Cross Rivers generally has very little regard for pregnant women.

They treat them anyhow because the women are so hardworking and can cope with anything.

To all

It is sheer ignorance to blame the poor nurse without clear understanding of instruction given to them in generating government revenue.

As bad as it may sound, this scenario is obtainable everywhere in the country, hospital will admit those with money without regards to emergencies. The irony of this is that officials/Government will feign ignorance of public officials actions when the news goes public. Our media should always go deeper and investigate issues like this and not put squarely blames on public officials alone.

If Government of that state is truly for the people, they should announce and give directives to public health institutions to accept pregnant woman without money to their wards.

Because I believe no registered nurse or midwife will do this, because ithey won't want to risk their license.
Registered nurse not trained nurse or aux nurse.

Okay, i hear they have been suspended. Thats not what the law says though.

The police should be involved, there should be prosecution in this case.

1. That nurse witch endangered two lives, mother and baby.

2. She flouted the law by denying medical service to a citizen in distress.

3. She used weapon on a defenseless person.

4. Battered a pregnant woman and put her and baby at risk.

She should face jail time.
Don't worry, first step is suspension while they continue to investigate. She will wish she didn't act so stiipit by the time the law is melted out on her. Whew!

I think it's likely Community health extension worker CHEW since they describe the place as a primary health centre.

ChangeIsCostant:
Some hospital staff have been suspended over alleged gross misconduct and negligence towards a patient in Calabar, Cross River state. It was gathered that on Friday evening, a pregnant woman in labor was brought to PHC Mayne Avenue.

Rather than hospital workers helping her into the labor room, they demanded for N20,000 for surgery and allegedly pushed the woman out of the facility when she didn't pay despite her pain. It was alleged that a trained nurse named Eme Bassey used mop stick to beat the woman, claiming that she bit her hand with her teeth..

The pregnant woman went to the grass in front of the facility where she struggled on her own to deliver her baby and was aided by a member of the community and other passer by. When finally the woman put to birth, the youths in the community went into the health facility to move the said nurse out to ensure she assisted the woman. It was then she reluctantly came out to help the woman deliver her placenta and finally let her into the facility.

The Director General of Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Betta Edu when called, arrived the facility in complete shock that women could give such treatment to a fellow woman.

The DG, with immediate effect suspended all the staff involved and the PHC coordinator who supervises then. All staff involved are to face disciplinary committee and night face tough sanctions including dismissal if the board so decides.

Why beat her? that's unfair. However, she had 9 months to plan and solicit for funds to cover medical bills. I feel pity for the poor child being born into poverty, quite sad
