Some news are very hard to believe!

Well, if the Sharia ‘police’ can arrest anyone eating during Ramadan, the Army can also enact such order in a 9ja-styled democracy.

Banana Republic of Nigeria. So the Army have now taken over the running of some states. I thought that the decision to ban Okadas should be taken by the Governor of the state.

DOES THE ARMY HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO THAT?

ARE THOSE STATES UNDER STATE OF EMERGENCY? OR THE STATES NO LONGER HAVE GOVERNORS?

APC GOVERNMENT - SAME AS MILITARY GOVERNMENT!

Of course they do not have such right. Election rigger Buhari has finished Nigeria.

all the posters above shaaaaa!!! read the press release CAREFULLY before posting a comment. the ban IS NOT enforced throughout the state but IN FOREST AREAS within those states affected. this is a welcome development because the forest areas are usually where the kidnappers take refuge to perpetrate their evil acts.

They have the constitutional right to protect the security of the country by any means necessary, and this can include many things like banning motorcycles. They can even ban you from using Nairaland sef if your account is a threat to our national security or poses a big threat to civilian lives grin

This one is a confirmed knucklehead. The Army does not have any such powers except inside their barracks.

You guys are busy talking and talking and blaming the army. Who among you saw the reason for the ban? Kidnapping! Its like no one here has been kidnapped before...

It was a motion raised in the senate to help curb kidnapping, so I think the army is just following instructions from the senate. Let's watch and see if it would help

Wow the north happen to be much more reliant on bikes.keke sellers should prepare for the boom. The root of the problem is the rich northerners who decide to allow a system where u can throw away your child at 5 yrs in the name of almajiri you can marry off your daughter at 13 and you can marry as many wives as you like.

The north needs rescue from themselves
True. But on the second hand this ban on bikes might make more youths jobless and when they're jobless it might result to more youths turning to crime as their means of livelihood. Who knows

I don't understand why you people are so concerned about this when you despise the north and northerners, from your posts on this forum.

Logically, when you see this news, you should just shrug and move on with the words, ''that's their business''.

Anything to bash Buhari I guess.

Your comeuppance is around the corner man ..keep playing the Ostrich because of tribalism

This is poor intelligence at work

Use Intel not bans that will compound the suffering of already suffering people

When all the malams where preaching hate speech and were happy that churches where being burnt, they didn't know when the evil men have no more victims they'll turn on them.

I think we are subtly transforming to military rule. The army makes a lot of arbitrary announcements these days. They spoke earlier of an attempt to disturb the handover and now this. No signs they were talking on behalf of a higher authority. Scary times.

Who gave Army such powers and where did they derive it from? It is illegal and unconstitutional. Okada riders should go about their normal business and disregard the order of the incompetent Army.

It is the Governor of each state that has the power to ban Okada if it sees them as security risk and not the useless Army that only show their strength with unarmed civilians

Hmmmm.... the military is monitoring criminal activities of civilians.... and making rules for civilians. How can the IG be silent on this? ...is he man/mouse?
Unless in a.State of Emergency.... the military should have a absolutely nothing to do with policing civilians. Ok...Okada is banned...here comes a rider... what would the soldier do?...write him a ticket?...for what violation of which law?

God bless the Nigerian military and all our armed forces. Even though they are far from perfect, still it is because of their dedication and sacrifice that our country has not been overrun by wicked criminals and terrorists. If not for the Nigerian army, Boko Haram would have seized the North, militants and cultists would have seized the Niger-Delta, IPOB and MASSOB would have seized the SE, area boys and ritualists would have seized the South West, Kidnappers and killer herdsmen would have seized the Middle-belt. God help us. There are too many criminals in the country and a lot of organized crime going on behind the curtains.
DOES SOUTH EAST BELONG TO YOUR FATHER; WHY ARE YOU SO UNINTELLIGENT TO BRING IPOB TO YOUR COMMENT?

Banning of motorcycles in those states are plan for the Nigerian Army to take over the west, east and south, they are indirectly sending this people to the south and the eastern part of Nigeria to commit avoc so they the army can enter fully the south and west to islamize Nigeria, they started already and let those that has ear, let them hear, the army don’t have such right, instead let them ban the motorcycle nation wide.

Please if you have the opportunity to leave the country, do it now. If you have the resources to move your family abroad, do it now and if you can't do any of the above, pray. I know why I am saying these things.

Out archaic approach to security ! That was how after one of the bomb blasts in Abuja, just because a sports bike was allegedly used by the bomber, they banned the use of sports bikes in Abuja. Didn’t last long because it affected the elites.
