The Nigeria Army has banned the use of motorcycles in the North West and some parts of North Central in Nigeria in order to curb the menace kidnapping and other criminal activity.

The Decision to ban the motorcycles was reached after the Army observed that criminals always use the motorcycles to escape after carrying out the criminal activity.

The information was released in a press statement by the Acting Director Army Public Relations Col Sagir Musa

PRESS RELEASE
ENFORCEMENT OF BAN ON THE USE OF MOTORCYCLES IN EX HARBIN KUNAMA AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY

The Nigerian Army (NA) over time has observed the use of motorcycles by armed bandits, kidnappers, criminal elements and their collaborators as enablers to perpetrate their heinous crimes especially in the states within the north west geopolitical zone of the country.

This informed the decision and directive to ban the use of motorcycles within the hinterland particularly around the Forests where the armed bandits, criminals and kidnappers hibernate and all around where troops are conducting operations alongside other security agencies.

While this may cause some inconveniences to some law abiding citizens in the area, the need to use all means possible to stop the dastardly activities of these bandits across the North West part of Nigeria needs no emphasis.

The general public, particularly in the North West and some parts of North Central in Nigeria where Ex HARBIN KUNAMA is ongoing are enjoined to bear with the NA as concerted efforts are being made to combat the insecurity menace ongoing within the area.
In this wise, it is hereby reiterated that the use of motorcycles remain banned within the forest areas in KANO, KATSINA, ZAMFARA, SOKOTO, KADUNA, KEBBI and NIGER States.

Anyone caught using motorcycles within the named areas will be taken for an armed bandit, criminal and kidnapper with dire consequences.

The respective State Governments are enjoined to please disseminate the ban on the use of motorcycles in the named areas and enforce the ban in conjunction with the Security Agencies.

Bad ones always making the good ones to suffer.

Good people using motorcycle to fend for themselves daily now have no option than to drop them hopelessly.

This is another set of suffering for the Nigerian masses, must we suffer to appease this govt?

DOES THE ARMY HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO THAT?

ARE THOSE STATES UNDER STATE OF EMERGENCY? OR THE STATES NO LONGER HAVE GOVERNORS?

APC GOVERNMENT - SAME AS MILITARY GOVERNMENT!

Wow the north happen to be much more reliant on bikes.keke sellers should prepare for the boom. The root of the problem is the rich northerners who decide to allow a system where u can throw away your child at 5 yrs in the name of almajiri you can marry off your daughter at 13 and you can marry as many wives as you like.

The north needs rescue from themselves

Typical Nigeria Army tactic, ban rather than strategise and gather intelligence on the enemy.

This action will not stop kidnapping and banditry in the North, it will only make life harder for farmers, artisans, and others who depend on motorcycles to carry out their daily businesses.

Really? Can they seriously ban? Regardless of how reasonable their point is, I believe they don't have the right to do that directly except through the democratically elected government... abi Army don't take over government for that side?

Who gave Army such powers and where did they derive it from? It is illegal and unconstitutional. Okada riders should go about their normal business and disregard the order of the incompetent Army.

It is the Governor of each state that has the power to ban Okada if it sees them as security risk and not the useless Army that only show their strength with unarmed civilians

Please if you have the opportunity to leave the country, do it now. If you have the resources to move your family abroad, do it now and if you can't do any of the above, pray. I know why I am saying these things.

There is judgement on the nation and the cry of the innocent has gotten to the court of the angels. The Angel's have opened the scroll of remembrance and the oil of retribution is poured over the nation. I saw these many years ago.

Nigeria is on a free fall except the Lord intervenes. There is no strong arm or will that can turn the slide into a anarchy. For those who laugh now thinking it's a northern problem are grossly mistaken. It is coming down South the measure the country has never seen before. I saw these things many years ago.

For the Jobless, there will be fewer jobs down the years and for the poor, the path to poverty will get even wider. What is happening now is beyond you and the leaders know they are helpless but they will never tell you. I saw these things years ago and these days before time.

The military can’t win this war cos they are not motivated. The ones at the realm of affairs are only interested in embezzling funds. Dubai mansion tinz grin

They have the constitutional right to protect the security of the country by any means necessary, and this can include many things like banning motorcycles. They can even ban you from using Nairaland sef if your account is a threat to our national security or poses a big threat to civilian lives grin

Me not a lawyer but I think d army lack the jurisdiction to impose such ban on state government. This is not under Exclusive functions of the federal government as prescribed in a federal system of government.

God bless the Nigerian military and all our armed forces. Even though they are far from perfect, still it is because of their dedication and sacrifice that our country has not been overrun by wicked criminals and terrorists. If not for the Nigerian army, Boko Haram would have seized the North, militants and cultists would have seized the Niger-Delta, IPOB and MASSOB would have seized the SE, area boys and ritualists would have seized the South West, Kidnappers and killer herdsmen would have seized the Middle-belt. God help us. There are too many criminals in the country and a lot of organized crime going on behind the curtains.

I don't understand why you people are so concerned about this when you despise the north and northerners, from your posts on this forum.

Logically, when you see this news, you should just shrug and move on with the words, ''that's their business''.

Anything to bash Buhari I guess.
