Sterope:Things like this will always happen when people are faced with issues such as estimated billing by the power companies. In my flat I have a TV, fan and light bulbs, I leave the house in the morning and come back in the night. I sleep in the dark for Approx 20 days in a month. The electricity company brings a bill of 15,000 at the end of the month, I feel pissed and dissatisfied by their service. I decide to tell them to give me a digital meter and I eventually discovered that #2,000 worth of electricity is what I consume in a month. I think this makes sense. When the electricity company is ripping you off and you fight back, you have chaos ![]() |

Good for them! Share pre paid meter, na lie. They (NEPA) staff go about discouraging people from getting it. That even scare people that they'll pay more with prepaid meters just because they want to keep moving around and harrasing people with their ladders and pliers in the name of disconnection |

That community should kiss electricity supply goodbye for the next 3years. Now, the rest of the community will pay for the foolishness of the few members. ![]() |

Nukilia:amen.. And I wish the same for ur entire households in Jesus name.. One needs everything to survive in that country.. Ignorant people only support mediocrity or half baked leaders.. I'm enlightened enough to understand the rudiments of governance and I know it requires pro activity, vision and will power.. Basic amenities aren't luxury but rights... Just like the senators alluded that there regular car gifts and bogus incredulous salaries are justified.. |

Livefreeordieha:It takes an intelligent and smart person to understand your perspective. Nigeria is a country where people have suffered and they see the suffering as normal. The people do not only support mediocrity and incompetent leaders, they provide justifiable reasons why such incompetent leaders should continue to plunder the nations resources. Nigerians need help... |

wirinet:Here a large part of the blame has to be placed on Nigeria's legal system. It is expensive to hire lawyers to prosecute power thieves on an individual basis, and Nigeria's legal system lacks the speed, efficiency and reliability required for a more automated approach, so what other option is left for the DISCOs, seeing as so many people have no qualms physically bypassing any measures put in place for remote disconnection of delinquent customers. |

tactius:Telecommunications services isn't cheap either. But Nigerian people gladly pay for it. You know why? They see what they are paying for. If you say 24hrs power supply is 20k per month, metering will give you the option of having to spend 5k per month as your pocket can carry. Nobody is say power is cheap, give them the power first, then the options from the meter will make them regulate their expenses. |

| Re: Residents Pull Electricity Official Off Ladder, Leaves Colleague Hanging On Pole by Nobody: 9:24am On May 27, 2019 |
Ifebazz:In the begining, we did not see any good thing from the telecom sector. Service was poor. You could not call other service providers. Internet was very bad, you could not call NITEL land lines either, and then there were missed calls, etc. But because Obasanjo allowed them to charge the prices they wanted...they made enough money to make things much better. Since we privatised power, government has been controlling prices. Many Nigerians...not all, but a good number don't pay. Many bypass meters when they get them, and government agencies also owe. Yet somehow we exepct DISCOS to improve when we ain't givng them enough money to make the improvements. You cannot pay N200 and expect N200000 serivce. |

tactius:What exactly is your argument? That Nigerians (including you) are getting the worth of power they are paying for? Or that they should pay before being served the said amount? |

junkiesneverdie:Bros those Nepa guys are criminals, you will be shock to know that whenever they are about to come cut off people's wire, some few day to that they will live the power supply on, probably for like 2 day. Nigeria is doomed |

tactius:Is that proper? Is that the right business etiquette you would encourage anyone going into business to practice? Is that what you do in your own business line? |
| Re: Residents Pull Electricity Official Off Ladder, Leaves Colleague Hanging On Pole by Ifebazz(m): 9:54am On May 27, 2019 |
Didi2d:That is their basic practice. They just fix the light to last some hours prior to billing and disconnection. Yahoo nor too pass this one sha. Na only the 'plus' never enter. |

tactius:You're not correct, have you paid both estimated and pre paid so you can feel the difference. Estimated bill has been a thorn in the flesh of Nigerians. Till early last year in my rented apartment, we used to received bill of 7k monthly on average; meanwhile we are just two tenants in the compound. So towards the middle of last year our Pre paid meter was ready two years after been proccessed, I can tell you convincingly that we've been relief greatly since then. We've never recharge more than 2k at a go and it serve us up to 8 weeks on average, imagin the difference. In fact, our card have never finished for once before we get it recharged because it so convinient; my co tenant bring 1k and I add 1k to be 2k and we think of contributing again after seventh weeks. We could have received bill of nothing less that 14k in 8 weeks instead of just 2k we are recharging. Estimated bill is one of the major problems confronting Nigerians, it is a means of reaping Nigerians from their hard earn incomes. It is a big scam. |

| Re: Residents Pull Electricity Official Off Ladder, Leaves Colleague Hanging On Pole by Nobody: 12:01pm On May 27, 2019 |
youngsahito:And of everybody had prepaid meters, some will be bypassed. Anyway, my local disco is metering everyone now |
| Re: Residents Pull Electricity Official Off Ladder, Leaves Colleague Hanging On Pole by youngsahito(m): 12:10pm On May 27, 2019 |
tactius:prepaid meters is part of the solution to Nigeria interrupted power supply |
| Re: Residents Pull Electricity Official Off Ladder, Leaves Colleague Hanging On Pole by wirinet(m): 12:36pm On May 27, 2019 |
tactius:Whether everyone is metered or not, those that will bypass will always bypass. The estimated billing is just billing the law abiding citizens for the sins of criminals. Power thieves will steal power whether metered or not. Some have extra wires to reconnect every time NEPA officials cut their wires. |

INTEGRITYA1:1.I have paid estimated bill. 11000 for a one bedroom flat monthly till 2017. 2.I now use a.meter where I live. 5000 a month |
| Re: Residents Pull Electricity Official Off Ladder, Leaves Colleague Hanging On Pole by INTEGRITYA1(m): 1:11pm On May 27, 2019 |
tactius:That's different of #6,000 monthly to your benefits, so what are we now saying. How nice could it be; if all the 6,000 excess you've paid till 2017 should be returned to you? |
| Re: Residents Pull Electricity Official Off Ladder, Leaves Colleague Hanging On Pole by Nobody: 1:14pm On May 27, 2019 |
INTEGRITYA1:And the reason why my estimated bills were high is because people bypass meters. So pressure gets put on us legitimate payers |
| Re: Residents Pull Electricity Official Off Ladder, Leaves Colleague Hanging On Pole by INTEGRITYA1(m): 1:40pm On May 27, 2019 |
tactius:I don't agree with you that; bypass should be the reason behind your 6k monthly excessive charges. Bypass is a dubious and serious offence. If bypass was so rampact in your area, then what are the measures been taken by electric power officials to curb it? To the best of my knowledge if you should bypass that can be easily detected and the perpetrators will be arrested and dealt with accordingly. If your claimed of 6k excessive charges was truly due to bypass by other fellows, then there is a negligence in the side of those at the helm of affairs and you've been forced to pay for it. That's very bad Your 6,000 monthly excessive charges is #72,000 in one year and if you should pay it like that for 5 years, that will be #360,000 and also in 10 years is #720,000. That's what an average Nigerians has been surferring in the face of estimated bills. Let call a spade a spade, estimated bill is a fraud. |
| Re: Residents Pull Electricity Official Off Ladder, Leaves Colleague Hanging On Pole by wirinet(m): 1:47pm On May 27, 2019 |
tactius:That's why there are no incentives to go after defaulters and bypassers, they put the burden on those who want to do the right thing. In Nigeria, officials prefer to harass soft targets or law abiding citizens, but remain oblivious to criminals. Only in Nigeria will you see police stop law abiding citizen and search his bags and phones at a notorious bus stop, with agberos (thugs) beating conductors and harassing passerby in full glare. |
