I can't even remember the last time I saw Bigi in my area.

Bigi is not Cocacola, just like Minmmie Noodles can never be indomie, and Bournvita cannot be Milo, nor Three Crowns, Peak.

Maybe you can compare Bigi and Gala instead.

You have a good point.

But this idea of it "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" is detriment to progress. And we love using it a lot.

WhatsApp and others maintain the same template but are always introducing new updates & new function one at a time. It did not have call, video call, daily status and so on when it started.

For example, Click on a NL ad and it will take you away from NL. Those little details count.

I find it irritating whenever I click and I'm taken elsewhere. I have always wondered why NL never did anything about it.

Haba....I am for progress, but a lot has changed on Nairaland in a decade.

1. When I joined Nairaland a decade ago, there was no Like/Share button

2. There were no Mentions. If someone quotes you, you will never know, unless you return to the topic.

The idea of supermods also happened in the last decade, although it may not be a positive upgrade.

While I agree that Nairaland has declined, it has more to do with content than the site its self. And the content is dictated by those who post and comment here.

I thought like button has been there for more than a decade ( I was not here when it started so I won't say since inception).

About your last point, the front page takes very high percentage of the viewership. It used to be diverse and a little healthy but the mods for a while have focused on pushing mostly irrelevant entertainment nonews and snake thread into front-page. Even politics only get good coverage during election times.

People are here for different reasons... I only glance through FP before going to 'relevant' sections. I believe they are good contents hidden in those neglected sections. Also, better content creators will be motivated if their threads are given good attentions like those snake threads.

Many people don't see killing snake as news-worthy until it become a FP material.

We all have emotions and we should construct our words in such a way that it will be constructive without hurting. Learn how to tell someone to go to Blazes and he'll be looking forward to it.

I doff my heart for Seun as he was quite young when he started and the site now has over 2m members.

Yes, Seun needs to improve the site but why don't you suggest to him politely? (Read Proverbs 15:1)

Bandwidth is expensive hence watching video on their bandwidth is a no no. Even now, they are struggling with bandwidth

Seun's biggest problem is that revenue is not comensurate with the traffic to the site.

His best source of revenue would have been Google Adsense. That was their primary source of revenue when it started but Google didn't like some content here (most likely from the sex subforum) and they dropped Nairaland.

Their present source of revenue which is paid advertising from Nigerians on different sub forums using banner ads won't bring in commensurate income.

There are other ways he can monetize the site such as Taboola and Revcontent but it will look spammy, ruin the user experience and take visitors away from Nairaland.
I was the one that suggested the "mention" option to Seun and I am glad he took the suggestion. Before now, if someone quotes you, you won't be notified, you will have to scroll through the entire thread to be looking if someone has quoted you. At least, he took the suggestion.

Shut up.

What other innovations do you want to see on nairaland?

You want seun to set up video database so you can be watching videos on nairaland abi?

Clap for yourself Mr video watcher.

For your information, nairaland is a forum and as long as many users are okay with how it works for them, I don't think a few dissenting voices like yours will amount to anything.

If you're not satisfied with how nairaland is currently set up, what don't you go and start and become the founder of your own forum?

Nonsense. sad
always a black sheep comment and this is one.

respect if the story is true
but honestly speaking, her English doesnt sound British.
if youv'e lived in the UK you'll know what i mean

Exactly what I thought as I watched the video.

Aside the fact that she may have lost any accent she may have acquired in the past, her grammar doesn't sound like someone who has lived with the native speakers.

Full respects to the hardworking woman, but I really think the story is incomplete.

That said, I think there are possibly 33 - 75 million people like her all over Nigeria. That the population of Ghana more than 3 times over and more than the population of the United Kingdom.

As Nigerians, we must realize the enormity of our societal problems and take drastic steps to address it. First, we must return this country to true Federating or even Confederating units. This is otherwise known as RESTRUCTURING.

We must go back to our organization as it was before the first military coup in January 1966, where each region took care of itself quite independently.

Let us let our States take care of themselves. Let's reduce the content of the Exclusive list!!!

According to the video, the woman just went on a year course in catering and hotel management in the UK in the 70s. It's not as if she was living there for a long time. And why she ventured into carrying tomatoes in mile 12 market is simply because she was owing debt of 500k which she used in training her last born through uni and sorting personal stuffs. she needed to pay back the loan cus she's tired of failed promise from friends and family members. that's why she's doing what she's doing

Thank you very much jare.

Guardian wrote 'graduate'. I knew the story was simply incomplete.

Innovation is the key bro. If he had sense of innovation he would have expanded the service scope of Nairaland and provide other services that will generate more revenue. When Google started they were offering only one service which was the search engine. But today they are into cloud computing, Android OS, digital advertising technology, artificial intelligence, email service and storage service etc. All these have increased their revenue.
Another problem is the one man business mentality. If you try to contact Seun today for business partnership to offer an idea or technical assistance to improve Nairaland he will just ignore you.

Seun's biggest problem is that revenue is not comensurate with the traffic to the site.

So what happened to Nairalist since you seem familiar with Seun's business?

I found Nairalist far more interesting but it stopped suddenly.

Seun refused to tell us what happened when we asked him many years ago. The first time i got the impression that Seun probably takes us for granted. He could have simply explained why it stopped.

That brings us to one of the major problems Nigerian businesses have. They become complacent once some profit starts coming in.
They forget that to keep profit rising, you must offer more to existing customers to keep them. Then attract new ones to grow.

If it's not broke why fix it?

This isn't about been broke and fixing. Nairaland is a perfect example of usable archaic machine. New demands are coming up everyday, yet no added functionality. It just doing old things nice.
Google has a vintage theme known as google classic for people with slow network but it didn't prevent them from building an advanced and modern slick interface to.meet new demands.
Ask yourself how many people use the classic theme today? especially when network speed has improved. Everyone one loves good thing especially when they can afford it.
