For the record, any developing country not close to 9% or even double digits (as China was for the best part of 2 decades) is doing disastrously. Underdeveloped countries are coming from a very low baseline of development, so should not be competing with the low single-digit growth rate of advanced nations. 2 Likes 1 Share |

chibuzorAbia:Dude....in the real world, all sorts of externalities can affect a developing nation's economic growth rate for good or for ill. Most developing nations depend on commodity exports for revenue, and when prices crash, it has repercussions. For example, Nigeria witnessed a sharp drop in GDP after the oil price crash of 2015. Conversely, Ghana's recent oil discovery and buoyant sales of the product, contributes in part to its faster economic growth. Some countries are also faster than others in economic diversification, which is the panacea for commodity--based economies. That disparity has to do with internal factors in each country, including their internal and external political influences. But all of them are on a path to diversification, so theoretically they should get there in the end. |
