Hello mothers.

Please I need help.

My kids are too active, too hyper active. Never seen such busy kids!

One is 5 and the other is going to be 3, it's being crazy.

We always cause a scene whenever we go out. From running away and me running after them to so many other things. Car almost ran into one of them some weeks ago. I felt weak, someone even insulted me and looked at me disgustingly cos of it, like i wasn't watchful or stupid not to put them to caution.

Once i pack they are ready to jump out of the car and begin to run. People say i dont allow rhem to go out, where dem wan go? Afterall they go to school.

My hubby is pisssd and am stressed over this attitude of theirs. I can't sit beside them, my 3 years old will turn my body to her play ground. I lock myself in my room 70% of the time. They hadly take a nap.

How do engage them properly? For now it's tv or playing with toils (which they dont fancy that much), i buy different toils and they get tired easily with them.

Am thinking of stopping oat for them, they take oat almost monday to friday before leaving for school. Could oat be the cause?

I don't want to start beating them so they wont get used to it and become stubborn.

Am seriously thinking of resigning my job, get a shop where they come to every day after school. Let them begin to go out now since them say I no dey allow them go out. Whenever we go out they become weird.
I learnt from this forum,to let them play out, engage in house chores, play with them, even if it's few minutes, this stage will pass and pre teen another set of challenges.

Hello moms
My 10 months old has been showing symptoms of itchy ears especially the left one.
Was asked to prevent water entering ear, I try, I have to wash hair daily as his hair is full. I tried cotton buds he removes it when bathing, it's been itching him since 3 months and we have been on ear drops. What remedies do you moms suggest pls as he starts crying each time it itches

1. You don't actually have to wash his hair every day. Every 2 days is just fine. Run water through the hair and comb immediately out of that bathroom

2. If you have to then you may want to buy a wash cap.
I had some in stock last week but I'm not sure I have them again. I'll attach a picture. It helps to protect the eyes, nose, mouth and even ears when washing hair with shampoo or soap. It is N500

3. You can decide to wash the hair the way I wash my baby's hair. Lay the child acroos your laps with face up and gently pour water from front to back. Distract baby by singing or making funny noises.
I don't like face down cos sometimes the water overwhelms them and they gasp for breath.

we use this wash cap on wash days..
it makes it so so easy for kids who don't enjoy washing

Be like the annual masquerade that comes out once in a year.
Next time they misbehave at home ó, beat them talk to them well especially the older one because the younger one emulates him. You can even spare the younger one sef.
And haller for them.
I'm not advocating every minute beating ó. It has to be a controlled kind.

All you'll need is reminders henceforth.
Shey you want to start? Where's my cane?!
And you'll see them comport.

I'll tell you as it is. You have a lot of work to do, forget anyone that tell you a 5yo will grow out of any behavior, he will grow into it more if you leave him!!!!!
Nip it in the bud with firm disciplinary measures

The trick with terrible 2s going longer than usual is you hoping the child outgrows it. You need to address the issue so you can rest a bit.
5yo have their own issue talk much of carrying baggage that should have been left behind at age 3.
You child should be able to look at you in the eye and immediately behave.

As a teacher, I know that sometimes these kids know the right thing but because they know you'll allow it they'll do anyhow. Your job is to raise them, it might hurt you to punish them but in the end, they'll thank you for it.

Some other disciplinary measures for age 5 upwards includes
- talk to the child. Not only when they offend. First thing in the morning, talk to the child. Tell them they can play without bringing down the house.
- watch what they watch. Moyo begin to have a sassy mouth from watching some TV programs. The day he told me "duh" was the high point. Parental control on other channels but a select few nìyẹn. Are they watching movies where they tumble from 10 storey building, Ninja turtles that neat themselves to stupor. Let your child know it's pure fiction and not real.
-promise and don't fail. "Ayo, if you don't stop playing rough, I'm going to put you on timeout", please come through with the time out if he persists. Don't back down.
-compromise. At 5,he's old enough to understand this.
"Ayo, if you play nice and quiet, then maybe we will go out this weekend"
- punish accordingly. It is called positive reinforcement.
* It includes taking them away from the outing (once they begin to misbehave, remove them from the premises and head back home. Watch how they'll promise to behave next time. Be sure to remind them of this promise when next you're leaving.)
* timeouts. Even in the party our outdoors place the offending child beside you or a capable adult. If child wants to throw tantrum, remove from premises and take your leave. When you get home, register your displeasure.
* take away privileges such as watching TV, playing, having friends over. Food, shelter, clothing, sleep is not a privilege. It is their right. Don't deprive them.
* make them nap. See some of these children just want to sleep. Make them nap.

These are just a few of the things I do.

My kids aren't perfect, far from it but I won't sit with they'll grow out of it and just leave it at that.
Parenting is a lot of work. Roll your sleeves and get to it so that you can retire once they clock 18 or else you'll be parenting them all your life.

Little story.
I once put this in my diary. Atinuke's long throat.
Atinuke is my 3yo but from one year she has had this long throat I don't know where it came from because both her parents don't even look twice at other people's belongings or food. I also had enough time to solely raise Moyo. Moyo won't even drink from the same cup with you or share a spoon with even family members so it came as a shock that Atinuke will even go and ravage the bin to see what you ate in her absence.
People said from when she was a year, she'll outgrow it and I relaxed, she got to 2 and didn't stop so I had to take stricter measures. I talked, I cajoled, I flogged, I threatened and I compromised.
Today, she's on her way to 4 and I can say she's on her way out of it. You'll see her controlling the urge to beg or even pick from the floor and she usually wins.
It took months of sweat and blood. Me thinking up methods, praying and crying and researching cos it stopped being normal to me as I'm not just used to it.

Concerning your husband, you can team up with him to be the good cop, bad cop. If you decide to be good cop please don't stop bad cop from being bad and if you are bad cop, be a bad ass grin
My husband is very lenient with the kids too, it's not in his nature to be strict. He will just talk talk talk and the kids will even be laughing or teasing him. He will turn it to rough play for them. Me? I'm the wicked witch of the west. I don't mind.

Guess what? My kids aren't afraid of me. We sing together, we tease each other, they tell me things, they even gave me a nickname.
Although it hurts when they say they love their father more, it's okay. You are their mother not their lover cheesy

Sorry for the long epistle.
I just don't like people sweeping delicate matters under the rug.

We still use this cap, my daughter even reminds me to bring it anytime I want to wash her hair. I use it for my son too.

No if your clinic days falls on any public holiday you will be asked to come back the following week but that does not mean you won't be attended to if you have complain or emergency.

Well said mama Zaynie, you are a very resourceful person. Although I have been a silent reader, but I have learnt a whole lot from this thread. Parenting is no child's play, we must inculcate the right virtues in our kids, so that we don't end up with over grown babies in our old age.

If it's a really bad rash, i apply the baby tribotan, and leave the baby without diapers for most of the day. But if it's just a small rash then i mix with small vaseline before I put the diaper on her.
