Dude, i hate LIARS that is my problem with you.
Were the pictures you posted from any of the estates that you later listed? = NO!

Perhaps i went too far to say Ugwuanyi had Never developed any estate, but he had not performed as much as the expected level of a typical Governor of Enugu State would. Even WTC has less than 10 one-storey buildings which isn't even up to Loma Linda estates. Yet, we always rated and thought Chimaroke was the worst in promoting new estates.

Lol chimaroke is the worst, the only reason we rate ugwanyi low is because we witnessed Sullivan before him

If I talk now, they will say I'm a hater.

We Igbos keep having this notion that Enugu is the best thing after friend rice and while I don't think Enugu is had, we need to do better by making Enugu more than just a beautiful mini city. I was in Akure just a few days ago and it had a lot of resemblance with Enugu and I wonder why I don't see people praising Akure to high heavens. Enugu governors should take the bull by the horn and strive to make Enugu compete with cities like Porthacourt while still maintaining the serenity that it currently has. I think the development of Enugu should begin from the Enugu- Porthacourt expressway.

Wasn't this when Chime was governor? It was just uploaded on youtube yesterday and i thought it was a new proposal, not until i clicked on it and saw Sullivan Chime. When people say Ugwuanyi is slack and doesn't show that boldness, zest and zeal in governance like say Umahi and Chime does/did, this is what they mean! No surprises that plans for this industrial park died with the end of the Chime admin'!

I've no idea why you're celebrating what was a white elephant project --an idea that never saw the light of day. Everyone can dream of grand, multimillion dollar ideas, but what are the practicalities?---that is the question. All the images in the video are not from Enugu. I think you're quite impressionable if I'm honest.

You must be an Ugwuanyi otimpku!

People like you with your defeatist and 'safe approach' to governance are certainly who we don't need holding elective and appointive offices in our states!

Yes, some of the images were not of Enugu....so what? We're talking of having an EPZ in Enugu...a zone with it's own independent power supply, and other facilities that would take advantage of AIIA Enugus' int'l status and attract industries and footfall to grow the Enugu economy and make it a world player, yet visionless peeps like you and Ugwuanyi want to play safe and tell me it's all 'pie-in-the-sky'!

Someone with the visionary and bold mindset of Dr M I Okpara (despite the limitations placed on us by the present Nigerian political-economy) would have got this off the ground! I see that mindset in the likes of Umahi and Chime to some extent!

If one doesn't agree with your point of view, then he must be an Ugwuanyi otimkpu -- typical one track thinking.

It's not the truth you want to hear but Enugu with an annual budget of 100 billion naira cannot afford to fund this grandiose project, whose feasibility is, at best, uncertain. I say this with hesitation because the Tinapa project -a grand project of a similar nature--fell flat on its face, and although we can certainly do things differently, the project's feasibility remains in question.

Now you'll say, like Kevin Costner "Build it and they will come" but may I remind you this is a costly project, not a baseball pitch. Sounds like a lot of money to leave to fate and good weather, and God's mercies as we say in these parts.

My friend, in an ideal world where there is a limitless supply of funds, I'll be on the same page as you, but if this project means paying less attention to health, education, infrastructure --sectors which by the way are already down in the dumps, then we need to think again. That or invite the Chinese to offer us their Greek gift that's becoming quite popular across Africa, only that our children will pay the price of our misadventures--but we can probably live with that, can't we.

Xander85, I don't think Sullivan did any capital intensive projects...perhaps you may want to enlighten me about them because I need it.

To my way of thinking, he gave Enugu an unprecedented facelift, earning the praises of millions of both passers-by and residents.

That's why I'd always eulogize Chimaroke, regardless of what anyone thinks of him. Evidently, he embarked on lots of daring projects, similar to what Umahi and Rochas are doing.

Keep in mind that Chimaroke never had a lot of money like the Sullivan administration, given the price of crude oil in his time, but he embarked on huge projects that redefined Enugu, thus creating jobs for the locals.

As for Ugwuanyi, that man has been a colossal failure so far.
But we all hope for the best, and I strongly believe he will up his game in this last lap.

If you dare mention Rochas Okoroawusa again here as a performer I will post the current pictures i got from Owerri yesterday. Rochas actually underdeveloped Imo state. Almost all the roads in Owerri are in a mess and everywhere overflowing with filth, most part of Imo state are like that too. People like you have not visited home in a long time. The few roads Okorocha did are in shambles already because they were poorly done. Visit Imo state today and stone okorocha tomorrow morning.

FG Moves to Downgrade Enugu Airport over Safety Concerns

Enugu State Government takes steps to rectify anomalies

The federal government has announced that it would downgrade the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, for not meeting required safety standards for international operations.

By this development, Ethiopia Airlines will stop operations to the airport.

Minister of State, Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika disclosed this yesterday during the sixth stakeholders meeting in Lagos.

The minister said aside that the infrastructure at the airport did not meet given safety standards, from the dilapidated runway to absence of approach light and lack of enough water for fire cover, the location of an abattoir close to the airport, attracts birds to the airport.

He recalled that Air Peace flight, last week suffered bird strike but luckily the incident was effectively managed.

Sirika also pointed out that there were things the Governor of the State was expected to do so that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria. (FAAN) would provide critical infrastructure like the approach light which would enable flights to land in the night.

According to the minister, the governor has agreed to clear buildings at the flight path, relocate the market at Emene for broader approach, remove the masts that obstruct flight path and also allow FAAN to have access to the Ekulu River to use pipes to bring water to the airport.

At present, flights cannot operate at night because the airport does not have approach light, which ought to be installed at the two ends of the runway.

The airport also does not have enough water supply, which means that it may not service large body aircraft because it does not have adequate fire cover, as certain volumes of water are needed for the fire hydrants in case of emergency.

THISDAY gathered that at several meetings with the Enugu state government, FAAN had urged the state to clear the flight paths along the runway by relocating the residents along the flight area so that critical facilities can be installed to enable flights land at the airport at night and also remove hindrances on take-off and landing of flights.

Also, Sirika had met with the state government and stressed the need for the government to relocate the market at Emene Enugu, settle the residents that built structures on the flight path so that approach light could be installed at both ends of the runway.

Sirika also urged the governor to give approval to FAAN and also to provide the facilities that could support FAAN to pipe water from Ekulu River for the airport so that it would have adequate water cover. The state government was also asked to remove two masts on approach area to the airport to enable flights easily take off and land at the airport.

The Governor of the State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi during the courtesy visit by the Minister last year, had assured the minister that urgent action would be taken, but nothing was done till now.

Enugu State Govt Takes Steps to Rectify Anomalies

Following the safety concerns raised by Sirika and the FAAN, the Enugu State Government issued a press statement last night, detailing steps it had taken to address all the issues raised.

The statement read: “The Enugu State Executive Council has approved the immediate closure of Orie Emene Market (abattoir inclusive) to forestall tragic air accident at the Airport. Accordingly, the Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area has been directed to effect the immediate closure of the market.

“Council also ordered immediate removal of all illegal structures encroaching on the land of the Airport. The State Executive Council had on 12th October, 2018 approved funds for relocation of the State Broadcast Mast on the approach of the Run Way to Okpatu Hill (Ugwu Rerenkwu) in Udi Local Government Area but the implementation of this project has been hampered by the disruptive activities of some youths in the community. Enugu State Government hereby directs immediate cessation of all hostilities against the project as any further interference will attract the full wrath of the law given that government has paid all the necessary compensation.

“The traditional rulers of Okaptu Communities and town union leadership are hereby called upon to ensure full compliance with the above directives.”
