Well said.

Ranking will improve significantly, and patronage will skyrocket!!! cheesy

More importantly, most Nigerian parents / students will look away from Benin, Ghana etc!!!

sevo:
This will encourage rich folks from across the continent to send their wards to CU. Too much sense will not kill this bishop

No, Not at all.

But in terms of staffing and appointments, there are just too many indices.

Its possible since they know the criteria and have decided to implement and work towards it.

Yes, this can happen --though it depends on your definition of a few years. It will be very hard to displace UCT, Wits, Stellebosch..I've been to some of these places.

However, if Covenant continues this way, with the money they are pumping and their insight, they will reach top 3 is a few years. I think it will be relatively easier to displace Makarere and Kwazulunatal.. But UCT, Wits and Stellenbosch, e go hard in the short term
Budget size and research out put will go a long way.

Vision 2022 on course. It is written "..in all your getting, get Wisdom..." Wisdom is the principal thing.
As for you who think otherwise, CU was not built for profit making. Infact, the the church uses it's money to sponsor CU projects and research. If you don't know you don't know!

Lols. With the obvious fact that some regions are taking Nigeria education backward, and their elites will rather have them as almajiris and instrument to amass massive votes during election. It's time we need to separate the crumbs from the main

Yea,nigerians started going to kenya, tanzania, india, ghana, morrocco, gambia, benin republic because of the funny system we have created here.a student in a part of nigeria gains admissions with low marks, while in other zones people find it difficult.Fees add to the GDP of unitedkingdom, students pay rent, transport and feed ,attend hospitals, etc. These money could have been spent somewhere in nigeria.

In fact, government sponsors academically bright Nigerians to UK Schools every years for masters, from the oil money just to fulfill all righteousness. That money could be use to improve our Universities and have other nationals come to Nigeria for studies too.

It is also good but we don't use them for nation building,China for example has PhD students in every developed country, and the PhD student had been mandated to send any new innovation to a particular department of government and they must produce a prototype within 24hrs and continue further research .And again you are very important to the Chinese government if you have received education from Russia,u.s,uk,infact they want you to work in a government department. Here go to NNPC headquaters and see the dress code and language they speak.

HigherEd:
Covenant University Sets Aside N4 Billion For International Staff Recruitment.

Covenant University, Ota unveiled its plan to recruit foreign faculty during the past administration of vice chancellor CK Ayo. The international recruitment drive is in line with Times Higher Education's(A leading Consultant In Higher Education) requirement for world class universities to have a minimum of 19% of her staff and students as foreigners.

The University would engage international faculty as either full or visiting staff. In the case of visiting staff, the lecturers would be required to lecture fully in CU for one semester(3 months) - minimum. After which they can relocate to their home countries' universities of primary assignment. The appointment of foreign staff would be renewable each year.

The University has set aside initial of about 10 million USD to recruit foreign faculty. However, Covenant University would focus more on foreign faculty of Nigerian descent. This maintains a balance between the pan africanist mandate and a desire to have foreign faculty from leading research institutions. The recruitment drive would also help to bring the university into the expected 7:1 student - staff ratio which it expects to have realised by 2022. This would help Covenant surpass Times Higher Education assessment of top 200 universities in the world which are found to have a 11:1 staff - student ratio.

According to Times Higher Education, Internalisation is proof of a university's reputation. And reputation is a proxy to quality, therefore internationalization remains a critical part of any university ranking process. Apart from that, Internationalization helps universities to be grounds of cross fertilization of ideas and melting pot of culture.

Covenant University is also looking to increase the allotment of International students to 19% of total student population.
The University's strategy for this is to use the existent infrastructure of her proprietor base in several African countries to aid increasing foreign recruitment of students.

In addition to this, the university would be translating to a major center for post graduate education with an overall 2:1 student population in favour of post graduate students.

Like I said before, I hope it is not going to be philosophers, economists or sociologists alone, even though they are cheaper.

We need accomplished foreign engineers and applied scientists lecturing in our schools.

That is where the greatness is.

we need the economists, sociologist and psychologist too....

we need a balance that cuts across fields....

Economics is a very important field, and we need more solid economists in Nigeria

we need a whole range of fields, not just the science ones
