Delivar:

Innovation is the key bro. If he had sense of innovation he would have expanded the service scope of Nairaland and provide other services that will generate more revenue. When Google started they were offering only one service which was the search engine. But today they are into cloud computing, Android OS, digital advertising technology, artificial intelligence, email service and storage service etc. All these have increased their revenue.
Another problem is the one man business mentality. If you try to contact Seun today for business partnership to offer an idea or technical assistance to improve Nairaland he will just ignore you.

Must you contact seun?

Why don't you go an' start your own forum?

You think if Google was waiting for Yahoo to give them attention, they will be where they are today?

Start the business since you already have some ''bright ideas'' and then partner with your entire family members. grin grin grin

Nonsense people like you can only be giving people useless advice.

If you know what already works, what stops you from implementing it for yourself and taking all the gains and glory na?

Shut up.

What other innovations do you want to see on nairaland?

You want seun to set up video database so you can be watching videos on nairaland abi?

Clap for yourself Mr video watcher.

For your information, nairaland is a forum and as long as many users are okay with how it works for them, I don't think a few dissenting voices like yours will amount to anything.

If you're not satisfied with how nairaland is currently set up, what don't you go and start and become the founder of your own forum?

Nonsense. sad

My post is not for your type, it is for innovative people with sensible heads.

My brother, this thing u said is typical of Nigerian businesses. Once the business is profitable, the enterpreneur stops being creative and that does it......then you have stagnant businesses everywhere......still profitable but they never grow!!

Okay, it's really none of my business though, but have you considered that the owner prolly doesn't want to expand it like you all have been advising?

This is a forum...a community that has this personal touch to it. Small, yet mighty. If NL incorporates those mighty changes you talk about, it would lose its appeal to me.

I don't have to be close to him to see that he's one brilliant fellow, and if it were his desire to expand Nairaland and make it become the Facebook of Nigeria...he could.

The kind of expansion you're talking about that you are yet to see here is not because he is bereft of ideas. I strongly think it's his choice.

Less is best.

So what happened to Nairalist since you seem familiar with Seun's business?

I found Nairalist far more interesting but it stopped suddenly.

Seun refused to tell us wj=hat happened when we asked many years ago. The first time i got the impression Seun probably takes us for granted. He could have simply explained why it stopped.

That brings us to one of the major problems Nigerian businesses have. They become complacent once some profit starts coming in.
They forget that to keep profit risings, you must offer more to existing customers to keep them. Then attract new ones to grow.

I used Nairalist. I don't think it was getting enough traffic or patronage.

Anyway, a lot of your points are valid and he should sit up

Google initially wanted to partner with yahoo but things didn't work out. So yes they were waiting for Yahoo initially. Partnering and improving an existing service is always easier than starting from scratch.

If the OP wanted you to see the video, he would have put it in YouTube, shared the link here, and you can watch directly in NL. The poster wanted to drive traffic and it worked!

I guess you haven't heard of the biggest forum-styled social media platform called Reddit. Since Reddit's creation in 2005 (i.e 13years ago wink ), it has progressively evolved from a bland discussion forum to a robust information repository with enhanced capabilities both functionally and in terms of aesthetics. All these have been predicated on deliberate efforts to constantly innovate amidst the dynamic nature of modern internet technology and awareness of key competitors seeking to usurp dominance in that niche. The plain and candid truth is that Nairaland has remained rudimentary at best, offering it's users a reliable platform to express and interact on a broad spectrum of topics.
There's a copious supply of critical success factors to enable attainment of innovative projects on the platform such as mammoth population of Nigerians (200m) both within and in the diaspora even extending to west and subsaharan Africa and beyond - the potentials are innumerable to say the least. The constantly plunging price of data and proliferation of multiple channels to access and consume content are as well very augmentative.
However, borrowing the words from the title of a remarkable book - Innovate or Die, it will indeed be foolhardy of the founders of Nairaland to assume a static posture in view of the frenetic pace of distruptive technologies defining our social realities today.
There's urgent need to start thinking outside the box.
Baba, all these na big grammer. Go and start your own

No other moniker. The number of members is up there to see.

You're right about numbers. It could be higher. But many who I've introduced to the site ever come back. People have their preferences.

Some love Facebook, others Twitter, others Lindaikeji and so one.

I love Nairaland, Facebook, and YouTube
An average user on Nairaland has more than 1 moniker. So the stat above doesn't give the true picture of things.

Nairaland unique users are less than 2.2 million.
