I like to share this experience and get ur views.

So a friend had to drive this 2007 Toyota camry from asaba to lagos for a wedding. It was loaded with baggage and 5 occupants. It drove smoothly and we arrived safely. I was driving behind him in another car.

The next morning we noticed that the engine oil in the camry had dried up completely, not even a drop was left on the dip stick. I had about a litre of engine oil in my car , which we poured in with the intention to top up later.

We forgot and drove the same car from isolo to gbagada for the wedding /reception. On our way back the car stopped on the road. Becos it was late in the night we towed it home. Next morning we discovered a pinch of oil on the dip stick , so we added oil, to my surprise it started though with a noise that cleared out after a while but somehow we discovered the alternator wasn't working.

My confusion is that can a dead alternator stop a moving car on the road or did the low oil issue cause the car to overheat and then stop. Or is the camry equipped with a system that prevents engine seizure which caused the alternator to fail in order to save the engine, cos am sure we would have lost the engine had that alternator not failed.

Am just confused ....we are afraid to travel back with the car now. Becos we are sure the engine oil will dry up before we get to asaba.
failing Alternator will present symptoms more often at night. There is more electrical load at night from the headlamps and the air-conditioning, the use of a/c if engine is not tuned well can lower engine rpm resulting in poor charging. So yes the car could have gone off based on failing Alternator.

just do a standard tuneup, clean and re-gap spark plugs, replace airfilter, clean MAF with MAF cleaner only. ensure fuel pressure is optimal.
Dear GAZZUZZ like I complained to u about high fuel consumption of my avalon with no CEL.
A scan was done by a competent mech and the code P1135 Air/fuel ratio sensor was detected.
CEL is still on.
He requested I buy a new sensor but the sensor wasn't available in my area so he washed the sensor with carb and choke cleaner.

Is this the sensor responsible for my avalons outrageous fuel consumption?
Any idea on price?
What are ur advice to me?

Hello Car gurus. Pls someone should kindly enlighten me. I'm interested in a 2007 Nissan Altima but read a terrible review online about its CVT. Is the CVT really that problematic? What are the unpleasant issues about this model?

it can't be fully explained, but can be experienced. You have to buy one to understand fully.

Hello Chief gazzuzz,

Kindly advise me appropriately on this. My mechanic said I should be driving my car around without thermostat.

Let me provide some background.

My usual mechanic wasn't available, so I called Mobilemechng guys (don't know if they are on nairaland but that's their IG handle) to work on suspension issues on my car like 3 weeks ago. The mechanic they sent somehow broke a pipe at the radiator head, which leads to the engine and feigned ignorance.

I noticed the temperature going up on 3mb and pulled over. Luckily for me, I was close to Iyana Oworo already. Some guy helped push it into the bus stop and bought 4mins glue to seal it up, to at least get me home. I have always used toyota coolant but had to top it up with water that day.

The following day, they came around, glued it up some more and said it will hold. I drove it around for a few days before I saw the check engine light come up while driving. I pulled over into a filling station to check what could be wrong only to notice the car overheating again but alarmingly, the temperature knob was at the middle.

I popped out my mobile scanner to read and got one error relating to coolant temperature sensor or overheating (cant really remember if it was the P0128). Anyways, the radiator was almost empty and I noticed the leak was from the glued up joint. I patched it up and filled with water to keep me moving. The check engine light went off after the engine cooled down.

Following day, I went to my usual mechanic and he said he has to change the radiator head and I told him to do it.

The check engine light came up after a day of driving and upon scanning, I received the P0128 error code - Coolant thermostat (coolant temperature below thermostat regulating temperature). I called the mechanic and he said he forgot to tell me that he removed the thermostat. He said because of the previous overheating, the thermostat reading will affect the engine. I asked if he needed to replace it but he told me there is no need that the car will work fine.

He has always treated my car well but for some reason, I don't trust his opinion on this one.

Advise me please. its a Toyota matrix

Thank you.

For the P0128- you cooling fan is most probably running continuously, should come on & go off intermittently

Thank you sir. My doubts has bn cleared cos the YouTube video I watched showed this as babk 2 sensor 1.
On my mech's scanning device it read p1135 Air flow ratio sensor bank 1 sensor 1
So I'm wondering why he said I should replace bank 2 sensor 1 instead of bank 1 sensor 1.
The image I posted was the one asked me to replace.

Sorry for disturbing u alot sir.

Is the main battery having adequate charge?
Is the battery relay working as should?
Did the keyless fob fell into water or fell on the floor?
Hope this isn't an EIS issue?
