Its high time the governors of Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Akwaibom sit up and develop their own ports, if we can have private depots for petroluem products why not ports as well.

Open ports in the Niger delta will reduce the criminality and rascality there, the governors of the SS should stop the blame game , saddle up and help their people, the youths in the SS should press for this instead of kidnapping and hooliganism.

This is what Lagosians have been praying for. Let everybody take their own cargo away from Lagos and decongest the city. Too many accidents with trucks and trailers carrying containers on our roads. Thank God we can expect less fatality now.

Easterners please follow this man example and tell your billionaires and governors to follow suit so your people are not resulting in casualty on highway everyday running business back and forth.

Kudos to Elrufai! He should use the opportunity to generate IGR if Niger buys in to his idea.
fiscal federalism or division. There is no need for your inconsequential advice.

Apapa/Tincan have every right to open all cargos coming through its ports. We shall open and inspect every single thing. So you think you can import guns and bombs to come and use to attack Lagos under your useless cover of Boko Haram and we will be looking at you like fools. By the way going forward the head of customs must be Lagosian. If it was another tribe they will not let a non indegene close to leadership of their ports since other miscreants are so jealous of our resources. It’s time Lagosians stand up and fight for their resources and assets.
ur reply sounded like, u attacking me. Am I el-rufai? or do u think am a northerner?

Nigeria is not an Islamic country, we only have a president who has a strong lining to his religion and ethnicity but his time in office will expire .Nigeria is a democracy and not a caliphate or an Islamic kingdom.

How will the goods make it to Kaduna? Teleportation?

NB: I need someone to break it down for me. I don't understand how containers are cleared at ports.
the goods meant to go to kaduna are classified on the bill of laden that they are to be cleared at kudana inland port.. so they won't be opened and they will be fast track to be transported to the terminal.. the rails are to be used for that purpose...

Thank you!

Most of all we are tired of road casualties and property damages from freight trucks. Having regional ports will help tremendously to boost local economy.

No be by force to use water, if River Niger cant be dredged, use dry ports. Same thing Elrufai is telling Niger, East can also do with Cameroon. Expand your horizon and prove for once Ibo is truly enterprising.

Mr El-Rufai should go and tackle his many domestic problems and remove the logs in his eyes first. Here is a man who could not stop the thousands of Christians killing, for that,he presented a Muslim-Muslim ticket.
He is now testing the Southern feelings on how to break god-fatherism as we shall see if he will hand over to a stranger after his wasted eight years.we all know too that most of the Northern borders are open all year long(remember 53Suitcasesthen for those who were born),that is why kidnapping, robbery, across the borders illegality is rampant. So Mr Governor,Lagos dey -campe,Niger Republic know you and your state more than yourself.Thank God you can't remove the Lagoon from Lagos to London is ever a lucrative business.na God design it so.chikena.

Yeah true, but guess what?

If I were one of the states the freight will pass through i will toll the trade. This is considered inter-state commerce and passing through my state means it will pay tax. Anything going through Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Kwara, Niger, to get to Kaduna will derive revenue for the respective states it crosses to get to its terminal.

It was Lagos port. Obasanjo ruined it! When you see Yoruba leaders at symposiums and seminars subtly throw shit at Obasanjo its because of his prodigality. Lagos ports was under Nigerian Ports Authority but its executives were Yorubas. Obasanjo threw it open, same way he screwed up ownership and rights over land.

Northerners are afraid of a non-Obasanjo Yoruba in power. They are fretting about that. They knew how to programm Obasanjo and is why they always went for him to represent Yoruba. A non-Obasanjo from Yorubaland is a threat to them.

This is not true. Port Harcourt and Warri seaport are working as we speak. It is the easterners that have refused to use them. Stop making points that are completely false.

FG flags off Kaduna inland dry port
By Albert Akota

Federal government yesterday flagged off the Kaduna Inland Dry Port (KIDP) at Kakuri to curb the challenges being faced by importers and exporters as well as guaranteeing seamless movement of cargo from the seaports to the state.
Here is another FG project. While Buhari is trying to develop his region, Goatluck developed his wife.

All ports in Nigeria are owned by the Nigerian government and they are the ones that shutdown 6 or 7 seaports in eastern Nigeria. This has absolutely nothing to do with political will, yoruba politicians never needed political will to build the Ports in Lagos
Nobody short down any seaport man. Promoting falsehood and out right disregard to facts will be the undoing of the eastern Nigeria. The seaport in PH and Warri are working eastern business men just refused to use them. They all site insecurity as the reason for not using those seaports. It is never because somebody short them down.

no... the rail tracks are laid for inter state movement.. so ferrying a cargo isnt a crime as you pointed out.. since the NRC has the trains and it's a federal government run transportation system.. it's can't be toll at all... it should even be an advantage to the states since there would be stations where these trains will stop.. some of these states can make use of these places as markets.. and it can aid development of residential areas...

These are mere excuses i do not agree with because say for instance Nigeria, will SE and SS folks use Lagos sea-port when they can do something similar even if it means co-operating between each-other to achieve that?

It is simply lack of political will on the part of Nigerian Government to do that, cos as we speak, billions of dollars have been wasted on Lake-Chad region looking for Crude-Oil that is not there.

It is in the interest of the region where Lagos Port is situated to have the only truely functonal sea-port in the country...Obasanjo made sure of that.[/quote]Calm your titties. If it were to be in the interest of SW, a Yoruba man rather than Atiku would have been the biggest beneficiary of the concession.
But a large number of guttersnipes from the ridiculous SE would be so ridiculously daft as to place their tongues on Atiku's anus and lick it clean at the instance of being his slaves for an elusive seat of a VP.

By your earlier comment, you couldn't be more dumb by saying Lagos port is no longer sustainable. However, data shows an increase in revenue by 80% in a year period. How more sustainable could it have been going by daily operations.

Bros ,no SEAPORT was shut down .

All these Sea-Ports are functioning but the FG can NOT force importers &exporters and the shipping line to use these ports like they did in the 1970s.

In 1977-78, the defunct Nigerian National Shipping Lines used to rotate where they will off load their cargoes between the Lagos ports, Sapele, Warri, Onne or Calabar.

It was a crazy system! My father's cargo which were meant for his shops in Ebute-Metta and Palmgroove in Lagos were diverted to Sapele &Warri ports.
