RichBoy247:We can always profer solutions.... We can create a small unit of federal police that can override politically motivated decisions at the state level.... Besides the state police can be made completely independent of the governors.. . The source of funding and appointment of police chiefs can be made without the governors' input. |

blindjustice13:Regional Police would be a good compromise. SW, SE, SS, NE, NC and NW. Cofunded by those states in a region. That way no single governor can hijack it. There will be regional and Federal crimes. Federal police will focus on Federal crimes and crimes perpetrated across two or more religions. We have the intelligence to formulate what will work. But political will, foresight and discipline are absent. The issue of tribal/regional supremacy and conservativism loom large too. |

In a speech to the nation on January 28, 1966, he (Head of State Major General Johnson Thomas Umunnakwe Aguiyi Ironsi(1924-1966) denounced the ills of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa regime and outlined necessary reforms. “All Nigerians”, he declared,” want an end to regionalism. Tribal loyalties and activities which promote tribal consciousness and sectional interests must give way to the urgent task of national reconstruction. The Federal Military Government will preserve Nigeria as one strong nation.” He then went on to promise “administrative reforms” and referred specifically to several matters in which regional as well as personal interests were known to have had decisive influence. Ironsi ended regional government PrecisionFx: |

Then Nigeria should not be fit to have state legislature and state judiciary. In fact, Nigeria should not attach 'Federal Republic" to its name. You cannot have all those, and claim to be "too petty" to have/run a state police. That's absolute nonsense. Unfortunately, it's regular citizens that support the nonsense. I also assume that the C in C and all his police bosses were imported from heaven. They are not Nigerians. blindjustice13: |

It takes some kind of sickness to lie with a straight face like you just did. He ended the "regional government" (according to you) and yet appointed Military Governors to administer the regional governments you claimed that he "ended". Kudos to your crap. [s] StaffofOrayan:[/s] |

pchukwudi:so let me ask you ,who will be responsible for the salaries of state police? How easy do you think it will be for a state government to control a cp who receives salary from a state government? Regular citizens know it is them that will suffer the effect most. Like I said ,I am good with any other adjustment in the constitution.Until you are able to convince people how state policing will curb crime, you have no argument here so instead of calling my opinion nonsense I suggest you bring out your points and stop ranting. |

kikake:I personally prefer regional policing as per the six geo-political regions in the country. It is large enough that no one governor has exclusive power over the police, but a smaller enough region for effective policing. |
| Re: Senator Adeyeye: 1999 Constitution Cannot Give Us Progress, Peace And Unity by Nobody: 7:10pm On Apr 11, 2019 |
StaffofOrayan:In the speech u posted, he didn't decree an end to regional govt n resource control. Under Ironsi we still had 4 regions with 4 regional leaders , he only added provinces within each region n that's all. At that point every region paid 30% of their revenue to the centre n kept 70% to develop their region, that's resource control. |

Yea, we are saying the same thing. Abolish all State Assemblies. Abolish all State Courts. It's obvious that the governors are controlling them, since they are all paid by the states. After all, the states are printing/stealing money to pay all those their judicial and legislative officers who make and interpret state laws. So, how can the state pay/control the agency that can enforce those state laws and order? Let's abolish the state structures and demote all governors to mere mayors or local chiefs so that folks like you can feel safe. blindjustice13: |
