Some of you may have read my grant testimony on the other thread, so I will skip that part. I worked as an Auditor with a Big4 in Naija, got my grant and applied to other Big 4 firms in Australia. I did interviews but they were taking too much time to get back to me. During one of my late night browsing I realised I could actually work in New Zealand with my Australian PR.

I spoke with a colleague recently who went on holiday to NZ some days back. She told me its a really beautiful place and right now that is my next holiday spot by Gods grace.

Meanwhile e be like say na Fatima shop you go abi.My displeasure with this our African shops is the pricing system(more like lack of it).

They can sell same item to 3 different people at different prices.I feel cheated anytime i shop cos im never sure i am getting the best deal. But as per no choice na,i still patronise them.

I can add you or anyone else who is interested in joining our melboune whats app group.

Do one put referees:available on request in Australian CV just like we use on our Nigeria CV or we need to list the name of referees.

The issue of referee on a CV is liberal. You can either put it or use available on request. It also depends on where you applying. Some recruiters will ask for it at the point of application while others may not care until after interview and you are being considered for the position.

Referees are only needed when you are being considered for the position.

I applied to the same firm in Wellington and got the job. They paid for my flight from Naija and 3 weeks hotel stay. So I was lucky to arrive with a job. I lived in New Zealand for a year and I tell you, I loved it. I had this white lady who was my relocation agent, her husband was a professor in the university and had been to Nigeria a few times, she introduced me to her husband who introduced me to one of his Nigerian PhD students. They became my New Zeland family and would always invite me over for lunch and dinner. Kiwi's are really nice and welcoming. Those days I'll be walking on the street and see a black person, we must acknowledge each other oh (lol). New Zealand is also beautiful, rented a car one time and went on a road trip with a colleague to the south island, it really was a good trip. Anyways after a year in NZ I felt it was time to move back to Australia. I wanted to move to Australia cos;
1. I want to get the passport and any time away was not counting for me. Though I could have lived in NZ and gotten NZ passport but Australia is the bigger of the two countries.

2. I felt NZ is far, I know it's really no different from Australia but as a single guy, I felt Australia would be better.

3. Australian economy is better, though at the moment the NZD/AUD is 0.95 so not much difference but I know for sure that you earn more in Australia for similar jobs in New Zealand. Australia also has the highest minimum wage in the world (I stand to be corrected).

4. My brother lives there, I thought I might as well be close to family.

I just want to say to anyone who is already living in Australia or coming from Naija. Mehn, apply for jobs in NZ, you just might be lucky. I met people while in NZ who also got jobs from Naija, so don't write it off. Also if I had a family, I definitely would have stayed back in NZ, in my opinion it has a more wholesome feel and good for raising a family which might be better than Australia. Next time I will share my "settling in" story for Australia (moved to Melbourne 6 months ago), stay tuned

Oh by the way I went shopping for Nigerian stuff I Melbourne a few weeks ago. I walked out looking at my tiny bag with items that cost me about a hundred bucks, lol (see receipt for items bought, don't ask me what I cancelled ‍♂️)

P.S. excuse my typos

For PR, not yet as you don't have any experience. Maybe via study visa.

Sir, please i am a civil engineer with 4years post graduation work experience (Nysc inclusive) is it true that i may not be able to apply for PR using the Engineer tag because of low years of experience? Is it better i apply as a Civil Engineer draftperson or technician?

Greetings everyone,

I just want to know the best way to renew naija passport here as mine is about to expire. Do we have to just go to Canberra or is there a way to pre-apply? And what documents asides the old passport would be required.

Thanks

Got slapped $403 fine and 3 demerits points for driving 0.9 secs through a red light. I never knew driving through a red light incurred so much penalty.
Was rushing to pick up my kids.

Penny wise, Pound foolish. huh? grin grin

Yes, it does.

Usually once the light turns yellow, I slow down & let it turn to red then wait until it turns back to green before I move...

Usually some drivers speed up once the light turns yellow but the end up driving through a red light...

There are usually cameras at every stop light to catch drivers who tend to drive through red lights...

They usually receive a ticket in the mailbox & either have to pay a fine OR show up in court...

My Dad got one of those ticket once for running through a red light...

He paid about $300...

Plus he was forced to take additional driver classes to avoid accumulating points on his Drivers licenses...

Usually your insurance premiums go up as you accumulate points & if you keep accumulating points then your drivers license gets suspended by the Department of Motor Vehicles...

Usually very difficult to reinstate your drivers license once it gets suspended...

No I have not paid it.

It is my first ticket.

Send an email to the address included in the ticket. Explain what happened, try to give a convincing reason on why you had to move at the time after ensuring there was no car in the way. In the letter, admit that you committed the offence but it was due to the unavoidable situation. Tell them it is your first offence and plead that they convert it to a caution.

I did it before for Vicpolice and it was Changed to a caution. You could be lucky too. Don't pay until you get their response because once you pay or enter a payment plan, it can't be changed.

Goodluck.
