The Formal positions in football are defenders, midfielders and forwards. You must belong to one group. A winger is just a general term for anyone who plays at the flanks. It can left/right midfielder in a 4 or 5 man midfielder, or as a Left/attacking midfielder in a 4-2-3-1 or as a left wing forward in a 4-3-3 formation. Just ask yourself, is Ronaldo the first and only player to play the so called right midfield position you're claiming but he outshined the rest? NONSENSE! You seem to not know the difference between Position and roles. See your mouth like striker, winger, elganche. Words used by people who lack knowledge and understanding of simple positions and roles.
Barcelona over the years have used 4-3-3 4-4-2 and 3-4-3 and this systems there is no position for an attacking midfielder. You end up as a wide midfielder like Hazard and Iniesta were in thier early career or you play as a supporting striker in a 2 man attack.
Saying Barca doesn't play ss is like saying barca doesn't use 4-4-2 at all.

when compare players in terms of goal/games played the positions played should also. The fact that ronaldo played his first 200+ games as a right/left midfielder and not as a forward(SS/CF/RWF/LWF) and on the same wing as his strong foot dampens the effect of any 100 game+ advantage that Ronaldo has over messi. That he was good enough to score a goals then shouldn't be used against him. Afterall the likes of Lampard and Gerrard scored a lot of goals strikers could only dream but were midfielders.
