Hope seemed lost on Saturday at Ijebu Iperu in Ogun state when the remains of Late Inspector Seun Shoyebo, was laid to rest in his home town.

The late traffic control police officer identified as inspector Seun Shoyebo was killed a forthnight ago when he ran into an abandoned truck in Ajah area of Lagos. The officer ran into the truck and got crushed to death in the process

In the midst of mourning, Mrs. Adetutu Shoyebo lamented that the owners of the killer truck that killed her husband – have not visited her and their three children.

“I have not seen the driver and the owner of the truck” she shook her head vigorously. “They have refused to visit us. Instead they offered to pay my family the sum of N250,000 (Two Hundred and Fifty Naira Only) as compensation. The people are wicked because the initial deposit paid in the hospital and the cost of mortuary alone is more than N250K.”

For Mrs Adetutu Shoyebo what is uppermost in her mind now is, “How I will pay the school fees of my children and feed them.”

Hmmm...... abandoned or not.... the truck driver/owner is not responsible for the death of her husband. If a vehicle is stopped... parked... not moving.... even if in the center of the road.... and you crash into it.... your fault. Her husband slammed into the truck... his fault...driving too fast... couldn't stop in time nor swerve to avoid the truck. So if the truck driver offers her N250K.... she should be thankful..... he owes her nothing.... he should withdraw it. In fact...he should be the one compensated for damages to his truck....sounds heartless...but is the bitter truth.

The truck did not run over the man or run into the man.

To me the accident is the mans fault, the owner of the truck is just trying to play his part. She should accept the money.

The husband could have been drunk you never can say. Because in Nigeria you can't question any law enforcement agent.

Sorry to everyone here who might share a different opinion. I had to go back to the post to read over again. From what I can see the truck man is just being human here, cos that truck has been abondon. Probability parked by the road side before he ran into it.

You are only right if the abandoned truck had a hazard warning sign several feet away from the abandoned truck! since this is Nigeria we are talking about where niggers never do anything right, i would be inclined to say this was likely not the case!

Is that the law?...is the law that the truck must have reflectors?... and then it comes down to the biggest problem..... enforcement. Is it legal to have an abandoned vehicle on the roadway?.... if not... then it is the responsibility of the authorities to ensure the hazard is removed. Sadly... too many laws that can prevent accidents are not enforced.

as much as this is an unfortunate accident, what exactly is she expecting?! the insurance will pay her IN DUE TIME. the biz owner does NOT have to pay her anything (so IMHO, the offer of 250k is very very generous).

How did he drive into an abandoned truck, is he high on something?. Remember that is what killed Dagrin. He must be high and driving.

I always think that they deserve every evil that befalls them one way or the other.

People should be advised to be extra vigilant when driving on our roads most especially at night, over speeding, not concentrating, under the influence and other distractions are major cause of accidents. Running into an abandoned vehicle on our roads is common and drivers running into them will have themselves to blame because they faill the defensive driving test
