Most nigerians don't pay their light bills but they will still be ones to condemn and criticize phcn officials when they don't give them electricity. Nothing in life is free people. The Ghana, ivory Coast, Niger republic, that their citizens enjoy stable electricity supply do pay for it. Just look at how this one is fighting an official over what he is supposed to pay.

If you don't want to use PHCN electricity, go get yourself a solar panel and if you can't afford one, buy a generator.
guy the issue is clear give people the new meter let everybody go and buy card there would not be this nonsense I hate when people support mediocrity the PHCN had failed us

Lol. Either they are living in face me I face you where you pay 700 naira estimated bill or he is still under his parents paying power bills so he doesn't know anything. The only way out of this is prepaid metres. AEDC in Abuja sent emails and text messages to us last month that they only got 20MW from transmission companies. And that was the reason why supply dropped. Guess what, I got a bill of 21,000 naira. How does that match when I never got up to 96 hours in total that same month?
There is a way to address that. Please find out how you can fight it out

simply providing everyone with prepaid metres would stop all this nonsense. But the authorities don't want to because they make a lot of money giving estimated bills.

Pls just shut up. So that is a reason why they should bill us anyhow. We have laws and mechanisms in this country to catch and prosecute those who bypass prepaid meters.

If prepaid meters are not provided in Nigeria the type of uprising that happened in Ilesa,Osun State about 3 months ago will be a childs play. Go and ask what happened there when the people revolted against IBEDC.

This exploitation and daylight robbery must stop now.

We need prepaid meters FULLSTOP.

I am tired commenting about Nigeria numerous and diverse problem. The government are just dumb and deaf to many bad situation in the country and things are getting decay day by day as people are waking up putting justice to any injustice coming on their way. Government please wake up. When things turn in this direction it leads to unrest, unrest results to uncontrollable crisis which might be eventually leads to revolution.

So,

Why don't they provide Consumers with Prepaid Meters like all these nations you mentioned and see if everyone will no pay their Light Bills.. shocked

Would this situation have arise if the Electricity Companies and the Government did the needful?

Why would anybody be eager to pay for electricity that he knows he has not been provided for in the first instance?

You are right. The massive bypassing of prepaid meters is the reason the estimated bills are high. PHCN reads the total energy consumed from the feeder serving an area. They subtract the total recharge by prepaid users (which is usually low because they are bypassing). The balance is shared among the estimated bill users. If you suspect that your friendly neighbors are bypassing their prepaid meters, you should report them to the DISCO. Otherwise you will be paying part of their bill. The telltale sign that someone is bypassing: If they use air conditioners and other energy guzzling equipment and yet brag about having to recharge only 2000 or 3000 Naira a month, they have obviously tampered with their prepaid meters and are shifting their bills to their estimated bill neighbors.

PHNC, ikejaElectric increased their billing rate since January and customers have been getting crazy bills without power to show for it and with the hardship Nigerians are facing, YOU STILL EXPECTS CUSTOMERS NOT TO BE ANGRY WITH THEM huh?

People are already bypassing pre-paid meter. Ikedc boss confirmed about 50% of the prepaid meters have been bypassed. This is to tell you that Nigerians are just too difficult to understand. Our problem goes beyond pre-paid meter. An average Nigerian is below the poverty limit. I pray it doesn't get worse.

Ghana has 24/7 hrs power supply their rate billing is ₦20, but here in Nigeria, the highest is 10hrs/day yet the cheappest they charge is ₦21, CORRUPTION IS ALSO PART OF IT.

There are various grievance channels to address when one feels overbilled, not by attacking foot soldiers out to do their honest work. These people don't make the bills, have no say in how bills are prepared. Yet they get attacked for simply carrying out orders.

NERC has provided forum offices to get your complaints addressed if your resident Disco is misbehaving. But people don't want to be educated about means of peaceful conflict resolution, they'd rather vent all their frustration on poor ladder luggers.

As for meter bypass you'd be surprised how many people do it. Just about everyone wants free energy whether or not it's a commercial product, and behave as if it's a birth right. Should we beat MTN staff if service goes out?

As for that idiot ranting about prepaid meters, well they're on sale now. Shell out 37k and go get yours and shut the fug up.

Ghana charges 19.28$ per killowatt hour. That's 6928 naira.

Nigeria charges 8.10 cents IE 0.08 $ per killowatt hour. That's 29 naira.

Ghana is just as poor as we are.

Any questions?

Some of you don't know how prepaid meters work. There is a system put in place when you bypass the meter that will make you eventually pay one day. When next you decide to use your church mind and buy unit for that meter, your debt will be waiting for you in an estimated billed way. If they(AEDC) are very serious about recouping their money, there are chips inside most of these prepaid meters that should be sending notifications to their central server when bypasses are made. They are also lazy in their work and Nigerians are exploiting their laziness.

And you must also be very silly and uncultured for saying most of us love stealing. An idiot like you is one of the main reasons president Buhari said youths are lazy. If your reading comprehension works fine, your God given brain should have told you that I am an estimated billed customer. Do they bring bills for people with prepaid meters? YOU don't know how prepaid meters work.

It's only on a smartgrid where smart meters are deployed that meters send telemetry data on a platform known as TMR (Telemetry Meter Reading) to the server, using PLC (powerline communication) or Internet WAN. I know because I'm working on deploying one for a Disco using the open smart grid IoT platform. Most of the prepaid meters deployed are not smart, so they've no means to report to the mothership.

Without smart meters, bypass discovery is a passive activity.

You lie. Most Nigerians pay their light bills. The problem is when you refuse to provide the light, bring estimated bills simply because you refused to supply pre paid meters and wanting to fleece the consumers of their money for service not rendered.

And because you have a dealing with one disco gives you the godamn right to say i am one of the people stealing power? If you are learned and intelligent as you claim, you wouldn't have been using a fallacy of ambiguous generalization.

But I have a smart meter with a chip card in one of my apartments. So if the distribution companies are finding it difficult to recoup 60% of the distributed power to even prepaid meter owners which shouldn't be, then make your meters smart as simple as ABC.

Smart meters with cards are old tech. Newer ones use a token carrier type (TCT) of the 20 digit numerical based on the STS standard which almost all Discos in Nigeria use. So yes, knowledge of how one Disco works is a great insight into how all work, and i didn't even say my work was restricted to one Disco alone. I did the vending system of one other.

In any case we're fighting the wrong battles: it's not about metering or how they bill, it's about the inefficiencies in their networks to lead to an average supply of 8 hours a day because they refused to upgrade their grids, and a toxic management culture that perfects the act of perfidy in the face of their helplessness.

In most places any time it rains, the supply goes off for hours and even days because of the rot on their networks and the lack of materials for their staff to work with. The money is stolen by the executives and their boards.

They don't have the money to pay the markets, buy meters, and upgrade their networks because:

1. Majority of customers don't pay or underpay

2. A lot of the executives pilfer the little collections there are

And banks won't give them loans because the entire sector is one massive risk bubble.

With the MAP scheme at least consumers can now outrightly purchase meters (even if meter ownership is another contentious area).

So yes i called you an energy thief because you attacked my earlier post with your misplaced indignation.

Your post reeks of exactly the mindset of the criminal demography that loves stealing energy, then come online to bash the Discos with impotent rage.

You hide behind overbilling to mask your crime of energy theft, I'm sure your outstanding debt is close to a million because you're the type that pays 1k because you believe you've some inalienable right to determine your own energy bill.

You're a goddam thief and you ought to be electrocuted on your supply during a rainy day.
