The Police Command in Osun State has narrated the shooting incident involving the convoy of Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola.

The former Governor’s motorcade was attacked on Monday by hoodlums at Orisumbare/MFS Road in Osogbo, the capital.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Yemisi Opalola, said that it was some of the minister’s escorts that opened fire without provocation.

The spokesperson noted that the episode occurred at about 5.40pm as NSCDC, Correctional Service, Immigration personnel escorted Aregbesola.

Some “unidentified armed people suspected to be political thugs were with the convoy.

“Suddenly, some of the security escorts of the minister started shooting sporadically into the air without any provocation nor attack, thereby causing members of the public to scramble for their safety,”
she added.

The police confirmed that thirteen empty shells of G-3, assault and AK-37 rifles were recovered along the road after the minister’s departure.

Noting that no one died, the PRO said a full report would be made available at the end of investigation.

Factional Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abiodun Agboola, earlier said the minister was attacked by political thugs while coming from Ilesa.

“Today’s attempt on the life of the minister is a confirmation that Osun is no longer a safe State”, Agboola declared.

It doesn't surprise me...what surprises me is that they stopped shooting at some point cos I expected them to continue shooting until the world ends. We have Useless politicians and security agents in excess in Nigeria.

These people we can leaders don't live by examples at all. That is what happens when you av negative mind towards people around you, thinking everyone is meant to harm you not knowing it's what you sow that you will reap. 'Do good' if you do good, good will follow you. This coming election ehn, only grace of God is all we need cos all they think is just abt themselves alone.

"Former Osun Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola on Monday, invaded Osogbo, the Osun capital with armed thugs and NSCDC personnel, who were shooting sporadically and in the process two persons were alleged to have been shot dead.

Trouble started when Aregbesola was said to have brought out his head from an open roof, as though he was running for election and the shout of “ole, ole, “ rented the air.

Anger by the attitude of some of the residents, the interior minister was said to have ordered his thugs and the NSCDC personnel attached to him to open fire. It was in the process that two persons were said to have been shot dead.

As at the time of filing this report, the identities of those who were allegedly fell by the bullets are yet to be ascertained.

It will be recalled that last year, a right group had petitioned the Presidency over the misuse of NSCDC personnel by the Interior minister to harass and intimidate perceived political enemies".

How the same Aregbe who still controls part of Lagos, Alimosho precisely and some other areas, want to be the godfather abi defacto governor in Osun State as well.

I am not a fan of Oyetola but he is the governor for now so let him be.

Aregbe should be ready to be disgraced as it is, his stronghold on part of Lagos with his oga is coming to an end soon.
