment of top 200 universities in the world which are found to have a 11:1 staff - student ratio.

According to Times Higher Education, Internalisation is proof of a university's reputation. And reputation is a proxy to quality, therefore internationalization remains a critical part of any university ranking process. Apart from that, Internationalization helps universities to be grounds of cross fertilization of ideas and melting pot of culture.

Covenant University is also looking to increase the allotment of International students to 19% of total student population.
The University's strategy for this is to use the existent infrastructure of her proprietor base in several African countries to aid increasing foreign recruitment of students.

In addition to this, the university would be translating to a major center for post graduate education with an overall 2:1 student population in favour of post graduate students.

BISHOP OYEDEPO SHOULD USE THE MONEY TO SET UP INDUSTRIES IN NIGERIA.

Rather than draining himself to pay foreign lecturers all in the name of creating wave.

Many Covenant graduates are languishing on the streets of Nigeria in JOBLESSNESS.

MANPOWER IN NIGERIA IS AVAILABLE IN ABUNDANCE.

We must engage local expatriate and respect LOCAL CONTENT LAWS.

It is rather unfortunate that Indians, Lebanese, Chinese, Philippines, South African, have taken over our jobs while they pursue our citizens for drugs and other nefarious activities in their homeland or country.
