How can someone be confidently ignorant and stupid at the same timehuh

Why turn this into a Yoruba - Igbo banter? Try and grow some sense.
You are the first to mention Yoruba and Igbo on this thread! Why can't someone air his opinion without attaching where he comes from? The guy might not even be Yoruba.

Okonjo is not the only qualified person for that role, stop getting emotional.

Besides, u don't just sit down n expect to get handed the world Bank president because u r brilliant n r a woman

As minister of d economy (not just finance), she oversaw d massive looting of our wealth that later plunged d country into recession. U really think d world is not watching?

Yes. Nigeria has a way of making brilliant people look dull but okonjo didn't do much to turn d tide. I guess blaming d system was easier for her.

US has is d world largest economy. The number of millionaires in US is more than d entire population of Norway n Sweden combined. So what if they produce both World Bank n IMF president?
You never talk wetin be ur problems.

It's not partiality. The US contributes more to the World Bank than any other country. Japan even has more credence to the position than African nations. He who pays the piper dictates the tune. The solution is for African nations to utilise their resources well and forge ahead instead of blaming others. An instance is the Asian Development Bank which has had ALL its presidents to be Japanese. Why? She contributes the most. The Chinese knowing fully well that she has literally no say created her own bank - AIIB - Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank. But before she did so, she created wealth for her citizens and most importantly, constant electricity supply which some folks cannot provide after nearly 60 years of independence!
Gbam, the folks you referred to in your post that couldn't provide electricity for her citizens is Nigeria, the headquarters of poverty in the world and also the 6th most miserable country on earth cool

My opinion is my business!
Keep quiet, silly ignorant. How can someone get the job , she didn't apply for . As of March, 2019, when the application for the post was about to close, Okonjo ,Okonjo came out live on CNN to announce she wasn't interested in the post. You are here exhibiting your ignorance why she wasn't given the position on a platter of gold

Shut up and take your afonja local politics to your village.

The reason she lost was not because she was not the most qualified.
That is not in question. She sits on the board of nearly 40 global companies, some of them with revenues bigger than Nigeria.

She lost due to international geo politics. Even malpass was reluctantly elected due to his controversial nature and shallow qualifications.

I am sure this is beyond your level, so don't bother.
She didn't apply for the position in the first place. She was live on CNN , March 2019, when the application was about few days to close. She made it known, she was not applying on the live CNN interview

When more qualified Okonjo-Iweala was denied the position of world bank president for America's Jim Yong Kim, I then realized that talents are evenly distributed but opportunities are not.

Analysts explained that the position of World Bank head is traditionally meant for Americans while that of the IMF is for the Europeans. Well, other continents are just special observers grin

Indeed, coming from certain countries gives someone an automatic privilege others could only wish they could have.

Congratulations to the new world Bank president
If it's true, then that's very good, they must have seen how she allowed massive looting during her time as a minister for Nigeria. That's why she didn't even apply in d first place so she won't embarrassed herself

Nigga, stop fooling around. Donald Trump's nominated the guy. Go n vent your frustrations on Buhari who didn't nominate Okonjogrin

Bunch of jokers. U think this is Fulani headsmen politics.
Most of you are products of half-baked education. It's not the duty of a President to nominate a candidate first for the position. The person or the candidate will have to show interest and apply for the position first thereafter the President or his country can then lobby other countries. In Okonjo Iwela case. She was live on CNN ,March 2019. When she made it known, that she wasn't applying for the position. How on earth, do you now want her to get the post she didn't apply for. Most of you will just come on social media to exhibit una ignorance

Ouch....you don't need to give us that painful upper cut abeg, both leaders & Majority of citizens are super corrupt, no iota of patriotism. The remaining few that even see the problem are way too small in number to do anything, immediately they attempt, both the cabal, political elites & citizens pull them down.

Just by being honest & hard working in any government institutions or company for Nigeria, Your colleague will sideline you, possible get you fired or even kill you for doing ur job correctly as you will block thier chances of corrupt practices.

Nigerians always wail over everything!!! Some are wailing why Ngozi was not given the position what is Ngozi's country contribution to the world bank. Some of you need to understand how life works and disturbing wailing over everything. Again even if she is qualified and not given the position it is not enough to wail.

Humans are political animals and there is politics in every human institutions even in your family, but some are confused to even realize. Nothing is ever enough to get to where you are going in life. You have to work hard, smart and be consistent but still they do not guarantee success. What guarantee success? Nothing!!!

Why do most people hand over their company to their children, is it because they are the best for the job? The wise ones know the answer to this.

Stop wailing and blaming others for your woes get your country fixed so can be respected. The life is not fair to anybody.

6Ebisco:
The World Bank Executive Directors has on Friday chosen David Malpass as President of the World Bank Group for a five-year term, beginning on Tuesday, April 9.

The World Bank in a press release published on its website, said the appointment followed a transparent nomination process where any national of the Bank’s membership could be proposed by any Executive Director or Governor.

“The Board looks forward to working with Malpass on the implementation of the Forward Look and the Capital Package Agreement as articulated in the Sustainable Financing for Sustainable Development Paper,” the bank said.

The World Bank President is Chair of the Boards of Directors of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the International Development Association (IDA).

The President is also ex-officio Chair of the Boards of Directors of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), and the Administrative Council of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).

Malpass previously served as Under Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs for the U.S.

As Under Secretary, Malpass represented the United States in international settings, including the G-7 and G-20 Deputy Finance Ministerial, World Bank-IMF Spring and Annual Meetings of the World Bank.

He also played a role in several major World Bank Group reforms and initiatives.

He was also instrumental in advancing the Debt Transparency Initiative, adopted by the World Bank and IMF, to increase public disclosure of debt and thereby reducing the frequency and severity of debt crises.

Prior to becoming Under Secretary, Malpass was an international economist and founder of a macroeconomics research firm based in New York City.

Earlier in his career, Malpass served as the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Developing Nations and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Latin American Economic Affairs.

In these roles, he focused on an array of economic, budget, and foreign policy issues, such as the U.S involvement in multilateral institutions, including the World Bank.

Malpass had served on the boards of the Council of the Americas, Economic Club of New York, and the National Committee on U.S–China Relations.

He earned his bachelor’s degree from Colorado College and his MBA from the University of Denver.

He undertook advanced graduate work in international economics at the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. (NAN)

No kobo. So many people are just obsessed about wanting to be the first person to comment on as much as possible topics on the forum even when their comment is senseless and does not address the issues in the topic.
