The truth is that most people are just paying the NEPA bill just to keep their wire on the pole.

Lol. Either they are living in face me I face you where you pay 700 naira estimated bill or he is still under his parents paying power bills so he doesn't know anything. The only way out of this is prepaid metres. AEDC in Abuja sent emails and text messages to us last month that they only got 20MW from transmission companies. And that was the reason why supply dropped. Guess what, I got a bill of 21,000 naira. How does that match when I never got up to 96 hours in total that same month?

IKEDC don even warn us via SMS. If we ever molest their staffs, it will be till further notice. This angry resident will be arrested and prosecuted, because these NEPA guys are only following orders.

A wise man.

He is not,
The countries he mentioned are paying for power supply because they are seeing and using it. Unlike Nigeria a community that has not use power for over a month will still be charged and when you refused to pay this nepa guys will cut your wire, and you expect the people to be happy.
I repeat, he is not wise

Most nigerians don't pay their light bills but they will still be ones to condemn and criticize phcn officials when they don't give them electricity. Nothing in life is free people. The Ghana, ivory Coast, Niger republic, that their citizens enjoy stable electricity supply do pay for it. Just look at how this one is fighting an official over what he is supposed to pay.

If you don't want to use PHCN electricity, go get yourself a solar panel and if you can't afford one, buy a generator.

They should
Provide the light first ! Before payment can you pay for what you don’t see or enjoy ?

The govt. should start afresh with this electricity things. First, build reliable power stations; second, connect the lines to all those transformers they have been buying and buy more; third, computerize and sectionalize the power for troubleshooting purposes and disconnection purposes, so that when you want to cut off a customer it will be easy to.

We don't plan anything properly in this country.

You are ill-informed. Go and cross check your facts. Virtually every household or building in these countries you mentioned are billed through prepaid meter and other accurate billing system, which reverse is the case here in Nigeria.

I'm not in support of the guy fighting the IKEDC electrician but the outrageous bill given to non metered house could make someone to be mad. Imagine two flat in my compound, each flat get bill of average 10,000 per month. I leave my house in the morning come back in the night. My wife also goes to work. The bill is frustrating, there was a month I paid 18k for epileptic power supply. Have applied for meter, nothing was done. Don't blame the guy .

No. PHCN and distribution companies should give everybody prepaid metres. Without the prepaid metres, distribution companies will never get the full money for power being supplied. That is one of the reasons they bring inflated estimated bills of 20k when total number of hours you consumed power in a month isn't up to 72 hours.

The same meters end up being bypassed because most of you love stealing, because you want electricity for free.

More than 60% of all prepaid meters are bypassed or tampered with.

What happens to prepaid meter? Once your unit expires it goes off then you can stay in darkness as much as you want. Now if you tamper with it and you are caught then you will be charged to court. In the countries you mentioned do Electric companies go from house to house to disconnect people like we have here?

Frustration is very much alive and well in Nigeria all thanks to the clueless grandpa who has nothing upstairs to offer yet refuses to leave the stage.

A wise comment.

The problem is, Nigerians want to pay 2000 for something that actually costs 500000 naira.

But honestly, discos should meter every one too.
