I was there yesterday. Unbelievable is the word to describe what I witness. IT's like the road is only made for okada's, containers and fuel trucks and no one is doing anything about it.

Blame NPA for this. They allowed tankers and already loaded trailers to pack on the road and leave small road for cars to struggle and take one way. I dont just understand, they are just after the money. They allowed people to sell on the road and dump refuse on the road.

The kind of concrete road contractors construct these days are purely substandard, they don't meet engineering standards. Concrete road are designed to withstand for 50years the kind of weight and misuse the OP is talking about.
There is a concrete road called warri-sapele Rd constructed by the Midwestern govt of Ogbemudia in Warri.
For over 30years the road has withstood abuse (parking of tankers, pouring of chemicals, digging by GSM operators, flooding, dumping of waste/sewage, selling of cars and heavy trucks on the road, laying of pipes by waterboard, traffic gridlock everyday, etc) yet no sign of port hole or degeneration. Even the hole created on the road by GSM operators after digging and poorly covered with sand remains in that state without expanding.

The concrete road constructed by Julius Berger in NPA warri when Obasanjo was military head of state is still standing firm despite flooding and abuse by heavy trucks

The Apapa-Wharf concrete rd is substandard mbok

Correct. To move from Ijora to Apapa on the bridge alone will require a truck owner spending about 40k to pass. How will the gridlock end with such huge corrupt money exchanging hands?
70k not 40

I deleted my post when I looked deeper and saw concrete.
Thanks.
Was initially fuming.
It’s ok, Dangotte made the right call on this one.

Tarmac is smoother and vehicles make less noise travelling across it. But the problem is that it requires way more maintenance.

We both know Nigeria, Lagos state gov won’t maintain that road properly. So more durable Concrete was the only option..

Did you drive to Apapa or you visited on a Bike? I want to know so that I can plan my visits. What's the traffic like on weekdays and on weekends?

Why is it taking a century to restore sanity to the ports? It's inexcusable!

The road is still too new to begin to experience any wear and tear. It is either the job was poorly done or the acclaimed cement was not of a high quality. As for the gridlock, it cant be any other way. It is the price to pay for those depots and heavy business along that road, like the NPA.

The fsuktis not that of the drivers but the inefficiency of the port operators. Why does it take long to clear goods?

izzou:
grin

The earlier we realize that this gridlock can never ever leave that road, the better...

The answer is simple: Corruption

These tankers pay to park on that expressway. Nigerian Army, Navy, LASTMA, FRSC, NSCDC, Nupeng union and the rest are all stationed there extorting these guys in the name of "controlling traffic"

How come these tankers disappear whenever Buhari is around? It means something can be done, but as usual, the government doesnt care

Like Jimi Disu said this morning, "Our politicians are wicked people"

All these problems are not necessary only if people in power will do the right thing. Its time to open up other ports in other parts of the country.

OK. But I guess we're both referring to container trucks not tankers cos tankers have strong unions ensuring that they pay less than containers?

Nigeria society is sufferin the cumulative effects of low education for youths ,they carry savagery mentallity devoid of civility.

When free basic education is not deliverred with quality enough to groom youths to productive tendencies ,they bcom distructive whether as drivers or street riffraff or wharf rats... it is sad the FG cannot read in bw lines to correct this lingering anomaly.
...ln the words of Sir Aminu Kanu...Nigeria will keep being in state of quamire until the son of a bcoms somebody ,without knowing anybody angry

Re: Apapa-wharf Road That Dangote Reconstructed; See What Trailers Are Turning It To by tee4naija(m): 2:54am On May 03, 2019
Truth be told, Dangote alone is responsible for 50% of road damage in Nigeria. He owns over 50% of all the trailers and heavy duty/earth moving vehicles. Coupled with the reckless way and manner his drivers behave on the roads, they are responsible for 50% of road crashes in Nigeria. It can only happen in a lawless country like ours. There is no police station or even a police post without at least one accidented Dangote trailer in Nigeria. He should support the FG to build a virile rail system to decongest the road and reduce the carnage on our roads.
