Ask GEJ/PDP, they gave that responsibility to the DISCOs when they privatized electricity and power generation or just google the meaning of privatization.

It is not by force to comment.

......you should on the other hand show us the major projects GEJ/PDP completed in 16 years

Show us the roads

Show us the completed rail projects

Show us the bridges

Show us the refineries

Show us the hospitals

Show us the water works

Show us anything meaningful Nigeria benefited from 16 years/PDP and $500 BILLION oil earnings.

The question I asked you..

Where is the sense and sane rational in saying that the administration that earned and spent more money without any meaningful achievement performed better than the one that's achieving more with less?

Where is the sense and sane rational in saying that the administration earned over $100 per barrel and declared austerity measures with $77 per barrel oil earnings with nothing to show is better than the one that survived with $27 per barrel and even achieved more?

For a country as extremely poorly managed as Nigeria, that will be the melting pot of poverty and disease

Thank God I will be long dead and gone by then.

Anybody who loves Nigeria should be asking for one thing, now: a STRONG LAW to curb childbirth to no more than 2 per family.

Otherwise, and in fact, it should be divided so that each group can manage their population growth and chart their own economic course at their own pace, peacefully for some. Nigeria is too intractable and unwieldy to manage. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to know nothing will change anytime soon. It does not matter whether APC or PDP.

I was almost torn to shreds for suggesting Nigeria reduce import duties on textile fabrics to zero in order develop the garment sector. That it will create lots of jobs.

This article has just justified my position. And you have armchair economists here on NL huffing and puffing online as though they have a 2 Nobel prizes in economics.

It's a shame that most governments here are innately protectionist and doubt Nigerian joining the African trade initiative will see the light.

Funny thing is that I'm not really keen on the trade zone. I feel import duties on goods originating from outside the zone will be high. Import duties on goods from outside the zone should not be more than 8%..

I don't think it's as simple as the article would like us to believe. We simply are not competitive enough to operate without some form of protection. You really think the average Nigerian manufacturer paying through his nose for diesel to power his gen, and as well as 911 trucks to transport his goods (no thanks to poor road network) can compete against far more efficient systems elsewhere?

Take rice for instance. With the banning of importation, I'm not sure anyone would doubt there's been a remarkable improvement in local production (though the actual increase is in contention). At least I was in Ebonyi and can testify to upsurge in abakaliki rice.

Unless and until we deal with infrastructure problem that is seriously hampering business environment here, any attempt to open our borders to unrestricted imports would lead to immediate collapse our local manufacturers. That's for sure

Nigeria has 7 primary problems
1. High population
2. Extremely unproductive % of the population
3. Lack of visionary leaders
4. Lack of basic infrastructure such as adequate electricity
5. Corruption in high and low places
6. Foolish, unassertive, complacent, and sometimes, conniving citizens.
7. Parochial sentiments/interests (tribalism and religion)

Of these, number 6 is so worrisome to me because it is the basis for lack of accountability and vision by the leaders. It is the reason failed presidents and governors are returned to power.

Number 1 would have not been a problem if number 2 was not an issue.

Doomed country.

In Sudan had had civil war for many years between the northern Muslims and the southern Christians. The citizens in both regions never questioned their leaders poor management since all focus was on defeating their neighbours.

Now that Sudan has been divided, the northern Muslims just revolted against their leaders and the southern leaders are still fighting themselves over tribal differences so may be the south needs to still be further divided.

Northern Sudan has taken its first step towards development but may not see the fruits of this labour in the next 20 years. Better late than never.

For instance, the statistics show that under Buhari ,Debt levels have increased greatly. It has shot through the roof. As the figures shows, it was 12% in 2014 but 25% of GDP by 2018.

Debt service to revenues has lept from 27% of GDP in 2014 to 60% of GDP in 2018. That means that 60% of the budget is used to service debt! If a person spends 60% of his income on servicing debt, will you not be worried for the person? How much more for the country and it's rising

Jonathan allowed endemic corruption under his watch. There was a lot of fiscal recklessness under him

However his economic policies were much sounder than those of Bubari If Buhari had simply maintained those policies and even improved on them and fought corruption, better.

He instead introduced economic policies such as pegging of the Naira to the dollar which was a recipe for financial ruin. I wrote off this Government when it did that.

Buhari is a principled man no doubt but he scores an F9 in economics. Worse, he is still determined to impose economic hubris on the economy.

We have the brains and human capacity to be a major and global power and economy, poor electricity is our number one obstacle, but we cannot get stable electricity because electricity is privatized and the people they sold the power assets to can not produce electricity because they don't have the knowledge, they don't have the money to build power plants.

We need at least 50,000MW, but our transmission system cannot handle ordinary 4000MW.

The problem is extremely complicated, they must get rid of privatization or restructure everything and rebuild the transmission system from top to bottom.

So, what was the result under GEJ? We were still in darkness, no completed project, no road, no bridges, no quality healthcare, no railway, no stable electricity, nothing. Nothing but abandoned projects all over Nigeria, now we are completing projects that they abandoned for 30-40 years.

Today, Nigeria is starting and completing rail projects in less than 3 years, what they couldn't complete in 30 years.

OIL, the reason for some wanting Nigerians to stick together for life, is finite. I propose that if necessary, as an incentive, a formula to share oil revenue among the separated countries for 10 years can be arrived at, with international support and agreement. This will allow every group to financially develop themselves internally during the interlude. After 10 years, oil revenue reverts to the owners of each oil well.

Thankfully, we now know that oil is not the biggest deal in NIGERIA. Funds From Nigerians living overseas surpassed Oil & Gas earnings in 2018 at $25b against $18b from Oil.

Who are the Nigerians living overseas and sending these billions back to Nigeria? Igbo, Yoruba, Edo and the rest, in that order. You see, with this fact, Igbos will do well in their own country.

Igbos (South East) should exclude non-Igbo and unwilling Igbo South South people from their desired Biafran State, and make a strong case at the UN level for their own country.

It is a win-win for each region to live separately as independent countries. Assuming it is a ''Nigerian factor'' holding the country down. Separately, the North will do well with their massive land and agricultural potential. With Lagos, the West is easily the most developed part of Nigeria and will potentially keep that going. The Igbos are the most resilient Nigerians and have great human resource and acumen to survive and potentially develop themselves. The SS has oil as well as human resources to potentially develop.

Do you know the humongous amount of ibos who own massive real estate in Lagos?
Re: Bloomberg Compares Nigeria 2014 And 2018-hard Data by Tianamen1: 4:12am On May 16, 2019
Do all diverse countries need to separate in order to develop? Not necessarily

When a man is illiterate, he is a problem not only to himself but to his nation. This simple statement is key to the economic development of all countries.

Today in Nigeria, the biggest expense Nigerians face is in educating and providing healthcare to their children.

The government on the other hand subsidizes everything from electricity cost, petrol cost, pilgrimage cost to the cost of the US dollar.

If the government would simply face its duty of providing education and healthcare for all its citizens (not just poor citizens), and hands off all this other industries like petroleum, energy, agriculture, transportation, housing etc, leaving the private sector to handle them, Nigeria will develop.

The Government does not even have to run the schools and hospitals. All the government must do is guarantee funding and provide standards and infrastructure for the schools and hospitals.

Amazingly, the government will then be able to tax its citizens when they become productive adults to fund future generations. Also the government would be more serious about implementing population controls since it directly bares the burdens.

The government does not need to build rail networks and airports and the rest. These things do not bring about development without a majority of your people having quality education. Moreover, an educated private sector would better fund these sectors.

Whether Nigeria divides or not, at the end of the day, the government(s) that decides to focus its budget on educating its people as opposed to all these other nonsense would become developed.

I have not said that we don't need constant electricity. I have only said that the electricity is useless without education that creates a pool of differently skilled labour for the many industries.
Concerning book smart and good schools, suffice to say that self deception is the greatest sin according to some people.

At a time when knowledge acquisition in other climes is getting increasingly sophisticated, the same cannot be said to be the case in most parts of the country.

While the much-touted leaders of tomorrow in some states attend classes in ad-hoc environments including under trees, unsafe environment and sundry locations, Lagos State, many say should never be found in the company of such needy states.

But that is not the case. As a matter of fact, students in some schools in the state are taught while sitting on bare floors, while classrooms in some schools across the state are without roof, sundry fittings and devoid of requisite learning aides

Oshodi Nursery and Primary School, Oshodi, which has been in deplorable condition for a very long time is a classic example of this sad story.Located only a few kilometres away from Bolade Bus Stop, along Oshodi/Agege Motor Road, the school, which has up to four buildings within the premises, sees pupils scampering for safety anytime it rains, even as the learning process also has to be halted at such times.
This explains why parents and concerned residents of the area are urging the state government to come to their aid, by rehabilitating the school, and providing an enabling environment for the pupils to learn, in consonant with their rights to attend school in conducive environments.

The pathetic condition of the school first attracted the attention of The Guardian Newspaper, which carried a report to that effect in The Guardian on Sunday edition of February 7th, 2016. Ever since that publication, nothing has been done to improve the fortunes of the school.

This gross neglect suffered by the school, has provided a leeway for miscreants in the area to sneak in for regular Indian Hemp smoking sessions. They sometimes defecate in the open classrooms, thereby compounding an already bad situation.

When The Guardian visited the school last week, over 20 classrooms are without roof, just as empty plastic bottles and empty sachets of water jostled for space.

Some of the residents who spoke to The Guardian said they have on several occasions written letters informing the state government about deplorable state of the school, and the need to rehabilitate it, but without any positive response.

They said because of the ugly condition of the school, most of them had to relocate their children to other schools, adding that only indigent students still attend the school.

One of the residents Mr. Edwin Mathew, said parents of the pupils have raised the issue of renovation on several occasions with the school management during Parents Teacher Association (PTA) meeting, but nobody is saying anything about it.

Mathew said: “This school has been in this form for a very long time and nobody is saying anything about it. We have written letters to government but there have been no responses. We feel government has forgotten this school, and some parents have taken their children to private schools. Only a few parents still bring their children to this school because the school has been abandoned.

“I want to use this opportunity to beg the state government to come to our aid because our children are our investment so, we would not like to play with their future.”

A parent, Mrs. Kafayat Dada, said she personally wrote several letters, but when nobody responded, she visited the Ministry of Education in Alausa to inform them of condition of the school, but nothing has been done till date.

Dada said: “I have been to places to find out why the school has been abandoned, along with other parents because we suspected that government must have awarded contract for the rehabilitation of the school buildings. We found out that the contract has not been awarded, but I want to use this opportunity to ask Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, to come and rehabilitate the school for our children. We are not happy with the terrible condition of the school because it is an eyesore. Our children have right to school in a conducive environment like other children in the state.”

Secretary, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board Oshodi/Isolo Local Council, Lekan Alausa Adekoya, explained that it was rainstorm that removed the roofs of the buildings in September 2014, and ever since the school management has written several letters to the state government, through the State Primary Education Board (SPEB), to rehabilitate the school, but nothing has been done.

He called on the state government to take the school building as a priority project, and rehabilitate it. He said: “As you can see, it is an eyesore and we do not like the situation. I feel one day it would be the turn of the school to be renovated because I believe government has not forgotten the school.

“One non-governmental organisation promised that it would rehabilitate the school for us in 2016, but because of the economic recession, the group apologised it would no longer happen. It is a project that would take millions of naira, so, there is nothing we can do on our own other than to write letters to government, which we did on several occasions. I know very soon by God’s grace something would be done because it is a public school and the children have right to stay and learn in a conducive environment.
“We try our best to see that the situation of the school does not affect the learning process. We thank God that we are in dry season because whenever it rains, the learning process is affected because of the open roof.

“Government should intervene in this matter. I know that government has other projects to handle, but it should make this school a priority project.”

Responding to the use of the school by miscreants and hoodlums for binging, he said, “We have arrested some of them before with the help of the police. We discovered that it was some children of some landlords in the area, including some tenants and traders in Oshodi market that litter the school environment.”

Re: Bloomberg Compares Nigeria 2014 And 2018-hard Data by EagleNest(m): 5:42am On May 16, 2019
And Buhari Boys from Mars will as usual come and defend him with their twists and spins, as if we are all morons.

We don't need Bloomberg statistics to know that things are no longer at ease in current Nigeria.

Soon Nigeria will fall apart if we don't change our ways. It is better we restructure Nigeria and also restructure the way we do things, and our value system. Total overhaul!

What we've been doing till now is not sustainable and never will!

Your opinion even though flawed and myopic. Nigeria is doing way way better and we've achieved more and scored better performance in the last 4 years with less.

I was actually expecting you to show us the so called performance and realities on the ground in 2014 like power, health, roads, bridges and things that really mattered to Nigerians.

So you think Nigerians are doing better.

Only a mad person will counter this.
You & Bloomberg are talking trash!
Why 2014? Why didn't they compare the data right before Ebelemi handed over which is May 2015 to where he met it in 2011 & where it is now?
They won't cuz they know GDP growth was left at just 2.35% in May 2015 as against the 7.68 that Ebelemi met it
They won't tell you because just before hand over in May 2015, FDI & foreign reserves were plunged (they're higher now than where Buhari met it). Why didn't they also tell you what oil prices (which your economy is practically based on) was from 2011 to 2015 & that it plunged to just $29/barrel within Buhari first 6 months?
