Kudos on Dangote refinery, so no modular refineries would be completed before dangote refineries come on stream. I believe it is in the strategic interest of national security to have modular refineries in all the geo political zones of the country to complement Dangote"s effort.... we can not afford to put all our eggs in one basket

Don't mind all these post-without-verification crew.
Dangote himself said in an interview last year that the project would cost between $12 billion to $14 billion.
I don't know why people don't do a little verification before they type nonsense.
One idiot just say a state in the usa embarg on a project of 120 billion dollars. I wonder if they know what they are saying

By the way, the total money include infrastructure, the fencing, the land gotten was a swampy land, they have to dredge it which takes them about 11 months, the machinery (abi na free), the equipment among others. Watch the video and you will understand

Baba there is no way the figure is $130bn! How much is Dangote worth? At his peak he was valued at $25bn. Even Nigeria cannot sink such in a single project; we simply don't have that kind of sum.

Not long ago our annual national budget was in the range of $35bn. The 40,000MW Three Gorges Dam, one of the biggest projects ever undertaken, gulped about $23bn. Consequently, Dangote refinery, which is not even the biggest in the world - the Ajaokuta Steel complex is still way bigger, can not take such an amount.

It is definitely an oversight.

Is it really true that importers contribute little to the economy?

All one has to do is to visit markets such as Alaba, Computer village, Balogun and many others to see the benefits of imports.

The bustling markets have made thousands wealthy and wealth trickles down. When you visit these stalls, you see lots of people they employ.

Multiply this several all over the country and you realise that millions of people make a living from imports as businessmen, employers and employees

We haven't included transporters, bankers and many other sectors than benefit massively from imports.

I remember when Agangan, the minister of investment during Jonathan's term lifted duty on imported textiles and other goods

There was a visible uptick in demand for warehousing.

For instance, the US found out that for every 1cent reduction in import duty created 3cents of profits.

Imports have been Nigeria's problem but rather exports. Switzerland with only 8m people imports $200b of goods yearly and exports $220b..

Nigeria with 201m people imports about $50b worth of goods. Nigeria needs to focus on non-oil exports.

Multiply this several all over the country and you realise that millions of people make a living from imports as businessmen, employers and employees

This is precisely why Nigeria is not like South Korea or Malaysia or Thailand etc. Theses are countries that were on the same level of development as Nigeria when Nigeria became independent in 1960.
No country can survive on importing everything like we do. The effects are there for everyone to see with millions of people without jobs.
The number of people currently employed in importation are just a tiny fraction of the population. Many more Nigerians could be employed if we produce most of the things we need for ourselves and for exports. This is the difference between the rich countries and the poor countries.

The Dangote Refinery seems to be one if not the largest project going on the Africa continent currently. It's a project that has gulped lots of billions of dollars, break some technological protocol, it has involved a lot of technical and advanced engineering. People on this site work day in, day out to make sure the refinery receives the best and meet up with the timeline.

For example, the 2760 ton RFCC regenerator, is the largest of its kind in the world which was made in South Korea. According to Dangote, he has to build its own port in order to accommodate all these mega machineries as no Nigerian port can accommodate any of these items.

The CEO/Founder Mr. Aliko Dangote while speaking with Mo Ibrahim recently, when he was asked to comment about the refinery, he said, " it can be considered the largest project in the world when considering all various construction around the area". One hard fact is when he says the refinery section of the project has 136,000 piles, more than anywhere else in the world.

When the refinery is finished, it is expected that it will produce 650,000 barrels of crude daily. According to Aliko Dangote, the refinery has gulped $130billion so far.

The site was about 2 million square meters in size was bought for the sole aim of the refinery from both the Federal and State Government.

According to the images we have seen so far, work at this site is nothing but a mega one. Lots of work are on-going simultaneously which leaves no room for negligence from the workers in any way. The pile foundation, civil construction, grid flow production tasks, and the grid installation work are ongoing.

At the completion of this project, it's said to create thousands of job opportunities for the youths and for those in the oil sector thereby saving the nation a huge amount of money from foreign refineries.

AutoReportNG got some images from the companies handling the project, we felt its important to report back to you on how they fare.

The total cost of that project is less than 20 billion dollars.
Maybe u meant 130 billion naira or something

Malaysia which you mentioned has 0% import duty on most goods and yet their industries are flourishing Even Thailand does not have high import duties on goods

All the above countries you mentioned industrialised through exportation. Only South Korea could be accused of being protectionist bit it too industrialised primarily through exportation.

China with it's massive population industrialised through exportation. As least, you do see their products everywhere.

You said that is the difference between rich and poor countries. That is not backed by facts. Where do you get such stats from? Completely flase

These countries industrialized through exportation but you think Nigeria should allow unbridled importation because it provides employment for some people?
I don't think you know what you are talking about.

Malaysia exports far more than they import, does that look like Nigeria?

This is what brings wealth to the nation, I wish we can get more infrastructure from private sector and even religious body because as it seems if we wait for the government "we go wait tire".
Jokes aside nothing stop religious institution from building world class affordable hospitals. Catholic church, winners, redeem can pull that off or come together and start a world class hospital in the Southern part of Nigeria and hopefully the big islamic organization can follow
Then country will develop, jobs will be created and wealth will start manifesting but if rely only on go to church on monday tuesday....monday then I knw God will tag us as not serious

Fucking north is privatizing this country. When is money we will lost all objectivity..

This oil is from the south. But a northern man is taken the oil and building refinery elswhere. But if the white man choke a black man on the street. We protest. How is this different from choking the southern man on the strt?

When Jonathan wanted to release a report about how oil blocks belong to the north. And subsequently failed to renew licence. He was forced out. Incompetence, clueless. Here we are.

In a federal system a people from another state is controlling another state resource. This is happening after colonialism supposedly has ended.

Well done!

I am not a pessimist but the truth is that even with this project at 100% functioning, it will not change the current situation of petroleum products in Nigeria, both the price and availability of fuel. You know why, to an average black Man, any idea or invention is more of making profit than meeting people’s needs. Kudos to Dangote on his unrelenting effort to expand his empire. At least all the subsidies will now be channeled to one man DANGOTE and for the Nigerian citizens, nothing changes
