Between Pharmacy and Medical Lab Science. Which one would you recommend Hi nairalanders, Please i did this year UTME and had 265 but I'm confused on which course to study between medical lab science and pharmacy, i picked Uniben P. S I'm not really a lover of maths Mods please help me move this to frontpage 1 Like |

Pharmacy duration can be 6 or 5 years (B.pharm and pharmD )depending on the institution while MLS is 5 year ( Doc MLS is still in progress). Pharmacy is a professional course that deals with drugs dispense , medications, counsel patients on the use of prescription and over-the-counter medications, and advise physicians about medication therapy. After being licensed by PCN, you can be a Community Pharmacy, Clinical pharmacy, Industrial Pharmacy, research scientists. Medical Laboratory Science is a profession that uses chemical, hematological, immunologic, histopathological, cytopathological, microscopic, and bacteriological diagnostic analyses on body fluids such as blood, urine, sputum, stool, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), peritoneal fluid, pericardial fluid, and synovial fluid, as well as other specimens, to aid physicians in making decisions. They work as Clinical Scientists in hospitals, private laboratories, research scientists, Biotechnologist, quality Control officer . In terms of government employment, MLS are employed more than pharm. But in terms of private practice, a business oriented individual can get more in pharmacy compared to MLS. 52 Likes 5 Shares |

I am a scientist though..to be sincere pharmacy will be better for you..scientists are underestimated here and limited too...with pharmacy you can employ your self gainfully easily same with the laboratory though....but here in Nigeria we take drugs first before we look for the cause of our ill health..good luck brother 10 Likes |

Go for the one your that heart wants, but since u you said u don't really love maths then maybe MLS is for u. And your utme Score is not really good enough for neither MLS nor Pharmacy in UNIBEN, u will need to score very high score in post UTME most especially if u are not catchment or northern Nigeria. Finally, Uniben is offering Doctor of Pharmacy, but it seems MLS is more competitive in UNIBEN than pharmacy. |
