Sakamaje:donkey meat is usually consumed by the easterners, forbidden to eat in Islam, it is a work animal in Islam. they come here in the north to buy the animal some as low as 40,000 especially from anambra state, I have many igbo friends from anambra , the sellers are happy cuz its just a work animal . |

all parts of the donkey are extremely expensive in far-east asia now, due to the potency of trado-medicines over there. the rate at which its skin and oil is used now, without donkey farming, the poor animal will face extintion in less than 20 years time, especially in Africa. |

There is a lot of ignorance on this thread. Chinese demand for donkey skin for the production of their traditional and herbal supplements explains the existence of that donkey "ranch". Chinese demand for Donkey is enormous to the extent that a number of African countries have banned it's export to China fearing a disastrous decline in domestic donkey populations. Don't be deceived about donkey meat consumption in the East. A few people may, but that's not the reason there is a spike in demand for donkeys in the North from the East. Igbo business guys have keyed into the Chinese market to supply them as supplies from other African countries have fallen. It is a pity that the Nigerian government is not even understanding what is driving the new trend nor its implications. Worse of, ignorant nairalanders are here chasing irrelevant narratives.
