The Minister of Health has always been a Medical Doctor and Minister of Education has always been a Professor, yet have we improved in those two sectors in the last 30 years? Probably not!!

So what are you suggesting as the solution.

What is he going there to learn at this hour,all those theories that don't work on African soil.tbey should develop the executive programme of the state univerisity.

If Sanwo-olu likes, let him go to Jupiter to learn Leadership. When the powers that be decide that his time is up, nothing will save him. Well, good one anyway (on personal development level ).

Lagos State Governor-elect, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has traveled to the United State to take a course in leadership at Harvard University as he gets set to govern Lagos state.

According to him,  he is at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government taking a course on Leading Economic Growth.

He shared photos of him in class and wrote;

"This week, I am at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government taking a course on Leading Economic Growth.
To lead a great state like lagos, it is important that I am on top of new solutions and concepts that will help accelerate economic growth and development.
Whether in business or governance, we need to combine knowledge with practical solutions.

At times I wonder, why we need to go to other places to learn stuffs.

Some tactics for there no dey work for ere.. Na different climates, let us develop what would work for us ere and then move on from there.

Good question, here is a simple answer...
Knowledge and learning is a continuous process, the only time permitted not to learn is when we seize to breath. So going for a leadership course now will help him to stay informed and to address performance discrepancies as far as governance is concern

wasted time and money, not when he has a four years course to take from the university of bourdillon..

This was what the wisest man Socrates was trying to teach about Democracy. He was of the opinion that, For the fact that anybody in the ship can't just stand up and go do the work of a captain without being trained same way, it is very disastrous to vote for anyone to come govern you unless ofcourse the individual has been trained on how to lead. But today, ignorant people vote in ignorant leader with a myopic view of leadership. I'm glad Sanwo olu got it right to go for the training after democracy has taken course. Secondly, we should learn how to groom leaders & prepare them for challenges ahead. In Nigeria what we do is not encouraging. We win elections first before going for leadership training. Quite disappointing, we shouldn't expect much from this guy.

Managing the 5th largest economy in Africa goes beyond just Lagos, you still need the kind of global skills, knowledge and thought process they offer at Harvard. Governments all over the world send their leaders to the same Harvard for a reason even though they have similar institutions in their own countries. Felipe Calderón former Mexican President went, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Ban Ki-moon and others did also.

We sometimes misplace our sense of patriotism when in fact we should be glad when the people we elect to manage our affairs seek credible knowledge just to serve us better.

While I personally think that NO education is wasted, and that education (as well as other forms of self-improvement) is a life-long undertaking, it is nonetheless necessary to point out that those persons you cited in the highlighted part above were most definitely NOT “sent” by their governments to Harvard, and neither did they prepare for political or governmental leadership with a one-week executive course. Instead, these are people actually privately regular degree programs at Harvard as regular private students and graduated with regular degrees (just as the likes of El-Rufai, Frank Nweke and the late Joseph Garba did).

Frankly, instead of attending these short programs that are essentially cash cows for prestigious university (because they charge a ton for what amounts to little more than name-dropping association), if the intention to develop capacity to run the state government on international best-practices standards (which would be a great aspiration), then it would have been best to arrange for some Kennedy School professors to come to Lagos and run a retreat for the state’s top policymakers and political officeholders (similar to what HBS does for businesses and corporations). After all, Mr. Sanwo-Olu will not be running the state government all by himself.
