I'm not surprised this kind of statement is coming from a former Minister of the Federal Republic, afterall it is the worst of the worst minds that make in into power in Nigeria.

Conduct this experiment: Lagos - Toronto vs. Lagos to Calgary. Same country, but observe the huge price difference. This gentleman does not understand the simple explanation that it is cheaper to fly to a city that serves as a hub to other destinations. Flying into Atlanta or New York is cheaper than flying into say, Sacramento. The reverse is the same because the airline has to factor in the cost of landing somewhere else before leaving for the final destination. Like it or not, Enugu international airport is not a major hub at the moment, and there's no one to say that cannot change in a few years.

This ill-informed charlatans are bent on stoking the coals of ethnic tension to satisfy their desire to rule and further divide an already broken country. To his mentally blindfolded supporters, I offer my heartfelt condolences on the death of common sense.
Kaduna airport is no bigger a hub than the Enugu airport and has significantly less air traffic than both Enugu and Owerri airports (yes, Owerri has no international airport, but it would be beating Kaduna too if it did just like it destroys Kaduna's local flight stats). So that can't be the reason it costs more. If the cost of landing is "different", then we have to account for that disparity and what is responsible for it and how to rectify it. To suggest that some Onitsha or Nnewi businessman must content himself without complaint with paying N70,000 or N80,000 more in airfare than his counterpart in other areas of the country is ridiculous. If our elite cannot represent our interests, then WTF are they in government for? And you're trying to color that common-sense engagement as tribalism by divisive "charlatans"?

This fake news has since been addressed I wonder why they are putting it up here. Actually Enugu is the cheapest number Kano cost the most. Kano is 500k while Lagos is 400k Enugu is 350k

Why coming out now to ask me of the differences is it a new development, if not why didn't u state it to us while u were in the government. Or u just realized it now... Take ur time.
Why don't folks like u use ur brain? Does govt set prices for private/foreign airlines?

Lol...they will start ranting and wailing as usual. Go online and check for yourself the fares from different states to China then come back and realise your chidoka is nothing but a useless, hateful, bitter, envious iPod animal.

The only way some people can be relevant is to pull tribalistic stunts..
If you are a frequent air traveller, you will understand how the price of flights are decided worldwide..
Now this campaign will reduce number of people fly Ing from enugu and course further unemployment for Easterners

Marotzke:
FAAN ,NAMA, charges more landing, parking fees plus Radar management services at Enugu airport.
A deliberate policy of the ministry of Aviation who oversees those parastatals .
The airlines naturally adjusted their prices.
why the charges and it increase?

Idiotic Minister without brain....

He should first ask himself why Ibadan-Abuja is 45k while Lagos to Abuja is 20-25k

The reason its like this is because there's no competition in Enugu airport, and less passengers. Sometimes, Overland will bring just 5 passengers all the way from Abuja to Ibadan, but then, the price tickets are killing. Abuja and Lagos tickets will always be cheaper compared to other airports because of patronage and competition
I can agree with u on lack of competition and monopoly, but on low patronage I disagree with u. No one I repeat no one travel like the easterns in Nigeria to china. I repeat aboki has no business with China like the igbos, Yoruba has no business with China like the igbos. Both China and the Igbo's are great merchant and have being partners in business for God knows alone now. Come to nkwor nnewi and onitcha u will see Chinese who owns shops there walking freely doing their businesses like an Igbo man. U cannot tell me Enugu airport lack patronage to China and to Nigeria.

Stop spinning g it around, official statistics of air travel published here a month ago contradicts your position. Enugu has a high flight rate in Nigeria, google it.

The same thing happens with the Eastern Ports, they make it more expensive to import from Warri and Port Harcourt than Lagos, even though the Ship gets to Warri before Lagos
Re: Osita Chidoka: Disparity In Air-fares At Nigerian Airports by IMMUNO1(m): 3:04pm On May 02, 2019
It is just to discourage people from using the airport, thereby reducing possible revenues that will be accrued to the state government. It shall all end in praises... just very soon.

Re: Osita Chidoka: Disparity In Air-fares At Nigerian Airports by SexynSerious(f): 3:39pm On May 02, 2019
I think it's due to lack of competition at Enugu international My guess is that Ethiopian airline is probably the only airplane that goes to China from Enugu, so they can afford to charge whatever they see fit. But in Lagos or Abuja, for instance, they are a few more airlines travelling the same route so passengers have more options.

HospitalityDiva:
This is serious.

However, I disagree with those who say that the demand is higher in Enugu.

Enugu cannot compete with Lagos in terms of demand for China trips. Enugu and surrounding states combined cannot boasts of regular China visitors like those in markets like Alaba, Aspamda, Computer Village, Idumota, Ladipo, Oshodi, Balogun/Nnamdi Azikiwe street, etc.

Except they believe that traders in Lagos travel to Enugu in order to board flights to China.

It only makes sense that to attract patronage, airlines should decrease the cost of their airfare.

And for those who have reduced this discussion to a tribal war, note that the airlines in questions are foreign ones.

My 2 cent tho.

Seems like it. I don't know what the facts are about comparative fare costs. My response to the other guy was about his rationale talking about air traffic.

Can it be because Borno State alone is THREE TIMES bigger than the entire South East!.

So you can imagine the size of that North that you are trying to compare to the South East.
Re: Osita Chidoka: Disparity In Air-fares At Nigerian Airports by Reptyle(m): 4:20pm On May 02, 2019
I just checked on Ethiopian website and this information is incorrect.

Mr. Chidoka's information is false and misleading. Airlines rarely ever have a fixed rate for any route. You can buy a ticket for a particular route for an amount now and someone else will buy the same ticket for higher or lower within an hour from when you bought yours.

The man is educated and exposed and should know better than spreading stuff like this online to further the skewed narrative that Igbos are somehow being dealt the shorter end of the stick.
