So it's now the function of fg to build paper manufacturing industry.. You are mentally bankrupt
So tell me whose duty it's to provide? Mr sabi sabi. Mr government spokes man. If the the FG which comprises of all the arms of government cannot provide a better alternative. The law should be kept aside for now. How many paper manufacturing company do we have in Nigeria that can meet our daily demand. And for your information do you know the implications of that as well? I guess you dont know. There will be more deforestation. Because these papers will have to be produce. The solution its simple. Let the ministry of environment design a better recycling method of disposing these nylon.

Clearly I hope your not an afonja Savage tongue with low IQ this development is highly welcome as it benefits the environment, afonjas I thought believe to least have good knowledge, I guessed wrong.

But for some with 20th century thinking it won't bother you, we need to start building a country with better standard of living for futuregenerations to come.

So stop being a afonja savagetongue and learn to embrace good change.

We can't survive without the environment so protecting is a priority.

So you protect the environment by placing a ban on an essential item like the nylon, that its needed on a daily basis by both the rich and poor without alternative. Let me ask you. What would you use to produce the paper bag? So you didn't consider deforestation i gues Mr protector. Pls Let's have a better law to regulate the disposal and recycling of nylon and other plastics not a ban pls

Ecobank Nigeria is actually giving cash when you drop plastic bottles at some of their branches in Lagos. I'm going to try to find the details of this but below are some pictures.

Ecobank pays 30 Naira per Kg and if you know what 1 kg of plastic is you will know it will take 1 tonne to get 30k .

Lylon bags have become a menace actually bt that’s why we shud have alternatives, waste recycling companies and better waste disposal laws that protect the environment.

Seems no more pure water. Probably use dispensers or bottle water.
How many people can afford 70k dispenser

Dis is coming from a country dat d govt can't boast of any single waste management initiative or alternative. A country where d common man/masses can only access portable water via satchet bags (pure water).

We have to start from somewhere, one step at a time.

How would Pure Water be packaged in paper?

Pure water is responsible for one of the biggest environmental problem we face today, everywhere is littered with pure water sachets, roadsides and drainages.

They are contradicting themselves.

A retailer must not fail to provide a customer with paper bag at point of sale.

Too slow, they should be passing 30 to 40 laws a day or week of this type of laws, and putting more efforts in drastically doing their part in bring nigeria to 50000mw of electricity. Not with desperation but with a speed of necessity.

No time for dragging feet, na stay the course change na im we need. Serious national beneficial change.

As for me, I think a naija elected leader should earn up to $50,000 a year minimum with the highest earning $1,000,000 a year.
The current thing is they earn $100,000 to $1,000,000 a month or even a week. That sometimes does not include occasional give away contracts that shortened and deprive people of quality results of the project.

It's worked in Kenya and should work here.

Plastics, plastic bags and empty pure water sachets are the primary cause of blocked drains. That is what I've noticed.

The ban will be helpful.

learned something new on nairaland for the first time! had to look up the word "proscribe", although i made the correct guess based on the context it was used in this case. however to make this stick i could only associate it with the word "prescribe" albeit an antithesis...somewhat.

Before pure water we were drinking water, if there's no more pure water we will still drunk water,... This is the way to go, smart entrepreneurs should see a business opportunity here to go into paper bags production. Like many other things use of paper bag has been found to have negative effects on the environment and many countries are now banning their use

The House of Representatives on Tuesday, passed a bill prohibiting the use of plastic bags by individuals and manufacturing companies in the country.

Igbere TV reports that the bill, which was sponsored by Hon. Edward Pwajok, is aimed at addressing waste management and protecting the environment.

The Plastic bag prohibition bill provides for: “an act to prohibit the use, manufacture and importation of all plastic bags used for commercial and household packaging in order to address harmful impacts to oceans, rivers, lakes, forests, environment as well as human beings and also to relieve pressure on landfills and waste management and for other related matters.”

According to the bill, any person found guilty of the offences above shall be liable upon conviction to a fine not exceeding N500,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years or to both such fine and imprisonment.

It also prescribes a fine of N5 million to companies guilty of the aforementioned offences.

The bill states that a retailer shall offer a paper bag to the customer at a point of sale.

It also added that it was an offence to fail to provide customers with paper bags.

The bill emphasised that manufacturing plastic bags for the purpose of selling, and importing plastic bags whether as a carryout bag or for sale amounts to an offence.

Pure water now loading in paper pack. Just watching this clueless and inconsiderate law makers...

Instead of encouraging local or foreign investors to invest in the production of paper bags...and run the pivot scheme over a period of time. During this time run commercials and involve the public in educating them about using this items. That's the implications to our environment. Instead, they go by fire by force.

This is an ethical and moral issues. It shouldn't be force on the people...but rather encouraged.

Just watching sha! Even the paper bags that will be in circulation, I'm sure will be way down below standard(ie not strong enough to hold a kilo or so without breaking). Who is going to check this? How would the consumers be protected for damages course by this act of inferior bags....for their damaged goods purchased.

This is a welcome development BUT can they please stop with all the banning and fining? Its better to reward than to punish.Besides, you guys cannot even implement the punishment. Why not develope a system of rewarding those who use paper bags instead of plastic?Either way I'm happy someone is beginning to notice the plastic crises upon us.

This is long overdue.

Have you been to Bariga or some parts of Akoka? You need to see the disaster nylon bags are causing. Or just come to Mushin during the rainy season.

It should be banned abeg. I just hope the government will stick to fining companies producing it with huge amounts of money.
Recycling is the best solution. It will create employment opportunities, improve the IGR of states through taxation of the recycling companies, improve the Nigerian economy and make our environment greener but our reps knows what to do but are chasing shadows.Banning nylon bags isn't the best idea rather exploiting the gain from the waste.
