Pls house, is it okay for someone with NEBOSH igc certificate to go for IOSH managing safely training?

That's a waste, IOSH managing Safely is for individuals who would not be directly involved in the daily OHS activities like Managers, Supervisors, Foremen, Directors (Directing Safely exists for these group of individuals as well).

Hello,
I just received my NEBOSH results and I qualified with a pass. Is a pass good for anything? should I resist? I’m really confused, please reply as soon as you can.
Thank you

NEBOSH does not indicate your grades on your certificates when you do receive them...except you have a referral which means you don't get a certificate for any of the units that's got a referral.

Those with distinctions get 5 certificates One of which indicates the distinction.

I'm a graduate of psychology and about to undergo hse training.. I hope my discipline won't be a stumbling block

That is one of the best courses to have an abecedarian knowledge from and it is essential to interacting with individuals of varying capacities and backgrounds when it comes to their safety and well-being.

Hello all. I am a fresh graduate who is about to go for service soon. I have heard about HSE and had interest in the field right from my 100 level days. Now, I need advice. Based on the 3 specialties; Health, safety and environment, which is sought after the most in terms of job opportunities?
Also, NISP or NEBOSH which will you advice I go for? Or any other accredited body rendering the certificates. Am a graduate of soil science and land management, will I need to go for level 1 or just start from level 2? Lastly, what is the salary structure like for an entry level safety officer/or professional?.

Just seeing this now, NISP/ISPON is a cheap and effective way of getting your Health and Safety competence up to the level commiserate with most oil company requirements in Nigeria. I cut my teeth on OHS via the ISPON/NISP route before progressing to other OHS courses and certifications.

Points to note
ISPON Level course can only be used within the confines of Nigeria though they've got MOUs with other awarding/certifying bodies.

NEBOSH is a much more sought after qualification and is recognised by 97% of employers worldwide.

Due to the dearth in OHS legislations in Nigeria the foremost of which is the Factories Act of 1987, whilst the UK has got 200+ safety related legislations. It makes the NEBOSH the defacto qualification anywhere in the world.

try hotnigerianjobs...but as an advise I'd rather you pursued your dreams than entering Safety due to hunger. There is so much at stake to just venture into it out of necessity.

I have a potpourri of qualifications mostly in Data Visualisation and a NEBOSH IGC, NISP, OJTs and the others are not relevant to safety as such.

They are a questionable lot, you are better off doing ISPON Courses... The real world safety organisation is the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

Between Novelle center and ISPON, which is better for one that wants to undergo HSE training?

Novelle is an occupational health and safety training center whilst ISPON is an Institute with own courses and recognised membership.

Very correct Sir. HSE is in multi-industrial domains. Not just the oil sector.
The reason why people prefer the Oil and Gas Domain is because of the higher pay, especially if one is employed directly as a full staff to any of the Exploration and Production International Oil Companies. Besides the pay, the experience is also worth it.

There is HSE in Aviation/Air Transport, Agriculture, Oil and Gas, Power and Energy, Road/Road Transport (Road Safety), Marine (Boats, ships-vessels in various waters), Military (yes, you heard me), Building, School, Playground and Parks, Public (Public Safety and Health), etc. etc. In fact there is safety of anything that can cause us harm!

It is why the curriculum nowadays, is to develop techniques and skills and approaches, that you can apply in multi industrial domains. It is the reason why ISO31000 is being looked at and professionals are trying to make it suitable for (possibly) all countries of the world to adopt in Managing and Engineering HSE Risks.

When I did my MSc. In Safety Engineering (actually called "MSc. Risk Engineering: HSE Engineering and Management" or RE-SEAM), we were used to pilot this management and engineering techniques to the multiindustrial domain approach. I can practise safety engineering in a Probabilistic approach (e.g. Aviation) or in a Deterministic approach e.g Oil and Gas, depending on the sector I find myself.

Presently the Oil and Gas sector is migrating to the Probailistic approach due to the implementation of RBI Programs (Risk Based Inspection) for Asset Integrity Management (AIM).

It is this wholistic approach, the techniques and technical/engineering processes (drawings, calculations, designing etc.) that will be quite interesting to see taught in Nigeria someday at such an advanced level. I want to see where HSE professionals will not only do "Spot the Hazard" or "Slips Trips and Falls" or filling out work permits. I want to see them do prevention through design, human factor and ergonomics, functional safety IEC 61508 and 61511, dropped objects calculations, chemical process safety control, chemical reaction risk analyses, etc.

Hello, pls I need your candid advise.. I am. A HSE manager in one of the fmcg food and beverage company. I'm caught up between enrolling for iso9001 or iso 45001.

As a hse manager, which on the certification is gonna make me sellable since they use the same framework.

Can it be easy to do a QMS Even as a hse personnel?

QMS (9001)deals with quality management; how you carry out processes at work to maintain the best possible quality of product and services for your clients.

HSEMS (45001)Deals with the processes involved in making sure you comply with OHS best practices whilst keeping your business, workers and concerned parties safe.

For FMCG you need to include HACCP as part of your qualifications in the event you'd want to continues on that career path.

Im. Open to any sector nt just fmcg, but the iso 9001 can i do it instead of 45001 since organisation pursue 9001 certification most times... I really need some guide on this...

Organisations go for 9001 to signal to their clients that they are quality conscious whilst 45001 shows they are following or would follow health and safety best practices.

For a HSE practitioner I'd say a 45001 is best as most organisation hand off their QMS to non-safety departments.

Ok but i most organisation also integrates Quality and HSE making Qhse and i see most safety practioners bieng QHSE practioners... Wats the rational behind this?

It simply means they oversee their company's Quality Management System...others have qualifications from the The Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) as a bulwark and as their continuous professional development.

So what do you advise me... I want to also have some sense of quality but still not an ohs auditor....? Qms is more broad than 45001... So confused right now.. Cos i feel 45001 doesn't sell and organisation's don't pursue it... They pursue QMS thus a hse professional with 9001 would practically sell better than one without or with 45001...i guess I'm right on this?

It could be centered on just your organisation...45001 is a must have whilst a 9001 is a 'good to have' for OHS practitioners.

As an OHS Practitioner I'd say get a 45001 up to lead auditor level as anything else may not be effective if you're looking to search for a job with it.

Does having QMS give an edge over Pure HSE practitioner.. Like in the case, organization needs Qhse. Practitioner?
