And how has this brought down prices of goods, instead of prices of items coming down, they keep going up with all the exchange rate stability ,we play to the gallery in this country all we do is talk, talks, write all the theories that exist in the world yet things keep getting worse, until we are ready to take practical step, by shutting our doors to importation and bring manufacturing back to life, declare state of emergency on power, stop importation of fuel and fix our refineries, this country will never experience and meaningful process,we know the right things to do,but because we are highly corrupt and blinded by it,we expect God to come down from HEAVEN and fix Nigeria, what a joke of a country |

jaxxy:Yes we had... Government deliberately gave waivers to some people to import and in the long run to build specific capacity but most of the companies blew the chance. Such as the case of Wempco |

If CBN is ready to fight this, they should increase the Card use limit internationally, Most people overseas who wants to make use of their funds in their Nigeria banks abroad have to rely on the Nigerian black market abroad to get foreign currency instead of just using their ATM to draw cash like every other countries. We are not the most corrupt and I see no reason why one should not be allowed to spend what they have in their bank account irrespective of where they live until they are found wanting for a crime. We cannot all bear the burden of a few miscreants just because we have a president who thinks we are luxurious in spending. All these inflation talk will die a natural death if CBN removes the complete restriction on using your card abroad and allow Disaporans access their funds abroad. |

I have been suspecting some trouble. With inflation at 11% or more a year since 2017 and with a loose fiscal policy, it was only a matter of time the currency devalues in order to stay competitive. Two steps government can take now to reduce pressure is to merge the multiple exchange rates into one and deregulate the price of petrol. |

$36 billion dollars that could have been spent on improving power and generating MW of electricity that will boost local production and reduce importation. |

wirinet:Good point. But with the Dangote refinery on board, the fuels and agro chemicals importation will nearly ceased. Are we importing bitumen? That will be silly. Even asphalt. We have no reason to be importing other items on ur list |

wirinet: Thank you Bros for an excellent comment. I laugh when i see Nigerians foolishly quoting IMF / World Bank about "floating the currency " If Naira is floated and it becomes 2000 Naira/$.... YOU and I and the dumbos wouldn't be safe from cannibals. White folks who say we should float, say so from a safe distance. If Nigeria crashes as a result, will they offer apologies? What would SORRY even do then ? Yes defending the Naira isn't sustainable long-term, but we have to defend it until we can figure out working mitigating measures |

Why will u have marginal increase when u have a stable exchange rate? If ur economy is productive u be ill not have the marginal increase u talked about, I have listed my own solution to problem, if the CBN like let them pump all the dollars in their vault into the market it will not solve anything |

Mosesm:Akeredolu: Nigeria spends N300b on bitumen import yearly - https://www.google.com/amp/s/thenationonlineng.net/akeredolu-nigeria-spends-n300b-bitumen-import-yearly/amp/ If we don't import steel, how do we construct our structures, bridges and road, when only a very minute amount is being produced by Chinese companies? Furthermore we have to import 100% steel, aluminium and copper sheets, as ajaokuta is just a bottomless pit, that shallows billions of dollars periodically. As fela would say "Rice matter, na different matter" the government placed a ban on imported rice, but most of the rice we consume is smuggled through Benin Republic, which still consumes an insane amount of dollars. Where do you want producers of fruit juice to get the concentrates required for production, even when more than 60% of harvested fruits rot before getting from farm to consumers? South Africa of course, with the use of more dollars. And so on, and so on........ |

eddiebruk:You can take out if you bring in. If you have a domicilary account funded with dollars which you brought in, you can take it out any time you want. I know because I do. MTN was making money in Nigeria and shipping it out without due diligence. Stop looking for excuses. Make dollars and spend it as you please. |
