Hello petlanders, i so much need your advice on this..
My female, Freya is on heat and i need to mate her asap..
But, the only Better dog i have seen so far is a slant back.

You should put into consideration, other factors like temperament and perhaps things that your bitch lack that you would want the progenies to have- such that the breeding is complimentary.
That should help you narrow your choice.

I think you should breed her with a straight back then, the physical difference between a straight back and slant back are noticeable.... you might just end up with puppies that look like they have leg deformities then you'll have to be explaining to buyers that they are "semi-slant back".
Freya is a very lovely dog don't mix her genes and create inferior puppies, breed her with a straight back so the standard will still be there

The problem is the straights i have seen so far in Ilorin...
Are inferior.
And time isnt on my side.

I really see where You’re coming from bruv but then it isn’t important to note that the breed standard remains thesame both for the showline and the working line, and there’s really no in-between I.e semi slant.
That’s just a sales cliche.

As you’ve rightly said, maintaining breed standard is the ultimate goal.
I’ll urge Freya’s owner to look at many pointers before Breeding to any male at all- ranging from conformation to temperament et many other clauses to be met by standard.
Bottom line is to get a male that compliments his female and corrects her faults as there’s no perfect dog.
