As part of his administration's commitment to the protection of lives and properties of road users from unwarranted Road accidents, the Ondo State governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has commissioned a new Computerised Vehicle Inspection Center.

The new computerised Vehicle Inspection Center is a more reliable and dependable scientific based center, using the best scientific and technical analysis for the issuance of Road Worthy Certificates for vehicles on the state road.

The new center is replacing the draconic old order of examining and inspecting vehicles by the VIO with their intuition and guess work.

Akeredolu's decision to introduce technology to determine the worthiness of all kinds of vehicles plying roads across the state is to ensure their reliability and safety of lives and properties.

Speaking during the Commissioning of the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre in Akure on Friday, Governor Akeredolu said the safety of lives and properties of road users in the Sunshine State are paramount to his government.

The governor, who made it clear that the computerised vehicle inspection centre was meant to serve all classes of owners of vehicles, including private, corporate, commercial, government, traditional and religious leaders at all levels, added that all the vehicles would be subjected to the same tests as required by experts.

He said: "Nobody will be allowed to peddle influence. No official will be allowed to compromise the process. Our roads must be made safe for our people."

On other benefits derivable from the facility, Akeredolu said: 'Technology and scientific-based evaluation and analysis of matters are always more accurate and more reliable.

"They produce faultless results based on objective parameters set for the purpose of evaluation.

"Human judgement are prone to subjective considerations. Technology is immune to extraneous influence.

"Machines or computers are not likely to be susceptible to negative manipulations or influence by nature, socio-economic, political or environmental factors."

The governor, however, allayed the likely fear of artisans in the state, especially, mechanics, electricians and other related experts that the project was designed to render them jobless.

He said: "The project is not designed to render you jobless and idle. It will rather enhance the practice of your professions as the various centres across the state shall serve as referral centres to all certified mechanical and auto-electrical workshops.

This is beautiful and very impressive, infact, it is welcoming, and I hope it stays there many more years with proper maintenance. This should at least increase the revenue of the state to a reasonable extent and if properly used, it would directly or indirectly reduce the chances of accidents that are caused by unworthy cars on our roads....

This is a welcome development but the issue on ground is how do you give a sound vehicle to a weed smoking driver, the nexus between these two is contradicting..
