I am so much in support of the single digit interest loan. However, my major concern is the criterium that would used in selecting loan applicants, because 'who you know' is the order of the day in this part of the world.
Thank you. Some people will dominate it at the end of the day and it will barely go round. Add the stringent and almost impossible collateral they demand and you see why it remains a highly inaccessible load.

A mindset like this makes opportunity fly past your head. Why not keep this opinion to yourself than try to infect others with pessimism which is an anti-development mindset?? If you are gonna be stuck in life, do that, there are kids that visit this forum that constant negative reactions like this may shape their world view wrongly! STOP!!!

Next level interest loans...

Single digit loans could be 9.9999999% undecided

Putting money in Nigeria's bank is also risky grin

With BVN, etc., there is still risk in putting money in bank grin

This is misleading and incoherent, single digit interest loan isn't specific, spell it out, what the actual pay back interest rates on the loan, and even if the interest rate was gonna be reasonable, these mofos will end up giving out this loans to family and friends, placing a bottle neck on it for common creative industry who would have used it to turn things around economically... embarassed

What mindset? Someone like you would hurriedly pick a loan of 24% to finance a short term transaction. Talk of mister development.

Such ignorance! It says single digit! Can you read or are you just willingly obtuse? Such arrogance combined with pessimism is the perfect recipe for failure in life.

I would advice that the security agents keep an eye on this one, they usually end up the way of the Dubai Robbers thinking everything legit is a scam and everyone in the world is out to get them.

Cancer to the society!

So concealing the truth makes it any better, Are u not in this country wen opportunities like this come and common man never benefited from before ? I am a realist, I don't romance the truth, I say it the way it is, until the people that calls themselves our leaders begins to change the narratives, if not, then Nigeria is sitting on a keg of gun powder. It's not 'the truth' or false when you haven't proven it to be either. It's an information that needs action or inaction. You haven't even tried to apply for this to see if it works or not, you automatically dismiss it because some other information in the past have proven to be wrong.

It's akin to a guy dismissing all girls as cheaters and refusing to be in any relationship till his death because some girls in the past cheated on him. People fail woefully with this mindset, they get stuck in a loophole of defeatism and watch opportunities fly pass their heads constantly.

If you wanna be stuck, do it but dishing out constant negativity to other users is selfish and irresponsible. STOP IT!!!

If this very program is only what u plan to make life and opportunity out of, then u have planed to fail woefully....I ain't discouraging no one buying into the idea, i never in my entire life hoped on any government policy to make life out of, If u are waiting on Nigeria Government to come up with a favorable plan that will propel u to where u intend to be in life, then u have planned to fail... Be proactive and be self reliance, if dangote waited for government policy and program, he might still be in katsina state farming sugar cane, if bill gate waited for government policy and program to make life out of then he might still be driving delivery van at KFC or pizza delivering... Good on you. Shifting arguments every single mention like a shameless shapeshifter. First it was 'i am a realist' (i'm sure you don't even know the meaning and essence of the word), Now it's 'if you depend on government blablabla' (I'm not even in the country, needless say depend on government loans).

I wouldn't be where I am today if I was a negative thinker like you (and for the grace of Almighty God). Different people see opportunities in different scenarios and the fact that you don't see it with the government doesn't mean others wont succeed if they try. Trying to instill your fears and insecurities into everyone else by being constantly negative is what I stand vehemently against! You can drown and sink ALONE with your mind, it doesn't bother me a bit

The fact that you even cited Dangote and bill gate as examples of self-sufficient, Non-government-intervention success stories just makes me realise you are nothing but an ignoramus with absolutely no idea how the real world works.

Go get an education and stop spreading negativity!

Nah.. A realist knows better than to make dumb assumptions. Single digit can range from 1-9% which is by far better off to the commercial rate which is generally above 20% for MSMEs. This is called progress and anyone who fails to see that definitely has more problems than he/she is aware of. Tremendous success has been recorded from similar intervention schemes like Anchor Borrowers Program, RSSF and co. The major challenge is that most of these funds are undersubscribed as most Nigerian youth are either too lazy to try or lack adequate knowledge on how to access these funds.

My little advise, instead of cooking up conspiracy theories, start working on business plans, feasibility studies, business proposals, make enquiries on how to access such funds and don't be casual about it. Ever wondered why the rich keep getting richer, it's because they know where the money is and they know how to get it. Enough of playing the victim, you can't achieve success by simply blaming successful people.

One more thing, work on your grammer!

.
.
the interest rate is high because inflation is high.
in economics, interest rate cannot be lower than inflation, else there will be too much money in circulation which will in-turn lead to higher inflation (no one will put money into the bank when the rate is lower) . the key however is that inflation rate and interest rate must be close.
in economics, according to Philips's curve, the higher the inflation , the lower the level of unemployment.its a vicious circle,
things to do:
we need to be an exporting country not an importing country;that means we need to be productive.
cut out corruption. corruption is money got from no productivity. means more money will chase fewer goods. it will lead to inflation.
provide standard workable amenities.
on the sides, encourage tourism.

if we can do this 3 things.
it would improve our foreign exchange rate. i mean the naira to dollar could go for N1 to $1.
what this simply means is that more people would be coming into our country and more goods going out.

I know some economics grin

I do understand that the commercial lending rate must be higher than the inflating rate. That real interest rates must be positive.

But why is inflation in Nigeria so high? The budget deficit is barely 2% of GDP despite Buhari's love of borrowing? With such low deficits, inflation should easily be in single digits.

The reason lies with what the economist Henry Boyo calls the Naira Subsitution policy.

Every month, the FG pays out monthly allocation to the 3 tiers of government. A lot of this money is earned in dollars from crude oil sales.

The money is paid out in Naira and when this happens, there is immediately excess money in the system and government uses high yielding treasury bills to mop up the excess.

So let's say the government wants to share $2b earned. The government converts it at the official rate of 305 which is 610billion. This floods the system.

Or let's say the price of crude rises and there's $4b to be shared. That means 1.2trillion will flood the system.

Henry Boyo suggested that rather than pay out in Naira, pay out in dollar certificates that will be redeemable in commercial banks in Naira.

So, now it will be a case of dollars chasing the Naira and better still, rather than increasing inflationary pressure, it does the opposite.

The Naira will not only strengthen but most importantly, with inflationary pressure down and no excess money, the CBN can begin to relax it's tight monetary policies and the high yielding treasury bills used to mop the hitherto excess money will now begin a decline to single digit rates. Lending rates will eventually be reduced to single digits.

Is this far fetched? No.

Charles Soludo when he was CBN governor tried to implement the policy. He was however frustrated by the governors who cried out to YarAdua that they don't understand it. Remember they will be given dollar certificates and not actually dollars. He sided with them and scuttled it.

Soludo did not have the ears of YarAdua the way he had of OBJ.

If lending rates can drop to single digits, this country will be unrecognisable in 10years. There will be an investment boom and a productivity boom. The manufacturing sector may triple or even quadruple in size. There will also be a property boom as the middle class can now take mortgages in single digits rates.

There will be an export boom because the local market will become small for expanding manufacturers and the only natural way to go is export.
