iammo:Zombie you forgot to add that most of those debts especially US' are held by their citizens and inter-dept'al debts. It simply means, payment would be retained within their economy. Most of those countries borrowed to mop up excess liquidity from their citizens unlike Nigeria that borrows externally for recurrent purposes. You also forgot to mention that all those country are heavily export driven unlike Nigeria that imports virtually everything. Those countries won't have problem raising enough FX to offset their external debt without mounting pressures on the foreign sector. For us, servicing our debt will mount pressure on our foreign sector and this would likely mount inflationary pressure because of limited FX. |

erico2k2: Well i will speak on the aspect of the loans i know of, which are: $500m airport rehabilitation of Enugu,Lagos,Kano,Abuja,Portharcout. Abuja and PH have been delivered, ... China/Nexim bank loan; Abuja-kaduna, Abuja metro, Itape-Warri (critical for ajaokuta to get coal from warri port) Lagos-Ibadan-Abeokuta standard guage, Counterpart funding of 2nd Niger bridge PPP construction.. out of the ones i can remember. A major part of our national defense budget goes into buying opreational vehicles, if this 1billion is used to set up their own vehicle plants.. it would save us cost in the long run. . |

ChristianNorth: Wow a PDP piglet with actual brain... Any ways As of October 2018, foreigners owned $6.2 trillion of U.S. debt, or approximately 39 percent of the debt held by the public of $16.1 trillion and 28 percent of the total debt of $21.8 trillion. The U.S. debt to China Alone is $1.13 trillion as of February 2019. So don't try to sweet talk the fact that US is the country with the Highest foreign debt in the world. APC/Buhari are spending on Economic viable projects that can easily recoup the loan, good infrastructure simply means more people would spend locally on local made goods, since there would be electricity for production and train for cheaper logistics, this simply means that less pressure on our forex as demand for foreign goods would greatly reduce. |

Its a shame that after 4 years under a Rtd Gen, someone once aclaimed to have ended the Matasie movement, the country is still spending trillions on insurgency. Fellow Nigerians, Insurgency and its effects (IDP camps) is a white elephant project for those in power. #ifyouknow, you know |

KidsNEXTdoor: If u carefully read through you'll observe that they are not taking and external loan. In the banking industry, we call it cash back. This is a case where you borrow money from your self (ur own savings) to repay it with an interest. |

iammo:How can we set up our own plant? what do we manufacture as a nation? we are still going to import all the parts, should that not be left with the people already in that business to do? The British and American Govt do not have any company manufacturing arms for them rather they buy from private companies ie BAE systems. |

Xisnin: If not foolishness you would understand i am not saying we are competing, just letting Dunce like you know Nigerias Credit score and capacity to borrow in ratio to our Oil backed GDP is 24% compared to others.... If we borrow to fix refineries, Power plants, Dams, Railways, Ajaokuta steel plant, etc we can recoup the money back within a decade as we have the population to work . But you negative thinkers who dont know how credit system works in civilised countries comment blindly |

AutoJoshNG:^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^ Proforce Defence Limited in Ogun State which was founded by Adetokunbo Ogundeyin can do this manufacturing for them. Proforce has supplied the Nigerian Military with several APCs and Anti Tank mine vehicles and also foreign countries have purchased Proforce hardware! All over the world... it is mainly the private sector that does these kinds of military hardware manufacturing. The military should focus more on the fighting aspect of operations with some minor military research work to produce small light weapons and drones. Period.
